Clip du jour: The 100 best lines from 'The Wire'

Every fifth word here is NSFW, but this compilation is too awesome not to post. These are (among the) 100 greatest quotes from The Wire. It also spoils the entire series, roughly, so if you hate curse words/haven’t seen The Wire, this isn’t for you.

Okay, PopWatcher Wire fans: Did this video include your favorite line?

    I miss this show!

  • KevinG

My favorite is in Season 1 Ep4 when they are all trying to get the desk in the door :)

  • Sean

One of the greatest scenes in the entire series was the season one crime scene examination, where Bunk and McNulty assessed the situation using only the “F” word… but to include that would have taken up about five of the 10 minutes of the YouTube clip. Great compilation, though, and it makes me want to re-watch the entire run!

    • Jay

That’s the scene I use to sell anyone I meet on this show. *Sigh* I miss McNulty, Bunk, Davis, Marlo, Omar…

    • RubyBaby

Agree, Sean. It’s the stand-out for me too. Just shows what a little bit a dialogue but a whole barrel-ful of acting skill can do. Awesome scene. And Jay, I miss them all too…but particularly Stringer Bell.

    • HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

      PERFECTION!

    Sheeeeeet. classic

  • LisaB

My favorite quote that was excluded is “The Bunk don’t swim,” from Season 2. (I think — it’s when McNulty and Bunk go out into the bay on a boat so they can pick up recordings of Spiro talking to The Greek on his cell phone.)

But that is masterful editing on “Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeyit.”

  • TBenz

Another Omar line from the scene where he robs the card game, “You got me confused with a man who repeats himself.” And after Slim Charles says “That was for Joe,” the old guy goes “This sentimental m*therf*cker just cost us money.”

“What the fuuck did I do?!”

  • slacker editor

I was sad not to see my favorite line/moment ever on television: The little kids running through the street yelling “Omar comin’! Omar comin’!” as everyone’s favorite bad-guy-with-a-code headed to the deli for some cheerios.

  • Malaika

    Man I loved that show.

  • Madd

I wish this show was still on! I also had a crush on Dominic West.

  • Josh

Yeah, I missed the f-word scene as well. But thanks you Youtube, here it is:

    • Madd

      This is brilliant!

    • Jay

      Great job for finding this!

    • RubyBaby

Thanks, Josh, for putting this up.

    • stardestroyer

      Thanks Josh!

  • LP

I should be ashamed to admit this but two lines I cannot forget that crack me up whenever I think about them came from Snoop. Sitting on the corner while police search the SUV when asked what u thinking abt and she replies “p*ssy” and before she meet her death “how my hair look?” I so miss this show I almost want to cry. It was brilliant.

  • Lindsay

I miss this show too! After the “f” scene, the second best for me, is also in Season One, when D’Angelo explains chess. I’ve converted many fans on those two scenes alone.

    • Alex

The “f” word and the chess game scenes from Season 1 was also how I got so many people converted to this show.
Masterful editing getting these 100 quotes in the video, but really, it’s just the tip of the iceberg with The Wire.
Now I seriously want to go back and re-watch the entire series.
      “Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeyit”

  • laylagalise

Oh, I miss Bunk, Cool Lester Smooth, Omar, Batman & Robin, Prezbo, Bubs, and McNutty so much. I can’t wait to see ‘Treme.’
