The unrated trailer for Leaves of Grass, a pot comedy (get it? GRASS.) written and directed by Tim Blake Nelson starring Edward Norton as two very different brothers — one’s an Ivy League professor, one works in, um, horticulture — didn’t actually make me laugh that hard the first time I watched it. But upon repeat viewing, I started to get it. The characters need to grow on you a bit. Nelson wrote the part with Norton in mind, and he seems to be having a high time playing the bad boy. But I still prefer my Ed Norton a bit nerdy and exasperated: “Pull the trigger. Put a bullet in my skull.” You?

Jeezus…that looked terrible. What in the heck is Susan Sarandon,Ed Norton and Richard Dreyfuss doing in this crap???
Three reasons I’ll give this a shot: Melanie Lynskey, Pruit Taylor Vince, and Steve Earle (!).
I actually think this looks promising. I’m glad they showed so much footage without actually giving too much of the story away. And anything Keri Russel is in is worth giving a shot. She’s magic. Come to think of it, so is Ed Norton.
Yay, Keri Russell! I’m in.

I was expecting a Walt Whitman biopic. Oops.
Just got to watch this at Denver Film Festival this weekend and had a great time. Ed Norton made the most of playing two extremely different characters. Tim Blake Nelson stole the movie, though.
