So, fun fact I thought I’d spill to all you Broadway nerds: Despite what you may have heard about A Steady Rain being totally sold out, you’ve still got one chance to see Daniel Craig and Hugh Jackman do their thing together (no, not that thing!) on the Great White Way. The two added one final performance to their turns as cops in Rain this Sunday, Dec. 6, at 7 p.m.—and you’re in luck because, yes, tickets are still available!
And, it gets better because, what do you know? It’s for a good cause. The absolute final performance will, at the super-sweet request of stars Craig and Jackman, benefit two charities: New Yorkers for Children, which helps kids in foster care, and NYCPBA Widows & Children’s Fund, which provides aid and assistance to widows, widowers, and dependents of police officers who’ve lost their lives in the line of duty. All the proceeds from this extra show will benefit these two charities.
It’s a move that, truly, isn’t surprising for the two stars, who’ve been working hard for the show’s 12-week run to raise millions during the annual Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS campaign period. Just for a little perspective, in last year’s fall BC/EFA campaign, in-theater pleas (which are a common occurrence for any regular theater-goer) raised $3 million. In the six-week period alone, Jackman and Craig are on track to raise $1.3 million themselves. (Look at what selling the shirt off your back every night, for up to $15,000, can do!) According to BC/EFA, the pair have broken every conceivable previous fund-raising record. Bravo, boys!
So, if you haven’t seen it and had always meant to and wanted to help a charity, maybe it’s worth checking into whether you can snatch a ticket for A Steady Rain? We here at EW might have only given it a C+, but you’ll probably only get to see these two on stage together…this one time. Do it.

C+? I feel like Ralphie in A Christmas story. I saw the play and would give it a solid A-. They play is great and if you are a fan of Daniel and/or Hugh, you’re in for a huge treat.
Go see it, it’s good and these guys are HOT HOT HOT! and you are helping a good cause!
I’ve seen this play twice and it’s excellent. Very intense story and incredible performances. That C+ rating and lazy review was one of the reasons I didn’t renew my EW subscription.
Nice boost for charity EW…tell people a show is crap but go see it anyway???????
Everyone I know who’s seen ASR says it’s great. I hope no one takes your opinions as anything but sour grapes. And I hope people cancel their subscriptions to your magazine since this isn’t the first time I’ve seen you write the lamest articles. Glad I’ve only see your site few times. I’d never subscribe.
Honestly, it wasn´t even a review. It looked like someone was forced to go to see the play and so took a revenge on reviewing it. I saw ASR and it´s great. Both actors are fantastic.
Let’s not knock EW for their opinion, after all…everyone has one. I would just like to say that if I was financially able, I would have gone to see the play simply because I absolutely love Hugh Jackman and I think he is a great, great talent. ASR would probably get rave reviews from me if I could attend.
Please let me add that all of the monies Hugh and Daniel have raised for all of these charitable organizations is absolutely astounding. I have been following all of the activities online and it just amazes me. I wish we had this kind of talent to bring forth in Louisville, KY to raise that kind of money for our charities. It would help so many children and families. I commend Hugh and Daniel for a job well done.
While everyone is entitled to his or her opinion, I think if your reviewer revisited the show, a much more positivei review would result. I’ve seen it numerous times over the run, and it’s gotten sharper, funnier and more dramatic. The byplay between Hugh and Daniel, as they have worked together during the past several months, has become even more natural and unforced. The performances are first-rate and not to be missed.
