Ashley Greene: Interview with 'New Moon's' Alice Cullen

Nothing like a role in Twilight to break you into show business. That’s the case for Ashley Greene, who had spent most of her time in Hollywood as a hostess in an L.A. restaurant prior to her fame-making role as Alice Cullen. The Floridian native just finishing touring the country in support of New Moon and she’ll start filming the horror film Apparition in Berlin in February. We chatted with Greene days before New Moon started breaking records.

Are the reactions to Twilight the same all around the country?

I was impressed in Chicago, actually. Chicago was really, really intense and loud and I think it was one of the bigger responses that we had. But there’s always a lot of people, a lot of passion, a lot of screaming, a lot of crying. So really it’s all measured in terms of how deep the screaming goes.

Was it much different than last year?

I guess it’s more intense. I’m much more comfortable with this whole thing. I didn’t really know what to expect at all when I first got into it. It was my first gig, and so it was a little crazy and I was really nervous. READ FULL STORY »

Chris Brown heading to '20/20'

Tagged:

ABC has taped an interview Chris Brown for 20/20, according to the AP. GMA anchor Robin Roberts conducted the interview, which is scheduled to air Dec. 11. Yes, Brown does indeed have a new album coming out right around then.

Last week on the Music Mix, we wondered if Chris Brown’s career rehab was working — and the answer seemed to be a tentative yes. I guess it makes sense that 20/20 would be on his image rehab tour, but I wonder if there’s actually anything Brown could do or say that would alter the public perception at this point. Are there really people whose minds could conceivably be changed by an interview?

I seriously doubt it, PopWatchers, but maybe you feel differently: Could a candid interview affect how you feel about Chris Brown — or change how likely you’d be to buy one of his albums?

Clips du jour: 'Star Trek' goes 'A-Team,' Han Solo goes 'Scar Face'

Express train to mash-up town, you guys. First up, what if Star Trek is secretly The A-Team?

I chuckled. But I liked this Scarface/Star Wars hybrid better. It contains adult language, so uh, viewer discretion is advised. READ FULL STORY »

Hasbro lets us operate on SpongeBob. Which TV character would you like to get inside?

I’ve always been somewhat of a board game purist. (Evidence: my reaction to Hasbro’s new-ish pimped-out version of Clue.) Yet, I’m not totally against Hasbro’s new SpongeBob SquarePants-centric Operation game, which allows you to dive inside the character and remove his Barnacle Brain, Clammy Hands, and questionably named Patty Pleasure Center. (What kind of game is this exactly?!)

And that’s not because I’m a SpongeBob fan. In fact, I’ve only caught a few episodes during those nights when I’ve had enough PBRs to find myself inexplicably drawn to Nickelodeon. No, I like the concept of the Operation game because it got me thinking about other TV characters I’d like to get inside. (I’ll give you a second to get your mind out of the gutters, PopWatchers!)

For one, I’d love to take a gander inside of Lost‘s Ben Linus, if only to find out whether or not he does have a heart. And who wouldn’t want to extract Liz Lemon’s funny bone from her body in order to implant it into their own?

Your turn—what TV character would you like to Operate on? And what show do you hope Hasbro eventually uses as inspiration for one of its games? I’m still crossing my fingers for an American Idol-inspired Trivial Pursuit, because I need something to show for the 5 million hours I’ve spent ingesting the series.

Do you have to see the alternate ending for 'Paranormal Activity'?

Filed under: Movies and tagged: , ,

Paramount is planning a Dec. 29 launch of Paranormal Activity on DVD and Blu-ray – including the alternate ending not seen in theaters (in an unrated version of the film). If you loved Paranormal in cinemas, do you feel allegiance to that ending, or do you feel like you must see the alternate ending?

Generally speaking, do you watch alternate endings if they are available on DVD? And if so, were there any films you thought were better with the alternate ending? Or any that were ruined?

