Holiday TV marathons: A chance to try something new?

If your Thanksgiving is anything like mine, it’s chilly, you’ve got a major case of comatose and there’s something on TV that’s playing from 9 am to 9 pm.

In my case, that show is often Law & Order: SVU, a show that never seemed to pull me in as a loyal viewer. But, call it a Christmas miracle (for the cable network airing SVU), because whenever there’s a marathon of the crime series on during the holidays, those women-centric murder mysteries have me hooked.

The same goes for America’s Next Top Model, which used to have a place in my heart until it became a repetitive hot mess. Still, when the holidays roll around, it’s almost as though Tyra has cast a spell on me, and I feel compelled to watch someone named Fabricasia pose with a goat in a Third World country. Damn you, Tyra!

My regular programming returns with the end of the long weekend, but sometimes I look back and think, “How did I just watch eight hours of SVU?”

What about you guys? Are there any shows that you normally don’t watch, yet somehow command you to the couch during the holidays? For some of EW’s choices for marathon viewing, click here and check back every morning this long weekend for more picks.

    @Matt

    I agree the house marathons are the best fans of the show get to see episode that they have not seen in a while and newcomers are exposed to a good show.
