Can Heather Locklear's Amanda Woodward bring 'Melrose Place' back to pop-culture prominence?

Everyone ready for the return of Amanda Woodward? Yes, Heather Locklear is debuting on the revamped Melrose Place tonight and I can’t wait. The only tragic thing about this reboot so far (other than the acting “skills” of Ashlee Simpson and what’s-his-name who plays Auggie) is the low ratings. This show is trashy, addictive fun (and I’m  not just saying that as EW’s designated Melrose recapper) — I just wish I had more Melrose-watching friends so we could dish about Ella or laugh at Violet’s “seductive moves.” (Thank goodness I sit near Michael Slezak.)

I’m hoping with the combination of Amanda’s return and (spoiler alert) the dismissal of Auggie and Violet, more viewers might move into Melrose Place 2.0. Katie Cassidy’s Ella needs to become pop-culture fodder the same way Jane, Michael, Sydney, Billy, and Allison did during the original Melrose era. Just check out this Seinfeld clip when Jerry finally admitted he was a watcher!

Who else will be watching Amanda tonight?

Come on Amanda, you can do it! Or else they should just move Melrose Place to Mondays next to House and get rid of Lie to Me.

Move the show to FOX I mean*

  • Rion

One Tree Hill and Melrose should be paired on Mondays, and the more teen-oriented 90210 and Gossip Girl should go together on Tuesdays, or vice versa.

  • Brooke

    I. Can’t. Wait!

All fingers crossed for tomorrow when the review annd ratings come out. I’m abosoluetly sure critics will praise Heather Lopcklear…lets just hope that the viweres are up to match with tvd-4 million.. =)

  • Natalie

Rion, I’m pretty sure they put 90210 and Gossip Girl on separate nights with the hopes that teen viewers would stick around and watch Melrose and OTH after/before their show and adults vice versa.

  • Sam

    I LOVE MELROSE PLACE!

I can’t wait for this – and there is plans to have a scene reuniting Amanda, Michael, Jo and Jane – WOW – now that is amazing.

I just hope the CW will hold out and let the show find its audience -it’s the best show on TV.

Ya know, it’s fun to sit around with your friends and say “Hey, remember when…” and talk about something that was fun before, but it was more fun before. Why is it that we try to recreate moments from the not-too-distant pop culture past, stare at them relentlessly and wait for the fun and relevance to reappear? Both 90210 and Melrose were crappy and underwatched for months to years before anyone cared. I think the expectations of both mean it’ll never quite be the same type of fun.

I cant wait to watch it tonigh lol Ella is a mini-me of Amanda and Heather looks awesome the show is really good, i dont know why not that many people watch it tho. I hope once they get rid of Ashlee Simpson’s horrible acting, more people will begin to watch, i strongly believe that the show is failing so far bcause of her, people dont like her, she is such a wannabe and cant act for shit plus i dont know how she is that skinny when she just had a baby…I think she has developed an eating disorder! Anywho the show is great and Katie Cassidy is amazing and the show deserves to become a success! I just hope people watch it tonight! Come on People we need good shows like this to be on TV!!

Even if the ratings go up 1% it will be a success. The show is completely on the downward spiral. I hope they get the writing under control and give Heather Locklear something worthy of her talent to say. If it doesn’t make it. It won’t be her fault, but the fault of ridiculous scripts and bad producing. I’ll be watching ONLY because I like Heather and she looks amazing.

It;s a tough time slot on Tuesday’s. They also need to bring back Peter to be with Amanda. I Loved the two together.

In addition to my “Welcome Back Amanda” party tonight with over 50 friends, I know other Melrose parties going on tonight to welcome Heather Locklear back. No doubt, this WILL boost ratings.

Just wrap that crap off the tube. Even if the orginals appear in 1 or 2 eps, it wont survive. The original Melrose Place was something different at the time (the 90s). and something that is not very NEW today. Unless if you were born in 2000s.
