'New Moon': Men, did you like it better than 'Twilight'? Which vampire franchise is right for you?

Categories: New Moon, Twilight, Vampires

A common refrain from the actors promoting The Twilight Saga: New Moon has been that men will like this film better than the last one. “I think guys won’t mind if their girlfriends drag them to a Twilight film this time because there is a very masculine side to this film. It brings a whole different level of excitement. The vampires are older and more suave and mature. The shapeshifters are not. We are young, aggressive and have tons of testosterone and nudity. It will make for a more balanced date night movie selection,” Alex Meraz (aka werewolf Paul) insisted to EW at the Los Angeles premiere. “And even if they don’t want to see it, if they want to see their girlfriends, they better go because that’s where their girls will be. And I feel like we are buttering up their girls with our abs so they could get lucky.”

We could poll his “get lucky” theory, but instead, let’s put aside the vaguely sexist implication that action films only appeal to men and see if New Moon really was more enjoyable for men than Twilight

Now, here’s something everyone, regardless of gender, can enjoy. Find out which vampire franchise — Twilight, The Vampire Diaries, True Blood — is right for you with the quiz we created with Hunch.com.

For chrissakes already, EW, enough of the Twilight garbage! The Web site and the magazine are turning into Tiger Beat

    • SloaneBueller

Apparently EW shouldn’t cover phenomenons. So no Beatles, Harry Potter, Elvis, etc.

      • DW

Twilight is not a phenomenon, it’s a flash in the pan. There’s a good reason they’re releasing a movie every year. They know the fad will die soon, and they have to milk it while they can.

  • HELLLNO

what a dumb phag…”We are young, aggressive and have tons of testosterone and nudity” WTF?! I already knew this movie sucked a$$ but thanks for letting me know that its gay as hell too. And no guy wants his girlfriend to be buttered up by another man’s abs you crap-faced puppy

    • Graeme

      Hahahaha, ‘dumb phag.’
Before you call someone dumb, make sure you’re spelling every word correctly. Just saying.

      • Chris

Prolly used that spelling so it wouldnt get censored. Just sayin. Welcome to Teh Inernetz.

  • Andy

I actually prefer Buffy the vampire Slayer over those three because buffy is badass and it has appeal to both male and female.

  • Sam

I was actually forced to watch New Moon cause my girlfriend was dying. I was quite intimidated by the fact that there was a lot shirtlessness in the movie.

    • Sam

      *dying to see it.

      • Nick

thanks for clearing that up, you seemed like a real ass for a second there

  • Jacob

Yeah, I agree with Andy. None of these franchises have the quality writing, direction, acting, or basically anything of Buffy and Angel.

  • Matt

If and when the Preacher comic books get made to films we might actually get to see a cool vampire on film again.

    It’s been a while.

    • Chris

Man, I love me some Preacher but I would hope they wouldn’t tone down the series to appeal to a bunch of cougars and jailbait.

    • Whatever

Worst idea ever. They would try to make a blockbuster out of this great comics and totally fail to make anything good.

  • ANNYONG!

    True Blood, baby.
The correct way to give vampire stories a love angle.
Not this cheesy emo-crap the Twilight series is brainwashing our women with.
    It’s the end of times.

  • Snarf

True Blood! Sorry, but besides Meraz and Lautner, the rest of the Wolfpack needs some more time with a trainer….

  • Chris

    Thanks, EW!
Not only do you further yourself by insulting everyone’s intelligence with Twilight crap, but you make it worse by trying to get men to garner interest in this crap!
Not only that but you have to post a picture of shirtless Tweens to rub our collective faces in it even more.

  • Vic

Is EW exclusively for 12 year old girls now? WTF with all this Twilight garbage?!

  • Wheaty

Jeez, how many times does it have to be said? Not everything is for everybody. I like Twilight, and I respect the people who think it’s garbage. Because you are not me and you are not expected to like everything I like. I am clueless about Star Trek and I respect the people who goes nuts about it. There’s room for everybody. Stick to what you like, and respect others. EW isn’t trying to convert you by asserting all these Twilight articles on its website everyday. Does EW need to post every article you like? Use your time wisely, and comment on something you are passionate about, and not on something you are clueless about.

    • Chris

If EW deems it worthwhile to post half a dozen New Moron articles per day, then I have every right to complain!

    • lala

hear yee, hear yee! totally agree with you, wheaty!

    • Chris

Certainly Twilight does *some* attention. No one is trying to deprive the fans of what they like (okay, maybe some are). But how about some moderation, some balance? Does every EW article need to be twilight oriented? The backlash would be less severe if we weren’t bombarded by Twihard-related content.

  • Andy Bluebear

Er, isn’t the whole point of this article to try and get guys to see the movie, Wheaty? The only thing ‘better’ is the production values, which were expected to improve. But other than that, I’ll stick with the Harry Potter series. The Twilight ‘Saga’ isn’t fit to lick that series shoes…

  • Jenny

Buffy needs NEEDS to be on the quiz list. True Blood is fine, Twilight is okay, Vampire Diaries is garbage… buffy/angel beats them all.

  • Chappel

Does this mean we can expect a rise in teen pregnancies and STDs in the near future?

  • ns

Someone needs to explain to me why these werewolves all feel the need to shave their chests when they are in their human form. The hairless chests are further proof that this is not a franchise for guys.
