'New Moon' morning TV roundup: Robert Pattinson officially proud of his abs, Regis Philbin officially Team Jacob

Could Taylor Lautner have surpassed Robert Pattinson in popularity overnight? If you caught Lautner on Today and Live with Regis and Kelly this morning, you might think so. He was greeted by louder screams than Pattinson, both in the Plaza, where Today made Lautner sign autographs before Matt Lauer got him to admit only that he was blushing when Taylor Swift gave him a shout-out on Saturday Night Live, and in Live’s studio. I suppose Team Edward could argue that Today simply figured out a better place to put their microphones this a.m., and that the audience fed off of Regis Philbin’s clear bias: “You see, I would always rather be a werewolf than a vampire. Love the werewolf. The full moon comes out, and all of the sudden your clothes pop off, and there you are, baby.”

Pattinson, however, proved he’s still The Man during a pre-taped interview with Ellen DeGeneres that aired today. He had to wait more than a minute for the screams to die down. This was Pattinson at his most relaxed, sharing stories about crazy fans: A woman handed her baby to a production assistant on the set of the first film so it could be taken to the cast and photographed with them; A woman at a signing asked him what she could do to capture his attention and, since he was bored, he suggested she take off her clothes — which she began doing until security escorted her out. He shot down a press report that quoted him saying he was proud of his abs. It’s something he would never say…until he saw New Moon on the big screen. “That’s the first time I’ve ever been proud of my physical appearance in my entire life,” he admitted. He laughed when Ellen showed baby pictures (blond!) and shots from his early modeling days. (“I didn’t realize you could show that one on daytime TV,” he said of an artistic crotch shot.) He also told Ellen that he wants a house in L.A., but isn’t sure how you look for one in a secret location when the paparazzi follows you. She offered to house hunt for him, and meant it. She should definitely film that escapade.

  • katieg

    • teamEdward

Luv the promo of WhatDrivesEdward. Robert looks gorgeous!

  • emily

I loved all of Rob’s interviews. The Kristen and Lautner ones are boring.

  • tess

I think Taylor has picked up a lot of new fans, I’m sure he is the IT boy now for the teens and tweens. For me though, Rob is the one. Looking forward to seeing him outside this whole Twilight bubble

    • Lola

Its all about Robert for me and a whole lot of other admirers that don’t post. Believe me I’ve seen and heard them. I’m also looking forward to seeing Robert when his next film comes out next year. Remember Me has nothing to do with the Twilight series and the promo I saw already has me hyped.

  • Laura

Rob will always be number one, he’s a joy to watch and he is hilerious in his interviews. Taylor may gain some new fans but they’re the young fans where a six pack is a tick in their diary.

    TEAM ROB FOREVER

    TAYLOR EWWWWWWWWWWWW

    • Claire

      TEAM ROBERT ALWAYS! exactly.

  • anon

Taylor was out on the plaza on a friday morning right after MN showings when girls were probably going to take off of school anyways and show up no matter who was scheduled to appear.

  • Alyssa

Amongst young girls maybe. But women love Robert Pattinson!

    • PattzLady

I can atest to that. I think Robert is increduably attractive and I haven’t felt like that in a long time.

    • Cindy

I couldn’t agree more! Robert definitely attracts women!!!!! I am in my 30s and he certainly attracts me! He is the man of the movie!!!!

  • Chris

I love all of Rob’s interviews. He is outstanding. Ellen was great and so was Letterman but so was Today. It’s really hard to choose. I loved his ET and accesshollywood interviews too. His Entertainment Weekly interview wiht Kristen and Taylor were awesome too. He’s just really good. I think a reason Twilight did so well initially and has kept the fanbase growing is because he’s extremely charming. I know Twilight would have done well in 2008 but I don’t think it would have done as well without Pattinson. I think it’s just a fact. I like that Taylor is riding on Robert’s coattails now and doing well. Taylor’s pretty awesome too. I think when Taylor is 20 I’m going to really like him. He’s such a sweet kid now.

  • Bree

I don’t think so. Everyone is just over excited because of his muscles, it’s quite shallow and lame actually. Robert doesn’t need to take his shirt off to get a scream.

    • rocy

      soo true…

    • anonymous

      You got that right Bree.

    • bluetwilight

      totally agree…

  • Monica

Robert Pattinson will always be #1! Team Edward all the way.

  • Ruby

Well as a 26 year old woman, I can appreciate Taylor cuz he’s cute and everyone likes a nice bod…but I’m partial to pretty British boys in general so Rob’s my type already. He photographs weird sometimes, but he’s been looking good for New Moon’s press. Hate the movies and the amount of press they’re getting…but I was a fan of Rob in Goblet of Fire so I was sold then.

  • Twilight&Rob

just saw new moon. it was amazing!! i love rob!!!!! go see new moon NOW! it is soooo good!

    • Pattinsongirl

Rob is the main reason to see New Moon. Unfortunately you have to sit through Jacob and the fleebags but seeing Robert ( Edward ) is worth it.

  • rocknmovies

I have just seen NM. And while TL does a decent job, he has no charisma, he can’t smolder. Okay he’s got an OTT 12-packs, but the face, no thank you.
Best part of the movie was the end in Italy, all the wolves bit was way too long, and the wolves as humans are so blah. There was some applause in the cinema when the phone rings…
Anyway we get to see the happy trail… enough said.
I have not changed my mind, still don’t like Taytay and still love Rob.
I prefered Twilight by a long shot.

    • Patty

      Wow! You are so….
1st…New Moon is way better than Twilight…Twilight was a joke compared to New Moon.
2nd…Taylor face is a whole lot better than Robert’s. He looks like someone punched him in the face one to many times…
      3rd…you’re just dumb!
Answer this question please. Have you even read the books. How can you say “all the wolves bit was way too long”? Hello! That’s what the New Moon was about. Please think before you speak. PLEASE!!

      • SC

This is exactly why I say all taylor fans are stupid teens who have never seen real abs in their lives! I agree 100% with rocknmovies!

    • anonymous

Your review was on the money. I enjoy NM but I prefer Twilight cuz theres a whole lot more of Edward and not much of the pup.

      • Cindy

Oh yeah!!!!! and the rest of the movies will have more Edward in them!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • TE

I must have seen NM at the same theatre as you cuz I was one of those people clapping cuz when the phone rings you know it’s EDWARD time!

      • Cindy

I Couldn’t agree more!!!!! I was on the edge of my seat when that phone rang!!!!!! I love the whole movie even the wolf parts…..that’s what makes it so GREAT and if you’ve read the books we all know how that turns out and Edward is the man of the story!!!!!!

    • Laurie

Totally agree. Liked NM, but the movie dragged when Rob was gone (yes, I know – the book dragged for me too!). Felt the Edward/Bella reunion was too rushed and too much time was spent on Jacob/Bella. I get why, just sayin’. Taylor did better than I expected, but the constant shirtlessness was comical after awhile. His nose on the big screen – especially digital – was just way too big. And his voice is still whiny. Rob has charisma to spare and will always be #1 for me. Can’t wait for Remember Me. Loved the trailer. Love Rob’s interviews, too. Not boring (cough.Taylor.cough), funny and interesting.

  • E/B

I love Rob he has a great personality and he is multi talented! Favorite interview was him with Ellen, he is always so funny. I think he has charisma, I just love to when he is on the big screen, I love his voice too!
