As we all learned at some point in our lives: “Secrets, secrets are no fun; secrets are for everyone” and last night’s episode of 90210 took that mantra and rolled with it, unveiling some, but not all of everyone’s secrets to those closest to them. The secrets might not have been fun for them, but it certainly made for juicy drama for us. I’ll take you through the tangled web that West Bev weaves since your regular recapper, Jennifer, had the night off.
The meat of the episode focused on the creepy trainwreck-to-be relationship that is Annie and Jasper. The couple, who now sleep at each other’s homes—on a weeknight!—are pretty much head over heels in love with each other, which, as anyone who has graduated from high school will tell you, isn’t love but infatuation. And with it came one of the bigger proclamations of so-called “love”—meeting the parents. Except Jasper’s meet-and-greet with the Wilsons was doomed from the get-go because Dixon had blurted out that Annie’s new boyfriend was a drug dealer. Mom and Pops Wilson were clearly perturbed, making for pretty awkward appetizer conversation that even Deb’s famous dip couldn’t save.
But Jasper has perfected his I’m-not-a-drug-dealer speech so well that he temporarily put their worries to rest just in time for the mahi mahi. I say temporarily because post-dinner, Annie’s parents told her to stop seeing Jasper. This obviously led to a typical teenage-angst outcry (“You don’t even know who I am anymore!”), which I must say, Shenae Grimes does very well. The Wilsons were right though. Annie is a completely different person around Jasper and I’m just counting down the episodes until he finally reveals his secret to Annie, probably when he almost kills her.
Besides the Annie-Jasper story, we were treated to a Naomi-heavy episode as well. Yay! I am loving AnnaLynne McCord this season. After Richard and his mother (a.k.a. the dean of CU) walked in on Jamie and Naomi mid-makeout, an anxiety-ridden Naomi had to divulge her ulterior motive for dating Richard. Jamie, disgusted by Naomi’s dishonesty, dumped her. Dumped by a college and a college boyfriend on the same day? That’s got to be the worst day in a high schooler’s life. Still, when Jamie came crawling back, admitting that he’s falling for her (what guy says “falling” by the way?), Naomi made sure not to keep anymore secrets between the two of them, so she told Jamie that she still had feelings for Liam. OK, the whole nursing Liam back to health thing was kind of cheesy, but if it means we can get Jen out of this weird sibling sex triangle, fine by me.
But Naomi was on the other side of things when Adrianna lied that she wasn’t using anymore. I kind of wanted to smack Aid in the face for lying through her teeth, but the revenge came when Naomi found her pills. It’s kind of sad that Naomi would dismiss her drug-addled friend, saying she’s “over it,” but in high school, where betrayal can be a four-letter word, I’m none too surprised that Naomi just didn’t want to deal with Aid’s problems anymore.
Now I can count on only Navid to pull Aid out of this drug mess, but Navid will be out of commission for a bit thanks to Jasper, who pushed Navid down the stairs for starting the “rumor” that he’s a drug dealer and thus ruining his relationship with Annie. I actually thought Jasper might pull a knife on Navid, seeing as how he has proven to be so nimble with them in the past. The stairs aren’t any better, but it’s just the beginning of Jasper wreaking havoc on Navid’s life. Jasper, he’s just trying to save Aid! Leave him alone! Speaking of Aid, if she was actually hepped up on drugs, she deserves a medal for avoiding the bleary-eyed look with that Sephora ad-style eye makeup. Kudos also for doing homework in bed while taking drugs. I’m not sure how that works, but Aid must be a pro.
In the much less exciting storyline, we sifted through the secrets that have been harboring Jen, including everything but her dangerous liason with Liam. For a second, while the acoustic update of Oasis’ “Wonderwall” was playing, I thought she was going to reveal the tryst, but then I realized that Jen would never do that. She also would never have a change of heart that involved pitching a tent and building a fire (with The New York Times Sunday Styles section no less!). I truly don’t understand what Ryan sees in her.
And after Jackie’s cardiac arrest last week, she survived long enough for Kelly to realize that she did, in fact, need to reach out to her mom. This is when I realized when the non-teen actors can be useful on this show. The adults know how to portray emotion with way more range than the youngins’ ever could. Kelly’s forgiveness wasn’t so much a secret as it was a supressed desire, but when she finally did forgive Jackie, it was a really touching moment. To cap off a heartwarming episode, both Kelly and Silver lay at their mother’s side when she passed. I’m sad to see Jackie go, but Silver’s loss probably means she and Teddy will get only closer, which means Aid will use more, which means a hobbling Navid will continue his attempt to unveil the truth about Jasper, which means…oh, let’s just wait until next week, shall we?
