Adam Lambert on his AMA vocals ('kind of a mess'), Elisabeth Hasselbeck ('we're very different'), and CBS' subtle message ('homosexuality is dangerous')

It’s been one helluva week for Adam Lambert. The American Idol season 8 runner-up released his debut album, For Your Entertainment; caused a ruckus with a sexually charged performance at Sunday’s American Music Awards; got disinvited from a scheduled appearance on Good Morning America; and then wound up as a last-minute guest this morning on CBS’ Early Show (where producers chose to blur out images of him kissing a male band member during his AMA set). As if that wasn’t enough excitement for one person, Adam then dropped by Manhattan’s Hudson Terrace this afternoon for a wide-ranging Réalité interview where we took a deep dive into the writing and recording process behind FYE. We’ll post the whole music-centric portion of our Adam interview next week — right after the Thanksgiving holiday, so save some room for dessert, please — but before then, we wanted to give you a little appetizer. Press play below for a three-part video where Adam gives his opinions on the nation’s comfort level with televised violence and sexuality, sounds off on another artist’s AMA performance he thought was “impeccable,” and coins the alarming phrase “trolley stop.” UPDATE: We’ve posted parts 4 and 5 of the Adam interview here – Happy Thanksgiving! — because, well, we care. And to get alerted to all my latest Idol musings, reviews, and interviews, follow me on Twitter @EWMichaelSlezak.

A very 'Friends'-y Thanksgiving: The 5 best episodes

Filed under: Television and tagged: ,

Ah, the Friends Thanksgiving episodes: They’re still some of the most reliably entertaining half-hour episodes the show ever produced.

Of the 10, 5 were good. And 5 were really, really good. These are those five great ones (and warning, the best episode autoplays after the jump): READ FULL STORY »

Viggo Mortensen talks about finding hope in 'The Road' and if he'll do 'The Hobbit'

Filed under: Movies and tagged:

Viggo Mortensen may have galloped his way into our collective pop-culture consciousness as Aragorn in The Lord of the Rings, but he was already mesmerizing a full decade earlier in Sean Penn’s The Indian Runner. His post-Rings output has seen some similarly impressive portrayals, particularly as the suburban-dad-with-a-past in A History of Violence and the coiled-spring Russian mobster in Eastern Promises. His latest role, in The Road, which opens today, is similarly affecting. Based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning Cormac McCarthy novel, the film follows a man and his son as they navigate the scorched landscape of a post-apocalyptic earth, with Mortensen playing the physically and emotionally emaciated father. The actor was kind enough to sit down and talk to us about his latest work, the emotional impact it had on him, and (couldn’t resist!) whether or not he’d be up for appearing in The Hobbit.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: You’ve been doing a lot of publicity for this movie…
VIGGO MORTENSEN:
Three months straight. I’ve done a lot because this movie needs awareness. Especially in a season where all kinds of movies come out and people invest in a lot of TV ads and all that. You need to get the word out for this kind of movie. It sounds really dark, but once you see it and realize there’s something uplifting about it, it’s worth going on that tough journey…I feel good about it creatively, I know that it’s a very faithful adaptation of a beautiful book, a beautiful story, and I know it’s a movie that will be seen and have a special place for years to come. But I want people to come see it in the movie theaters. READ FULL STORY »

First Look: 'Family Guy' spoofs 'Empire Strikes Back'

After the success of Family Guy‘s 2007′s Star Wars spoof, Blue Harvest, Seth MacFarlane and his writers decided to parody Empire Strikes Back. The result? Something, Something, Something Dark Side, an hour-long episode that will be available on DVD and Blu-ray Dec. 22. (In this photo, Stewie Griffin reprises his role as Darth Vader.) Even though MacFarlane & Co., had experience parodying the franchise, the Family Guy creator still said it was still a challenge the second time around. “It’s a lot of work, and it’s mainly because of what the movie was, and how visually impressive the movie was,” MacFarlane says. “If you look at the storyboards that our artists did for the episode, they could be the storyboards from the film. So in many ways, it’s like you’re remaking the Empire Strikes Back, which is a challenge.”

Mumble through Thanksgiving with 'Pilgrims'

Filed under: Movies and tagged:

Happy Thanksgiving, mumblecore style! Brooklyn-based filmmaker Victor Quinaz imagines the pilgrims as gum-chewing navel-gazers in this funny short film, “Pilgrims.” Moments to savor: “Hey, where’d you get the potato?,” slams of Ponce de Leon, and the squash-carrying new guy who announces himself with a “What’s up?”

'New Moon' Volturi member Jamie Campbell Bower wants more power

New Moon newcomer Jamie Campbell Bower plays Volturi member Caius. EW spoke with the 21-year-old British actor about what it takes to play a vampire, his craziest fan encounter and what powers he wished his character had.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Tell me about what it’s like entering this crazy phenomenon.
JAMIE CAMPBELL BOWER: Bizarre. You know it’s funny, we go in and do our job and never really expect anything else, as long as you’re happy with what you’ve done that’s all you really want. And then you do a movie where it has such a huge following and it’s definitely not something I was aware of at the time. I mean I knew of it, but it wasn’t something that was at the forefront of my mind or something that I had experienced yet.

Had you seen Twilight before?
I had, yes. I actually wanted to be involved in the first film. And I read the script for the first one and upon reading the script for the first movie I read all the books. So I had seen both the film, read the script and all the books. READ FULL STORY »

'Glee' gone until April, then up against 'Lost': What did we do to deserve this?

Filed under: Glee, Lost, Television and tagged: , , ,

Fox announced its midseason schedule yesterday, and amid the excitement about Idol and 24‘s returns, one major piece of info seemed to get lost: There won’t be any new Glee episodes between December 9 and April 13. Uh, slushie-in-your-face, Fox! What the what?

When it returns next year, Glee will be moving to Tuesdays, where it’ll have a small upstart indie series called American Idol as its lead-in. (This means it will basically never start on time.) But something else is on Tuesdays at 9. Something else I love. Something people are pretty into, something that’s about to end, something that inspires obsessive, intense viewership: Lost.

Lost vs. Glee, you guys. This is like choosing between coffee and beer. Why is life so unfair? I guess God is punishing me for my wickedness.

I don’t think any of us are going to give up on one of these shows — don’t even think it! that’s how the Evil Eye gets you! — but I’m wondering which you’ll DVR for later, and which you’ll watch right away. What’s a more pressing show: Lost or Glee?

Style Hunter: Jules' necklace from 'Cougar Town'

From her consistently refreshed stock of trendy dresses to her enviable accessories (not just Josh!), Cougar Town‘s Jules Cobb (Courteney Cox) is one hot mama. We already gave you the scoop on her Jennifer Meyer turtle necklace, but many of you asked about her delicate wrap-around necklace, and we have an answer!

Jules has been sporting two different versions of the Jennifer Meyer circle necklace—the 44-inch necklace (left) that she wore last week (roseark.com; $3,500), as well as the 16-inch version (roseark.com; $1,500).

If you’re not looking to fork over that much money to look like Jules, you can try Ann Taylor Loft’s “Long Stone Disc Dangle” necklace (anntaylorloft.com; $34.50) for a similar look that’s a bit easier on your wallet.
