Ashley Greene's new projects: Is there life beyond 'Twilight'?

Tagged: ,

Ashley-Greene_lThe Twilight series’ Ashley Greene is certainly keeping busy when she’s not playing vampire Alice Cullen. In addition to New Moon, Greene’s got the trashy slasher movie Summer’s Moon out on DVD Nov. 10. And just last week, there was news she was in talks to star in the supernatural thriller The Apparition. I don’t have much to say about either project yet (although, a DVD splatter movie called Summer’s Moon timed for release in the same month as soon-to-be-blockbuster New Moon is inspired marketing, yes?) But it did get me thinking about what could lie ahead for an actress like Greene who gets monumental exposure with a supporting role in a series like Twilight. On the surface, it seems like hitting the jackpot for an actor to land a regular, high-profile gig like that. On the other hand, the rabid fanbases for Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings didn’t translate into flourishing careers for all of the actors in those series. So while it seems fairly likely that we’ll be seeing Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart branching out, I’m not convinced that Twilight necessarily launches Greene onto Hollywood’s A-list. What do you think — will she forever be branded the vampire girl?

Clip du jour: 'Milk Men' takes on 'Mad Men'

Filed under: Mad Men and tagged: , ,

Mad Men parodies abound, and I am unable to resist their charms. “Milk Men” is awesome:

We’ve had Sesame Street‘s take, Mad Men in 60 seconds, and The Simpsons version of the opening. I don’t think I’ll ever tire of these, PopWatchers. What’s the best Mad Men spoof you’ve seen?

'30 Rock' recap: Do the robot

Bed bugs, Kathy Geiss as Susan Boyle, the return of Moon Vest, and the knowledge that Kenneth speaks Latin: Ah, “Audition Day,” you had your moments. These are the ten best lines from last night’s 30 Rock, in chronological order:

“I’m already not liking some of these people. It reminds me of being on the bus.” — Jack, who knows what will one day be your tomb

“Sorry I’m not a robot!” “We all are.” — Liz and Jack READ FULL STORY »

'The Office' recap: Do not test my politeness

Tagged: ,

“Double Date” brought an end to the Michael/Helene love story, which was obviously not going to last but I thought would be around for at least a few more episodes, but we saw another relationship bloom and grow: Dwight and Andy’s. Oh, those two. Punching, naked photos, and a taco lunch ahead, Officers!

'Parks and Recreation': Best lines from 'Ron and Tammy'?

Filed under: Television and tagged: ,

parks_recreation_mullallyForget angels vs. demons and Yankees vs. Phillies (insert “woohoo!” here). Last night’s Parks and Recreation staged one of the greatest battles of all time: Parks versus the library. Based on the jokes alone, Parks came out on top. Below, my favorite lines from “Ron and Tammy” (featuring guest star Megan Mullally, pictured, as Ron’s ex-wife and library employee Tammy).

Tammy: If I’d had a park like that growing up, I probably wouldn’t have gone through such a prolonged mall-slut phase.”

Leslie (Amy Poehler): ”Pawnee’s library department are the most diabolical, ruthless bunch of bureaucrats I’ve ever seen. They’re like a biker gang, but instead of shotguns and crystal meth, they use political savvy and shushing.”

Ron (Nick Offerman): ”Of course that bitch of an ex-wife is working at the library. The worst person in the world working at the worst place in the world.”

Leslie: “What do you mean, ‘no’? Everyone has a weakness.” Ron: “Not machines. I honestly believe she was programmed by someone in the future to come back and destroy all happiness.”

Ron: “Tammy is a mean person. She’s a grade-A bitch. Every time she laughs, an angel dies. Even telemarketers avoid her. Her birth was payback for the sins of man, but you know the worst thing about her?” Leslie: “She works for the library.”

Alynda Wheat's Beat Cop: The Last Patrol

There’s no way I’m going to get this right. We never say precisely what we ought to when we part, the words are never perfect enough — not even for those of us who get paid to write them…or used to, anyway. I’m sorry to say that this is the last time we’ll walk the Beat together as I’m leaving EW. So I’ll tell you what, Coppers, let’s save the hugs for the end, stuff down the tears (I grant that they’re probably all mine), and take a stroll. I’m ready if you are.

