My eeeeyes. My….eyes. This photo of Lady Gaga and Baba Wawa can only mean one thing: nuclear winter It’s time for Barbara Walters’ most fascinating people of the year special! Which also means it’s time for each of us to think, just for a moment, about the definition of “fascinating.”
Per “tradition,” ABC is only announcing nine of the ten MFPs. They are: Lady Gaga, Glenn Beck, Tyler Perry, Kate Gosselin, Brett Favre, Adam Lambert, Sarah Palin, Jenny Sanford, and Prince Michael, Paris, and “Blanket” Jackson, who only count as one person, a la Two and a Half Men. Well, this would certainly be quite the cocktail party. Also, Sarah Palin was on the list last year, too.
Who’s number one? We’ll find out when ABC airs the special on Dec. 9. I’d bet good money on Michelle Obama — President Obama held the number one slot last year, and both Hillary Clinton and Laura Bush were named the most fascinating person while their husbands were in the White House. Who’s your guess, PopWatchers? And what do we make of this list?

I’m surprised Taylor Swift didn’t make the list. Her and Gaga have dominated 2009′s music scene. But I don’t know if a 19-year old country star would take Babwa Wawa’s top spot. I think she should’ve replaced Kate Gosselin, who isn’t fascinating, just annoying.
This. Esp re: Kate.
I so agree with Hanna! Why are we being subjected to Kate Gosselin again? And Lady Gaga broke out in 2007 and again in 2008. How can she still even be considered a break out artist for 2009? Last year Taylor Swift sold the most music out of any other artist. That is news worthy. Not Kate.
How do you get “breakout artist” from “most fascinating people”? Are you sure you’re commenting on the right post?
I cannot abide BW and her facile, idiotic questions. For a woman who’s been around so long and seen so much, very little of it seems to have made an impact. I find her painful to watch.
agreed
I was wondering about Taylor too but they wait until the night that the show airs to say who #1 is so maybe it will be her.
I think #1 has to be our President Obama. He got swore in this year and ground breaking event that was.
Okay, don’t rise up and be hateful for what I’m about to say – but do you think it could be Robert Pattinson? I don’t say that because I’m a fan, but because anyone would have to admit that the phenomena and chaos surrounding him is pretty “fascinating”.
Also, I have no idea why Kate Gosselin’s on this list either. I cannot think of one fascinating thing about her.
Well, her hair is kinda fascinating. But really, the “MFP” should be Kate Gosselin’s Hair, not Kate herself.
most fascinating will be MJ himself
Balloon Boy. Duh.
My guess is Whitney Houston.
Robert Pattinson is a great guess, too.
Michael Jackson’s children should be left alone. If the media spent as much time exposing the untruths behind the destroyed image of this genius of a man as it does the tabloid-like sensational stories that they helped to propagate for many years, he could finally rest in peace. Shame on Barbara. Shame on Oprah. We want the truth.
It’s so wrong to have her interview Mjs kids. Those innocent children have been exploited enough. Besides, that it hasn’t even been 6 months since they lost their father and people are already nagging at them for interviews? The family should have refused. The kids are too fragile.
Margaret, thanks for the Friends reference “My eyes…” Love Phoebe!
I hope it is Michael, and they give him a nice tribute.
I think the one person who had a big year not named who could be the secret number one is Susan Boyle, because this year she went from reality contestant to viral internet sensation to top selling artist. Hope she doesn’t get even more hype than what she has received already.
Yes, true, she was a sensation, but hardly fascinating. Don’t you think? There’s nothing interesting about her, other than that she has a good voice.
she can’t be number one and one of the other nine.
The late MJ’s children, what have they accomplished to be on “the most fascinating” list?
I really don’t understand their inclusion on this list (not to mention the “counting as one person” thing). Please leave them alone, let them mourn, and let them try to lead productive lives.
I don’t know that “most fascinating” requires accomplishment. MJ’s kids are interesting in that people want to know about them. I mean, I’m by no means an MJ fan, but I have to admit that I feel for the kids.
I find none of these people fascinating
Adam Lambert is pretty damn fascinating..
ABC…HHEELLOOOOO…ARE READING WHAT I’M READING…THE BACKLASH OF PEOPLE UPSET ABOUT LAMBERT CANCELLATIONS IS BIGGER THAN THE ONE ABOUT “INDECENCY”…WE’LL JUST BOYCOTT PASSIVELY BECAUSE WE AREN’T FANATICAL…WAY TO GO
Fascinating for Adam Lambert is an understatement. He is mad sexy, talented, smart, his vocals are unmatched, his stage presence is unmatched, his charisma alone could fill all 10 slots. Forget the rest! I’ll only be watching for him anyway!
i agree with you! hands down, adams the most fascinating person EVER. everything he does is amazing!
I will continue to find the gorgeous, insanely talented Mr. Lambert endlessly fascinating!!!!
LAMBERT IS FASCINATING…KUDOS FOR GETTING ONE RIGHT. GOSSELIN? BECK? REALLY? BW NEEDS TO RETIRE
Adam Lambert is definitely fascinating. Apart from his unique good looks and charisma, his phenomenal voice alone is mind-blowing!
I totally agree about Adam being most fascinating. I have no idea how and when he got me into his web. And the most awesome web it is!
AMEN!!! Adam Lambert is the ONLY reason i’ll be watching that show on ABC!!! A-Bigoted-Channel!
agree. they’re all pretty boring.
Baba is reaching for straws. Kate Gosselin fascinating? Does the fact that Jenny Sanford’s husband cheated on her and looked like an idiot make her fascinating? Glenn Beck? Really? Ugh.
Glenn Beck? Seriously? I missed that. Man I do not want to listen to that. This creep is sad and demented in the head. He thinks Obama is a racists and that if same sex marriages are approved that the universe will explode. Not really right in the head if you know what I mean.
