New 'Glee' preview: The competition gets 'Bootylicious!'

Filed under: Glee, Television and tagged: , , ,

Fox has released a teaser for this week’s episode of Glee, called “Hairography.” We get to meet one of the glee club’s main rivals, the Jane Adams Reform School for Girls, whose coach is played by guest-star Eve. And there’s a snippet of Eve’s gals’ covering Destiny’s Child classic, “Bootylicious,” which looks awesome! Also, there’s some genuinely funny behind-the-scenes banter with Cory Monteith and Chris Colfer.

What do you think PopWatchers? Are you excited for this week's episode?

Alex Meraz of 'New Moon' talks playing 'bad-boy' Paul, bulking up, and 'Twilight' fandom

Filed under: Movies and tagged: , , ,

These days, Alex Meraz, the 24-year-old actor who plays New Moon‘s Paul — the most explosive member of the wolf pack — is washing his hands. As well he should — following New Moon‘s giant, record-breaking weekend, the actor is getting recognized more than ever. And that’s quite a change for Meraz, considering his previous work includes small indie flicks, and a small role in 2005′s The New World. The actor took time out of shaking hands to talk to EW about Native Americans in film, working out for the role, and why he’ll never be a diva.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: It’s probably been crazy for you lately, running around to premieres everywhere.
ALEX MERAZ: Yeah, it has been actually. Meeting a lot of fans and shaking a lot of different hands. So there’s been a lot of hand sanitizer.

Were you a fan of the books before you got the role?
No. I didn’t really know what it was. I’d go to Borders in Arizona and see it everywhere, because the writer [Stephenie Meyer] is from there. I remember seeing these pasty hands and a red apple. And I didn’t even know what it was until after it came out and it was [successful]. And then thought, I’d like to try out for the next role.

Clip du jour: 'Meet the Putties'

Depending on your knowledge of Power Rangers, you’ll either find this hilarious, or you’ll have know idea what’s going on. I, for one, am dying.

Okay, PopWatchers, when was the last time you heard a Rita Repulsa joke?

Darth Vader shoes: I want them (alive)

When I saw these Darth Vader sneakers I almost had a heart attack out of sheer desire. (Though the Storm Trooper ones are pretty amazing, too.) But then I thought of my already ridiculous number of Star Wars possessions and tchotckes — Darth Tater, I love you — and realized I probably won’t shell out for these kicks. At least not when so many other amazing options abound. It really is useless to resist! READ FULL STORY »

'Beastly' teaser trailer: I expected more hair

Here’s the new Twilight-esque teaser trailer for Beastly, a modern-day retelling of Beauty and the Beast based on the novel by Alex Finn. What’s going on here? I know it’s only two seconds long, but I demand more beastliness and maybe a .05-second glimpse of Neil Patrick Harris. When I thumbed through this book a few weeks ago, I imagined Kyle to be much hairier. Alex Pettyfer is giving off more of a (Disney pretty-boy) Gaston vibe than the Beast here. If so, this lad should consider eating four dozen eggs every morning to help him get large. Perhaps we should rename one of this post’s categories to The Bad Man Doesn’t Scare Me Enough!

'Dirty Dancing' Christmas marathon: Pssst, your father's coming.

TV Guide Network will air a 12-hour Dirty Dancing marathon starting at noon ET on Christmas Day. Thoughts:

• The movie takes place in summer. But okay.
• Are we talking about a one-time tribute to the late Patrick Swayze or an annual event? (A rep for TV Guide Networks tells us, “Currently, the 12-hour Dirty Dancing marathon is planned as a special one-time event for Christmas day; however, depending on the response we may very well keep this as an annual tradition.”)
• I’ve got to call my mother. She took my sister and I to see the film six times in the theater, paid nearly $100 to own the movie when it was first released on VHS, and, literally, just yesterday, simulated Swayze’s dance moves to “Love Man” when the song came on my iPod while she was driving. This is why this marathon is as good an idea as any.
• There will be some teen girl who’s emotionally scarred when her father walks into the room during the love scene and says to her her sister, and her mother, “Is this what you people watch?” Did anyone else’s father have an uncanny ability of entering at the worst possible moment during movies when you were growing up? You may have blocked it out, but think…

AMAs: Now that it's over, who do you find yourself suddenly obsessed with?

I watched the American Music Awards a few hours too late to participate in our live blog of the event on EW.com’s Music Mix. Without being fully aware of my actions (I was on my laptop too, of course), I ended up rewinding Alicia Keys’ and Jay-Z‘s excellent performance of “Empire State of Mind” like seven times and am now a little obsessed with both of them. The only moments that break up the viewing experience are the constant cuts to celebs in the audience, half of whom didn’t notice the camera and were just rocking out (Sofia Vergara, Leona Lewis, um…Perez Hilton), and half of whom self-consciously attempted to tone down their exuberance (Colbie Caillat, Mary J. Blige) — but didn’t really, because everyone was having a blast! Well, except for a chilled-out Billie Joe Armstrong and a motionless Lady Gaga, but who’s to say she wasn’t having a blast inside her head? Big lights do inspire her.

I’m also way more into Kelly Clarkson than I was a day ago. This happens every time I see her perform live. Is anyone else suddenly obsessed with an artist or song after watching the AMAs, or am I just way too easily thrilled? Which was your favorite performance?

'The Howling' remake: So is the werewolf craze a go?

Filed under: Movies, News and tagged: ,

A remake of the 1981 film The Howling has been announced days after the werewolf-filled Twilight Saga: New Moon scored the third largest opening weekend: Coincidence? We think not, considering that a former studio marketing exec, Joe Nimziki, is behind the movie. According to Variety, the plot of The Howling: Reborn is under wraps, but Nimziki will direct from a script he penned himself, with cameras rolling in February — right around the time that The Wolfman, starring Benicio Del Toro, hits theaters. Let us not forget that MTV is also developing a Teen Wolf series, Dimension Films has acquired the rights to John Landis’ An American Werewolf in London, with Sean and Bryan Furst (Daybreakers) set to produce, and Saturday Night Live‘s Bill Hader is high on a remake of Teen Wolf Too. Okay, he was just joking when he told us last April that it was the ’80s movie he’d like done over — “I liked Teen Wolf, but Teen Wolf Too was the first real letdown I had as a kid. I feel like you should remake a movie that was legitimately bad in the ’80s, instead of remaking something that was awesome” — but he has a point. If the werewolf craze is upon us, which movie would you like to see rebooted, and which film do you pray rests in peace?

Since The Howling: Reborn is happening regardless, any words of wisdom for Nimziki? A little inspiration:

Réalité: Champs crowned on 'Runway' and 'ANTM,' righteous ousters on 'Top Chef' and 'SYTYCD,' and bonus Kris Allen!

The 2009 reality TV season is zooming toward its inevitable end — the sounds of “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” at the local pharmacy tell me it is so — but that just means it’s the most wonderful time of the year for Réalité*. Righteous winners were crowned on America’s Next Top Model and Project Runway. Hugh Hefner committed an act of unintentional sabotage on Dancing With the Stars. The spirits of Channing Tatum and Carol Channing were invoked (probably for the last time) on So You Think You Can Dance. And someone totally awesome (named Jennifer) rallied despite weird Da Vinci Code shenanigans on Top Chef. All that plus BONUS INTERVIEW FOOTAGE WITH KRIS ALLEN! How can you not press play below? Wait. Don’t answer that. Instead, follow me on Twitter @EWMichaelSlezak. Or head on down to the comments, make like Madoonie, and “Express Yourself”!

*We will be taking next week off for Thanksgiving, but we promise extra stuffing upon our return.