What did you guys think of the episode? Do you think the Jen-Liam drama will finally get resolved next week? And just how disturbed by Jasper are you?

Where in the world was Teddy this week???
He was at the doctor’s office getting his botox injections while his assistant was picking up his forged birth certificate.
This much is true.
Or at Denny’s for the earlybird special for senior citizens.
It’s ‘Ade’ not Aid as in to help or assit someone…’Ade’ is the short form for Adrianna. It was a weekend so Teddy being M.I.A not big deal…can’t wait for Jen comeuppance
Mark, totally agree..she’s WiCKED hot. The foolish thing is that a woman like that would date a dorky teacher? PLEASE!
Glad somebody else noticed it, it’s “ADE”, Archana!
NAOMI/LIAM/ROOMMATES: It was the Clarke sisters confession last night. I was glad to see that Naomi couldn’t just move on after what she did to Granola Boy (who is hotter than the blond one btw). And she finally faced the truth, I mean, Liam is THE bomb, girl!
ANNIE/JASPER: “So Annie are you OK? Are you okay Annie?” No way, she’s crazy! I love those two weirdos! Jasper needs to stay on the show! Great improvement of Shenae’s character, kudos!
ADRIANNA/NAVID: Girl is getting on my last nerve. I really hope Navid will give her a slap as a wake up call, dammit! I taught Jasper would stab Navid like Dixon said when they were removing stuff.
DIXON/ POP AND MOM WILSON: I really enjoy the fact they are no longer the close to perfect Walsh 2.0 family. I especially love the parents Wilson those days. “Dirty Deets, anyone?
SILVER/KELLY: I agree with Archana, Kel’s goodbye to Mama Silver was heartbreaking. I mean, I’ll miss seeing “Ann Gillepsie” in the opening credits, like in the good old days. Too bad we won’t see David Silver for the funeral…
RYAN/JEN: I can’t stand the girl but I adore the sexy teacher. I loved their scenes, I mean, I’m quite their age on the show and I appreciated that the writers cared to show their attempt to build a serious relationship. I wish CW would produce more shows about young adults and not just high schoolers.
Solid stuff!
i think it’s a pun, like “Aid” needs “aid” with her all her problems. I think it’s funny.
Isn’t it obvious what Ryan sees in Jen? The woman is drop-dead gorgeous! And a little crazy! The perfect combination in a woman. The real question is what does Jen sees in Ryan? The guy is a bore.
She’s not that pretty and her voice and tone are ridiculously annoying.
She talks all snobbest and better-than-everyone like Naomi does sometimes. Hey, they’re sisters, they have to sound alike! Jen was rubbing off on me this episode only because she took down her barriers and was the real Jen and not the fake Jen who needs to lie to get what she wants
As someone who watched the original 90210 and seen all the things Jackie did to Kelly, that was a very satisfying storyline. But where is Mel? But I was VERY disappointed to hear Annie’s parents call Jasper weird. Just because he’s a loner and doesn’t have friends at West Bev doesn’t mean he’s weird. He made a friend in Annie so he’s not that weird. After that text, I can see why Annie would be a loner. I just hated the parents saying that. They should have tried to encourage him to be more outgoing. Still loved him pushes Navid. I like the character of Jasper. He and Annie are so cute. Especially her principal dad. I didn’t care about that teacher who never shaves and frog lips. I did like everyone trying to come up with a plan to get even with Jen. I LOVED that Liam and Naomi scene. It was cute.
I was thinking the exact same thing during the hospital scene!
All I could think about was the BH 90210 fashion show when Jackie was the emcee and she was all coked out and embarassed Kelly.
This moment was definetly for the old-school 90210′ers, and was very touching.
I thought of that too! I wrote my post below before I even read yours. What an unforgettable introduction to Jackie – Kelly was so embarrassed.
