'The Yellow Handkerchief' trailer: Kristen Stewart comes of age

Filed under: Movies and tagged: , ,

In truth, Kristen Stewart plays about second or third banana in the trailer for The Yellow Handkerchief, an indie drama that seems more focused on William Hurt and his character’s troubled past with the woman-who-got-away (played by Maria Bello) than with the younger Stewart and costar Eddie Redmayne. I’m usually a sucker for meandering dramas like this one—which, as an added bonus, is set in post-Katrina Louisiana—but I walked away from this clip underwhelmed by the sampling of clunky dialogue. I suspect the movie is better than this trailer lets on. Thoughts?

Oh gosh… her accent. I’m from the Gulf Coast – and she is absolutely terrible. I hate bad fake Southern accents so much.

I’m thinking William Hurt is old enough to be Maria Bello’s granpa.

When does this come out? It looks great! I’m glad Kristen can show us that she can really act in somethine now! Not that she wasn’t great in Twilight… She was obviously this best one in that film!!!!! :)

Are you kidding? Kristen Stewart was horrible in Twilight! Granted, the whole movie is pretty poor and Bella is a rather personalityless and lametastic role as it is, so I can’t blame Kristen Stewart for failing there.

Who caught the signature Kristen Stewart lip bite towards the end? It’s like a drinking game now.

I know!!! It was just embarassing in Adventureland. It looks so stupid!!!

Completely underwhelmed by this preview. Does not look good at all which is a shame because I love Maria Bello.

I’m not really a Twilighter but Kristen’s a good actress. can you see Megan Fox in an indie movie like this? so she’s got some mannerisms…so does Michael Cera. George Clooney, too, for that matter. hell, DeNiro and Nicholson have been playing pretty much the same characters for 35 years.

Kristen was great in Speak, the Cake Eaters, and Adventureland. The only movie so far that I haven’t liked her in is Twilight.
I’m looking forward to the Yellow Handkerchief.

I agree. Twilight is her worst movie by far, but unfortunately is always the basis of everyone’s judgment of her.

Kristen is a spectacular actress for her age. She is young and still has a lot to learn. But I can’t see how anyone can watch The Cake Eaters and not be impressed, even if you don’t like Twilight.

This film looks really good. I love indie films, which is where Kristen shines. I am a southerner, and the accents are a little overdone, but what else is knew.

I liked the clip. I’ll be there. I like Kristen Stewart and I liked her before Twilight (Twilight actually made me shake my head in disappointment, girl can do better).

I will never, ever, ever, understand why people despise Kristen so much.

But I am glad that I support her 100%. I love her and will be laughing my a$$ off when she wins an Oscar someday. KMF!!!!

oh boy, another movie where she can play a whiny teenager. yay

They filmed scenes in an old church by my house. The church had gone under water and had been deserted. They ticked me off filming there because there was only one road to get in and out of my neighborhood and they actually had the local police there to stop us from leaving and entering when they were filming. IT got old real fast. I couldn’t imagine living in NYC where they film all the time. The inconvenience of it all – and this is not a movie I would normally go and see as it seems a little preachy and trying to teach me a life lesson, but I’ll see it just to see the church by my house (that they made look like a gas station).

Hey the person that lives by the church what town do you live in?

  • Kelsey

Is she ever going to show any range and NOT play a whiny emo teenager? I keep hearing that she can, in fact, act well, but I haven’t seen it. And I’m not just talking about Twilight — I’ve seen most of her other movies (even her weird cameo thing in Jumper) and haven’t been impressed.

It’s really sad that William Hurt and Maria Bello are the real leads of this film and are exponentially more gifted actors, and yet if it wasn’t for Kristen Stewart’s morose third-string presence, you wouldn’t be mentioning this film at all.

    • Sarah

I had the exact same thought. Kristen Stewart is not the headliner in this film.

  • sarah

I think this looks really good. Did the people saying she plays another emo teenager actually watch the trailer? I think this looks different from her other roles. Anyone who doubts she’s talented should just see Speak, in fact everyone should see it anyway because it is a really amazing movie. I can’t comment on her accent but for a Northerner she sounds believable. I am excited to see it. The Sundance reviews were good.

I agree about Speak and The Cake Eaters. Kristen is fantastic in both. Twilight is one of her weaker movies. This look OK.
