This Week's Issue: Jaclyn Smith remembers Farrah Fawcett

Categories: In Memoriam, Television

As part of our Late Greats tribute package, EW asked the friends and colleagues to share their memories of the stars we lost in 2009.

Farrah Fawcett
Feb. 2, 1947 – June 25, 2009

By Jaclyn Smith

I think what made Farrah work was that she was so sexy, yet there was that girl-next-door quality about her, so she didn’t alienate people. Girls loved her, guys loved her. Farrah was an original, always her own person in her personal life as well as in her career. Her choices were unexpected. I am in awe of the bravery she showed in facing her disease. Her strength, her resilience, her utter lack of self-pity. Her disease did not kill her spirit. She will live in my heart forever. (Fawcett died of cancer in Santa Monica.)

For more Late Greats tributes — including Matthew Broderick on John Hughes, Keith Carradine on David Carradine, and Kenny Ortega on Michael Jackson — pick up the new issue of Entertainment Weekly, on stands now.

So you’re putting the “Entertainers of the Year” list back in the year-end issue? Always thought that worked better. Given all the folks we lost this year, makes sense to have their own big issue.

Will you guys have a BEST OF THE DECADE special issue ??

I’m sure you have a great write up on Count Yorga – Robert Quarry! So I’ll pick up the issue today. Robert’s passing is a great loss in the horror community… and was one of the late Paul Newman’s favorite actors. Can’t wait to see what you say about him.

Loved that Farrah…R.I.P. I recently bought Season 4 of Charlie’s Angels with Smith, Ladd, and lovely Shelley Hack, but Farrah shines on these too as a guest star. I highly recommend the DVD for nostalgia and to see Farrah’s last big ‘angel’ smile in episode #88 ‘An Angels Trail’.
Congrats, on EW for featuring the late great Farrah again.
