My favorite Sesame Street moment was Kermit and the little girl Joey saying the alphabet. “A B C D E F Cookie Monster!!!” So funny and touching at the same time.
My favorite segment was “Starship Surprise!” They would crash-land on planets called things like “The Planet H” where there were hamsters, and hens, and hula-hoops everywhere.
My family watched Star Trek when I was young and it was one of the few pop references that I picked up on.
Being a total Muppet fanatic, I recently sent my mother a Sesame Street video that parodied Dragnet. They were looking for a W, found him, and then let him go after he disguised himself as an M.
She wrote back that when I watched the skit as a little kid, the lightbulb went off in my head and I realized that that letters made sounds. The show is so amazing in all the ways it teaches and entertains – happy birthday, Sesame Street!
Not to mention I still tear up when thinking about the Christmas special when Bert and Ernie reenact “The Gift of the Magi,” and Mr. Hooper saves the day.
Watched an episode with my 2-year-old where Elmo turned to Gordon and said, “What you talkin’ ’bout Gordon?” The are so savvy. Love it!
