Don’t worry, How I Met Your Mother fans: There will be slaps. Not only will the series’ Nov. 23 Thanksgiving episode feature a guest star — Chris Elliott (pictured), as Lily’s estranged dad — but also the long-awaited fourth slap in Marshall and Barney’s Slap Bet. (The Bet’s hardly over though — Barney’s still anticipating one more strike!) “There’s a little bit of a twist on the slap this year,” says executive producer Carter Bays. “The Slap Bet commissioner makes an interesting ruling that I can’t reveal.” What Bays can reveal is why they invited Chris Elliott in on the fun. “He’s a hero of mine,” he says. “We realized we hadn’t ever met Lily’s dad, and I felt like, at this point, why haven’t we met him?” We bet Barney will wish he never had.

Another memorable Thanksgiving episode is exactly what the show needs to get back on track this year. LOVE the Slap Bet!
I dunno, I think “The Playbook” set things pretty right.
“The Playbook” was probably the best episode of the series.

Mother is one of the few shows this season that is doing awesome for it’s 5 season. Did you see double date?! Never laughed harder in my life.
I agree with defeel. The show has been awesome all season! Kinda wish Barney and Robin were still together, even if just for a little while longer, but I’ve loved the season so far!!! Another Slapsgiving is the icing on the cake!!!
The Slap Bet and all that it entails is GENIUS! Pure, unadulterated GENIUS! I wish I’d have thought of it.
The guide on my cable spoils what the Slap Bet Commissioner will do. Or least what I assume she will do. Kind of takes the fun out of it.
YAY! I’m a huge slapsgiving fan. My favorite Barney slap is no question when Barney is dressed as a robot and doing his one man show and he starts dancing…Marshall just gets up without hesitation and whacks him. Lmao.
I think I love all of the slaps. I love the slap bet storyline. In my opinion it is one of the best storylines this show has ever had. Barney’s one man show and Swarley were also some fav moments of mine.
And of course who could forget the classic song: You just got slapped

I kind of wish they hadn’t told us a slap was coming. I like being just as surprised as Barney when he gets hit.

Don’t worry, I have a feeling there’s more to this than we think. I bet the Slap in question isn’t even part of the original tally and we still get a beautifully unexpected one down the road.
