'Glee' returns tonight. And there's a diva-off. Who wants preview clips?

Categories: Glee, Television

Now that the World Series is last week’s news, Fox returns to its regularly scheduled programming, which means… new Glee! If you’d like a sneak peak at tonight’s episode, “Wheels,” check out the clip package below. What’s that? You need a little teaser about this teaser? Boy, are you demanding. Okay, it includes but is not limited to: a neat rendition of “Dancing with Myself” by Artie (who assumes the spotlight tonight), a semi-graphic off-the-record conversation between Sue and Jacob, and the build-up to a Wicked “diva-off”  between Kurt and Rachel (“We all know I’m more popular than Rachel and I dress better than her, but I want you all to promise me that you’re going to vote for whoever sings the song better”).

Let’s hear it: How many of you will be watching tonight? Any predictions on who will win the diva-off?

    I’m so excited!!!!!!!

I hope it’s Kurt! I’m getting an overdose of Lea. Altho they might do it where they both get to sing…

Just watched it and AARGH! I love this show then I hate this show. The solo still went to Rachel … because Kurt threw it? And Rachel still throws a hissy fit every time she doesn’t get the female lead. And apparently Mercedes can only sing “black” songs, according to Will. For a show about being different, why is it the attractive white guy and girl end up with most of the songs, while the others just get thrown the occasional bone?

While I hate that he threw the note, I did like the scene with his dad afterwards

I get what you’re saying about Rachel, but I will point out that Shue doesn’t handle the assignments very well: he gave Rachel’s favorite song of all time to the stutterer (forgetting her name — shame on me); he immaturely gave a lead to Quinn when Quinn was brand new as a deliberate slap in the face to Rachel; and finally he gave Defying Gravity to Rachel only to reverse course after the fact. Rachel’s overly dramatic about it, of course, but she’s right to be pissed at the way he keeps handling things.

I agree that Will is pretty insensitive about how he assigns the songs, but Rachel almost always ends up with the solos or duets or featured leads anyway. Tina (the stutterer) has only had a smidgen of a solo, while Mercedes only gets R&B (read: in Will’s words, “chocolate”) songs. For the boys, it’s just as bad — Finn gets virtually all the male leads, even though Artie and Kurt are the better singers.

This episode redeemed Sue somewhat and really added some great nuances to Kurt’s relationship with his father.

But I still wish Glee’s plot was as good as its songs. Each week I’m getting more and more exasperated with some of these ridiculous and weak storylines:

    Quinn pregnancy/Terri fake pregnancy
Rachel pining after Finn, while he’s clueless that Quinn’s lying.
Emma’s fiance knows that she loves Will and still wants to marry her.
Sue Sylvester being evil for no reason (tonight she finally seemed to have a soul).
Rachel joins Glee. Rachel leaves Glee. Rachel joins Glee. Rachel leaves Glee.
Random crap getting thrown in people’s faces

I used to like this show, but without the songs, it’s just getting boring.

Glee never stops amazing me. Each episode is so unpredictable, and makes me want to sing along. I think the show does a fabulous job alternating between focus on character types. Just when I get wrapped up on if I can see Finn and Rachael sing again, I find myself teary with Sue’s scene with her sister. I re played the defying gracity song four times. It’s hands down the best tv show in a decade.