“But I was VERY disappointed to hear Annie’s parents call Jasper weird. Just because he’s a loner and doesn’t have friends at West Bev doesn’t mean he’s weird. He made a friend in Annie so he’s not that weird. After that text, I can see why Annie would be a loner. I just hated the parents saying that. ” — I agree. Despite Jasper’s dark side, it was poor form to jump on him for being a loner and ‘outcast’. But then again, look at the parents. No doubt they were part of the ‘in crowd’ when they were roaming the high school halls.
I agree with you on 2 points. Firstly, it was touching for those of us “Original 90210″ viewers to see Jackie’s death. It made me think of her first episode, way back in season 1, when she showed up drunk at Kelly & Brenda’s fashion show. Secondly, I agree that Mel’s absence is horrible. Why wouldn’t he be with his daughter Silver during this time that she is hurting. Where has he been all of these years? It’s a big gaping hole in the storyline.
I understand why the parents said Jasper is odd and don’t want Annie to see him anymore. It was obvious that he is partly responsible for some negative attitude changes in her and that he seems to be controlling her a bit – i.e. telling her how to feel and what to think. I would be very concerned if I saw that dynamic happening with my daughter. Give the parents credit for being a better judge of character than their confused and emotionally vulnerable/immature teenager.
Jasper is a crazy, and possibly homicidal, drug dealer. Not exactly a guy who would be half of “a cute couple”. Annie needs to get away from him.
isn’t Ryan rich? like his family is rich. does Jen know that? she likes money.
Great episode. Who knew the day would come when I yearn more for “90210″ than “Gossip Girl”? OMWord!
Jen needs to go…pronto! Can not stand the chick. She needs to be outed as soon as possible.

I like Jasper as well. I’ll be sad when his storyline ends.
Having lost my own mother 7 years ago (who was not a recovering drug addict/alcoholic btw), the scenes with Kelly and Silver at Jackie’s bedside just about did me in. They were well written and beautifully acted.
Um…didn’t Kelly have a son last season? Where was he when she was sitting in the hospital constantly? Did Jackie even mention him when she was telling Kelly what a good mother she was to Silver? Are the writers trying to pretend now that Kelly doesn’t have a kid or something? Or are we doing like Friends did and pretending that people with children can just go whatever they want all the time without worrying about caring for their children?
I believe they addressed Kelly’s kid staying with Dylan for a while at the beginning of this season. Thus no kid to worry about each episode.
I was wondering about Kelly’s son too. He did go stay with his dad, last season, and it was only suppose to be for a few weeks. At least in Friends, Ross’ exwife and her lover had the kid most of the time. It does seem like they are trying to ignore that story line from last season, especially without having Jackie say Kelly was a good mother to Silver. And don’t you think Mel, David, and even Donna would have at least gotten a call about what was going on with Jackie?
I thought the same thing. It is like they needed Kelly’s son around the first few episodes to cash in on the who’s the daddy storyline and we haven’t really seen him again.
right, how does no one from the original get noticed about Kelly’s mom dying. David at least would be there, so would the Walsh’s, Nat, Steve etc. CW should get rid of this awful remake. The regular characters are terrible, and the ones they bring back from the original, their stories make no sense.
The biggest absence is Mel Silver. David, maybe, but where is Silver’s father. Is he dead???
In the case of David, Donna, and all four Walshes, when people are in other countries for work and other commitments, sometimes they unfortuantely can’t be there to support loved ones with weddings, funerals, etc. It happens in real life, it can happen in a tv show.
And Kelly’s mom did ruin the fashion show but if anyone saw any episode after the first season would know that Jackie was there for Kelly, through college and Kelly’s coke situation.
I was loner but not an outcast in high school. I think that the parents were trying to use that as an excuse to get Annie to see Jasper. I think the real problem is they see how dependent Annie is on Jasper which can be problem in high school. Jasper can manipulate Annie to do certain stuff that she would not normally do like steal a car. The Annie with morals and principals would have never done that.
I completely agree with you. I don’t think her parents didn’t want Annie to see Jasper because he is a loner, as much as they see the control he has over her. There was a very pointed moment regarding this control when he told her they didn’t need anyone else. That exchange must be worrisome for parents to witness…
that’s how i read the situation too.
Seriously, where was Teddy? I thought for sure he would come back and sit with Silver in the hospital. I thought the same about Mel and David. And at the end of 90210 1.0, Kelly and Jackie got along very well so I did not appreciate it when Kelly made a point to tell Silver about the nose job and diet pills.
