'Ugly Betty' Bites: 10 genius lines from Friday night's great episode!

Ugly Betty is just getting better and better this season, as evidenced by Friday night’s stellar episode. (Sorry for the delay, BTW, with the Ugly Betty Bites—I blame it on Thanksgiving madness and entirely too much turkey!) The great hour of television featured a mix of great storylines, including one about a cult that Daniel was entrenched in, another about Willy’s scheming daughter Nico, and finally yet another about Claire Meade’s long-lost son. Also: The show’s namesake, Betty, actually got funny! If you look back through past editions of Ugly Betty Bites, you’ll see the love—at least in terms of the best lines—usually goes to the supporting cast, led by Hilda, Claire, Marc, and Amanda. But on Friday’s episode, Betty actually had two—count ‘em, two!—quips that were worthy of Ugly Betty Bites. Big ups to Chris Black, who wrote the episode.

And without further ado, on to the 10 best sound bites from Friday’s episode:

“Listen to you! You are talking about comfortable shoes. Has the world gone mad?” —Marc, to Willy, after she was photographed wearing (gasp!) Crocs

“Marc, do you think I haven’t tried? I’ve already prostrated myself before the mummified remains of Claire Meade and begged for my job back. She said ‘no.’ At least I think she said ‘no.’ She opened her mouth, and a cloud of dust came out.” —Willy, about trying to get her job back at Mode

“I talked to Betty about it, and she said she’s totally over him, so I got the green light. And in case that conversation happened in my head, Betty’s not going to know about it because I’m going to date him in secret.” —Amanda, about dating Betty’s ex Matt

“So, since this is the fearless issue, I was thinking we could shoot the models dressed as pirates, plundering booty but also showing booty.” —Betty, pitching a pirate-themed story during an editorial meeting

“Daniel, do you think I would be staking out the men’s room, listening to strange guys go to the bathroom, if I didn’t want to understand? The copier repairman was in here for 20 minutes!” —Betty, trying to convince Daniel that she wants to understand the cult he’s joined

“I am not going to set up a payment plan with a blackmailer!” —Willy, while trying to figure out how to get Nico out of the mess she’s in

“Higher…or lower. Either way works for me.” —Amanda, to Matt, whose hands were on her hips, guiding her in how to play Nintendo Wii

“I always knew that I was born to fashion. I mean this [motions to what she’s wearing] is not just some off-the-rack sperm-and-egg collision. You know, it’s destined. It’s genetical.” —Amanda, while telling the story of her mother at the cult session

“Thirty-six. Twenty-four. Thirty-six. My measurements.” —Willy, verbalizing the code to the secret safe where she keeps the family heirloom necklace

“I took ‘You’ve reached the office of the murderer’ off your voicemail.” —Amanda, after reconciling with Claire over the murder of her mother

While I didnt think it was the best episode of the season, I’m glad they wrapped up the loose ends of this whole Community thing and Nico.
Overally, pretty good episode! Next week looks amazing..The Bahamas!!!

    • shakywalls

I thought the eppy was pretty boring — too much focus on Daniel’s snoozeworthy storyline. At least now we can finally move on from that, and onto something different

  • Hilary

It was a good episode but a lot more serious and suspensful than usual! But I liked it. I heard the ratings were pretty off but I guess thats because of the black friday, thanksgiving, long weekend madness. I saw it and I loved it! Hope the numbers bounce back again because it has truely been a joy to watch this show creativly get soooooooo much better this season.

  • Michelle

Yay for Betty! I think the writers are at least trying to get America nominated again for an Emmy. I dont think she was last year =( Good episode, I just wish there was some of the Szuarez family in it! OH and I loveeeeeeee Claire and Amanda together, we never get to see that.

Is it true that ABC is considering moving Betty to Wednesdays at 10?

    • shakywalls

After Friday’s ratings…..I highly doubt it.

      • Michelle

well last friday wasnt really a suprise! it was the long weekend and black friday. Episodes that air around that time NEVER and will never do well. Even look at Wednesday, the day before thanksgiving. Glee, Modern Family and Cougar town all hit series lows.

      • T

As of today, the news is everywhere and yes they are moving UB to Wednesdays! YAY!!!

  • queensgirl

I actually thought it was the weakest episode of the season.

    • Guy

Wow, it was the best one for me!

  • Brynna

Super awesome episode. God I hope Betty can be saved from this ratings hell. Fridays suck.

  • Jazmine

Overall this eppy was good glad those storylines are wrapped up but one thing i would change Willie shoulda bitchslapped Nico but my favorite parts though
Marc dancing in the clogs and then Willie catching him in them was GOLD!
Also the best Amanda line when they asked what happened to her mother
Claire- She was in an accident
    Amanda-she murdered her
Matt fighting off the guards was funny too!
Too bad the ratings werent good this was a great episode

  • Maahem

I dont think it was the best of the season but it was good they ended the Daniel story line. I hate to admit it but I actually got a little interested in it near the end and I feel bad for Natalie. Oh well.
And I agree..the ratings were down but its not a suprise, it was a long weekend etc.

  • Avneet

“Well, sorta, you kissed by eyebrow, I’m not the same height as Molly” Betty answering Daniel when he asked if they kissed.

    • Mel

second that line. I cracked up too.

    • Avneet

CORRECTION: “Well, sorta, you kissed around my eyebrow, I’m shorter than Molly”

  • Sarah

love this show–I love Daniel and Betty as friends!

  • Jeff

I’d told my brother during Thanksgiving dinner that Ugly Betty is REALLY good again. Then this episode aired and he thought I’d lost my sense of taste. It was an awful episode in a terrific season. It didn’t help that we missed the first few minutes and at least two of the lines listed above, though.

    • Maahem

I agree, this wasnt the best. I’m sure it will get better

  • GeeMoney

Why was there a new ep this week? I thought that everything was in reruns! AAARRRRGGGHH!

    • Reena

GeeMoney….I am so confused on Friday (i live in maryland and have verizon) there was no Ugly Betty on ABC and nothing about it on the TV Guide….so Sunday I am channel flipping during football and i see there is an episode on at 3pm so i figured its a repeat but decided to turn it on and it was the NEW ONE! I am glad I caught it but if you want to see it again its online at ABC.com I dont know why it was on on Friday in some places but not all.

      • GeeMoney

        Thanks, dude.

      • Nicole

I was so confused when I saw my DVR recorded an episode on Sunday at 3… I thought it had just recorded the time wrong somehow, but I guess not!

  • paige

My favorite part was the giant smack Marc laid on Willy – and she quickly forgave him for… otherwise, i am grateful they wrapped up the annoying cult story and here’s hoping they replace willy’s daughter again… girl cant act

    • Sara

Yaya from ANTM played Nico. She could never act. I find her hyper-diction distracting…

      • Zoeysmom

Second that. Gabrielle Union was MUCH better as Nico.

      • Owen

Gabrielle Union played Willie’s sister, not Nico.

  • Talkingfeather

I almost fell down with laughter when Marc hit Willy. Her reaction was spot on! I was SO glad they wrapped up this silly cult saga! UGH! But, Daniel kissing Betty’s eyebrow was great & Willy & Amanda’s connection was great, I so guess it was worth it! Not the best episode, but I love Ugly Betty anyway! I can’t wait for next week!

  • Pete

“I’m not sorry you murdered my mother. I’m only sorry that you murdered her before I got a chance to know her.”