This, at least, I know you’ll love: Let’s talk about Criminal Minds! There’s a new team leader at the BAU, and he’s one tall drink of water, that Derek Morgan (Shemar Moore). He’s also pretty damned good at running the show. (And to think, you were worried! Okay, no, that was me.) We could tell from jump that Derek had this by the way he masterfully deflected Strauss’s (Jayne Atkinson) attempt to sow discord by trying to hand him Hotchner’s (Thomas Gibson) office. It was respectful but authoritative, clear and firm — and I’m totally taking notes on how to pull that move. Morgan was also in full control on the ground, calling orders and dispatching the team to track an UnSub who blitzes his victims, slices their throats, then uses some kind of freaky ocular melon-baller to remove their eyes. This or That: Kitten Mittens or D-- Towel on 'Sunny'

heather_sunny1Last night’s It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia reached unprecedented levels of brilliant idiocy as the gang attempted to capitalize on the existence of Paddy’s Pub with some completely unrelated merch. The episode’s not online yet, but YouTube has Charlie’s “Kitten Mittens” pitch and a full-length infomercial for Dennis and Mac’s D— Towel (NSFW link). Let’s play This or That after you’ve had the chance to watch both videos after the jump. Sidenote: Did anyone catch Rock of Love season 1 runner-up Heather Chandler (pictured) playing a prostitute in the lawyer’s office? Her latest handkerchief shirt was a bit more classy than what she used to wear on Vh1. Demure gold jewelry, too! She’s really stepped it up lately. NSFW images ahead. READ FULL STORY »

William Shatner on 'The Tonight Show': This time, he reads Levi Johnston's REAL Tweets!

Yesterday, we posted a clip featuring William Shatner dramatically reading what everyone assumed were Tweets from Levi Johnston. “Maybe I’m a genius,” Shatner said, with the perfect, slow delivery. “Maybe I don’t exist and it only seems like I do. Maybe this is a parallel universe, where I don’t. Anybody know where I can get some good weed?” But as it turns out, those were Tweets from an impostor! So last night, Shatner returned to The Tonight Show for a repeat reading — this time, with the right Tweets. (Thank the Alaskan Gods!) And, honestly, they’re so much better and more stupid. “Guess what? I shot a big-ass bear,” Shatner intones. And later, my personal fave: “I just get naked. It’s what I do.” Enjoy the short and sweet clip here (it autoplays): READ FULL STORY »

'The Onion' heading to Comedy Central: Area online sports news team gets TV show

Good news: The Onion Sports Network online video series will turn into a weekly Comedy Central TV show! I’ll definitely be watching. I already get all of my news from Comedy Central and sports awareness from The Onion, so now I can learn even more without having to shift my body slightly to gaze upon a different screen. My latest aha! moment: There is a basketball team called the Los Angeles Clippers:

No air date yet for the half-hour scripted series, but you can gear up by watching all of the Onion News Network’s sports-related videos here. Will you watch an Onion sports show? Which fringe events do you want to see covered? I’m hoping for a weekly “Steam Room” installment hosted by hopefully-a-blood-relation Mark Barrett and the use of mid-to-late-’90s Jock Jams as a bumpin’ background beat the entire time…

Jim Carrey's new personal website: A visually stunning treat

Filed under: News and tagged:

jim-carrey-website2_lJust in time for today’s release of his big Disney holiday flick, remake A Christmas Carol, comedian Jim Carrey has relaunched his personal website, and let’s just say, it’s not uninteresting. In fact, echoing his sometimes-comedic sensibilities, it’s got an almost fantastical, psychedelic vibe to it. I totally dig it.

While it’s actually little more than just career-ish type site featuring his spots on television and films, as well as a news feed and one pretty cool link to his Twitter account (unless I’m missing something more?), the visual elements of the new site are the absolutely stunning part. And no wonder — it was put together by 65 Media, the Web designers behind some other cool Hollywood sites, like ones for Land of the Lost and Ratatouille.

What’s also fun is the little embellishes. You can clearly tell that Carrey—or someone on his team, or those interesting folks over at 65 Media — delighted in creating this site. As I already mentioned, I’m obsessed with the link to his Twitter account (although the Tweets themselves are nothing special), which is a little bird at the top of various landing pages on the site, which actually spits out some of Carrey’s latest thoughts. (“headed over to Burbank to face Conan O’brien!” the jaunty little bird, complete with Carrey’s head, says!)