Maybe I’m remembering the original 90210 wrong. Wasn’t Jackie only using drugs up until halfway through the first season? She got high at the fashion show and then she got clean and was clean through the rest of the series and was kind of a voice of reason for Kelly at times. I’m confused about when she fell off the wagon.
AC, you’re right. Jackie used in season 1 of BH90210 and season 1 only. From the next 9 years, she was a devoted mom to both Kelly and Erin (Silver). This new show decided to change that and made Jackie appear to be a lifelong addict who was a terrible MIA mother.
And the BS we got tonight about Kelly having issues with her mom making her do diet pills and get a nose job, etc. were all things addressed and resolved on the original show. (For the record, Kelly did diet pills without her mom knowing and she begged her mom for the nose job.) These are just some of the many flat-out mistakes or redundancies this show has done in terms of the original cast.
Many of the above posters commented about Mel, David, etc. being MIA and they are completely right. We shouldn’t be surprised that none of them were there because it’s show-actor issues that are preventing that We’d be better off this show had nothing to do with the originals at all because they can’t do it right.
Kelly comments several times through the original series that her mom made plenty of comments about her weight which turned her to the diet pills & according to Kelly in the original series her mom was strung out & coked up through out her childhood. I guess it’s implied that she started up again after Mel got caught with that hooker/stripper towards the end of the original series.
I think the Jackie we saw throughout most of BH90210 was the clean & sober version, but we were all left to understand that she hadn’t been the best mother to Kelly growing up. So apparently she straightened up for a while, and then fell off the wagon again while Silver was growing up. Not too extreme, addicts can go back & forth all the time.
I don’t remember any other Jackie episodes from season 1 except for the fashion show disaster. I think she only cleaned up later on when she married Mel (I think that was season 2 or 3), and she stayed clean for a while when Erin (Silver) was born, but she seems to have fallen off the wagon some time after Silver was born, which would be one of the later seasons of the original 90210.
She waan’t a bad mom, but she was very critical of things Kelly did. Remember when she didn’t want her in the mother daughter photo shoot because she didn’t want people thinking Kelly was Silver’s mom and she was the grandma? She talked other times about how she struggled with sobriety so it is possible she would have fallen off the wagon and could have done a lot to Kelly in the 8 years between the 2 shows. She wasn’t very nice to her about being a single mother last year
Loved this episode! Its obvious that Annie is relying way to much on Jasper and that he is in a way controlling her. Cant wait to see how that all works out! I wish Dixon and Annie would work things out though.. Dont like the bro/sis hating that is going on! Love Liam! Love Anna lynn mccord! She had a fantastic episode!
#1. OH NOES NADVID’S DEAD!
#2. I totally missed Liam’s A-team this week. High-high hopes about next.
#3. Speaking of next, am I the only one who thought the silly, honky-tonk preview following the episode sort of took away from the somber mood following Navid’s ninja attack and the death of Silver’s mother?
#4. On the subject of Silver’s mother, I actually love how that was portrayed. Exceeded mucho expectations, and succeeded in creating a very personal, emotional moment. Thumbs up there.
#5. I love Annalynne this season after hating her the first, but thought her last night’s storyline was awfully dull. Same for Jen. I hope the A-Team just lure her into a dark alley, dispose of the body and do away with her once and for all.
Overall a lovely episode, and has me really excited about the rest of the season. Annie’s so getting hers with Jasper. I hope she shrivels up and dies of loneliness when his secret’s finally revealed.
What is wrong with you. Annie is the victim in all of this. Let us not forget her new moody persona is because of Naomi did to her at the party last year, and because she could of killed somebody. Dont get me wrong I love Naomi now that I see she has a heart but not aclue. But for you to say Annie should die, that’s crazy.
P.S: Adrianna can curl up and die with Annie and Jen. I hatehatehate how she’s abusing her friends and lying. Seriously: She lied straight to Navid’s face. Who DOES that? I cannot wait until she hooks up with Rumer and finds something else to do for a change.
Why do you hate Annie. I get Adriana because I hate it when people lie to others to support their habits. At least she’s on pils and not on coke like she was last year. Seriously i think Adriana should continue into a downward spiral because it would be portrayed more realistically. her romance with Rumer however is going to be a big joke. Just because her character looks like a lesbian doesn’t mean you need to make her a lesbian.