'New Moon' costume designer Tish Monaghan on Edward's suit and Jacob's cut-offs

You have to immediately like a costume designer who’ll admit that she’s wearing sweatpants while chatting with you from her Vancouver home. We phoned Tish Monaghan, who took over styling duties for The Twilight Saga: New Moon and Eclipse, to talk about how Edward ended up in a suit, why Jacob’s muscles are bulging through his shirt (when he actually wears one), what department mandated that the wolf pack’s jean shorts be extra tight, and more.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Anyone who’s listened to the Twilight DVD commentary knows that Robert Pattinson wasn’t a fan of Edward’s pea coat.
TISH MONAGHAN: He wasn’t a fan of the pea coat. He wore it in virtually every scene, and I think maybe he just got tired of it. I’m guessing. [Laughs] He just wanted a more mature look. That was part of Edward’s Grade 11 year, and now he’s getting into his graduation year, he’s in a relationship. He had worn hoodies and jeans and sneakers, and Robert, the director [Chris Weitz], and I all wanted to portray him more as a gentleman, more elegant and classic. With our vampire characters, I always went back to the time period in which they were turned to see if there’s any element I could try to simulate in contemporary clothing. He came out of the Edwardian period, around 1910. Of course, most of the gentleman from that time would be wearing suits, coats, hats, etc. We had to pick something that was iconic for the character that would suffice to be used throughout the whole film. At the very beginning of the film, he has one school outfit, and then there’s Bella’s birthday party and disaster strikes. So Edward ends up in that same costume for the remainder of the film. I was thinking of just putting him in a dress shirt and a pair of pants, but Robert wanted to be in a suit. READ FULL STORY »

Your Thanksgiving TV marathon guide: Saturday

Filed under: Television and tagged: , ,

It’s as much of an annual tradition as turkey, football, and awkward family dynamics — the Thanksgiving weekend TV marathon. With Thursday and Friday behind you, why not head to the fridge, get some leftovers, and settle in to that nice groove in the sofa. And look, we’ve already done the hard part for you. Here’s our guide to the best marathon programming for Saturday, Nov. 28.

*After two days of stuffing and mashed potatoes, nothing fits, right? Well, feel better about yourself by tuning in to TLC’s What Not to Wear marathon? Sure, those pants may be a little snug at this point after the past couple of days of not knowing when to say “when”, but at least you’ve got style. Unlike these poor saps.

*Think your family’s dysfunctional? Well, at least you’re not the Bundys. So, it could be worse, right? Head on over to TV Land for their Married…With Children-apalooza.

*Repeat after me, “I’m getting too old for this s—!” That’s right, back-to-back-to-back Riggs and Murtaugh over on Spike with Lethal Weapon, Lethal Weapon 2 (hello, Patsy Kensit!), and Lethal Weapon 3. If you’re still hungry for more action after that, why not check out the late great Swayze as the world’s baddest bouncer in Road House, which, for my money, should become to Thanksgiving what It’s a Wonderful Life is to Christmas.

*Finally, over on Syfy, there’s a glorious block of cheese that includes such B-movie monster gems as Mega Shark Vs. Giant Octopus and Lake Placid 2. Bon Appetit!

What will you be watching?

'Dexter,' 'White Collar' -- what shows are you catching up on this weekend?

Filed under: Television and tagged:

We all have that deep dark corner of our DVRs, that bookmarked page on Hulu, those Netflix DVDs we’ve had for months — that show we’ve been waiting to binge on. It’s a long weekend, PopWatchers, and that means it’s time to get caught up on our favorites.

My first order of business is Dexter. I fell way behind on my beloved serial killer this season — Mad Men so thoroughly dominated my Sunday nights, I usually couldn’t handle both. I have four or five collecting dust on my DVR at this point, and I am eager to plow through them.

The other pick? New-comer White Collar. I watched a few episodes on Hulu in the last week or two and am totally falling for. It’s not the best most original or fascinating caper drama in history, but it’s finding its footing and style more and more each week, and its sense of humor and pacing are really starting to work. Plus, I’m as taken with the cast as I’d hoped I’d be.

What are you catching up on, PopWatchers? The Good Wife? FlashForward? Modern Family?

Clip du jour: The Beatles in 1000 years

When The History Channel makes a special about The Beatles in 1,000 years, this is what it’ll look like:

I still miss President Nixovelt. Don’t you, PopWatchers?

Holiday songs just after Thanksgiving: Too soon?

Strolling through the mall, driving to the movie theater, waiting for a table at dinner—it doesn’t matter where you go; the day after Thanksgiving begins the onslaught of holiday tunes.

Don’t get me wrong; I love jamming to “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree,” but all in due time, radio stations. Getting an earful of these songs before we even enter December seems like overkill. And by the time we do, I’ve heard enough sleigh bells ring-ting-tingaling and chestnuts roasting to last two holiday seasons.

It all reminds me of Hugh Grant’s character Will in About a Boy. In his case, he gets an even earlier dose of the holidays tunes with his father’s song, “Santa’s Super Sleigh”:

“November the sodding 19th. Six weeks before Christmas and already they were playing the bloody thing.”

I say, let’s preserve what little novelty these songs have and put them on heavy rotation only starting, say, December 4—a good three weeks before Christmas.

Is anyone else with me? If so, what songs drive you up the wall?
