Jennifer Lopez betrayed me early on… after being a perfectly credible actress in Selena & Out of Sight- she decided she wanted to be a “star” and do crappy pop songs and bottom of the barrel rom-com’s… now look where her career is…
Don’t forget she was excellent in Blood and Wine with Jack Nicholson. Check it out if you haven’t seen it.
I feel the same way, I just watched Out of Sight and just ask myself “WHY?”
That is the smartest and sexiest movie ever.
She was great in “Enough,” as well. I realize people hate that movie, but I think it’s pretty good.
J. Lo in Enough was freakin fantastic!!! Def one of my fav movies.
No…nooo. If we’re sharing a name then you have to get better taste in movies.
Enough was a remake of Sleeping with the enemy! back to my post about hollywood not having original ideas…
The Cell was pretty good, too. But I think that was more of a “she just stumbled into a cool movie” situation. Her acting didn’t make the movie. Same with Jennifer Aniston in Office Space. She lucked out on that one fo sho.
I felt betrayed by Sarah Michelle Gellar for The Grudge 2. I’m not saying the first one was Casablanca, but she was good in it, it made a lot of money, and opened a lot of doors for her. Then she agrees to do a small cameo in the sequel, which wasn’t good by even bad movie standards, and I must witness her plummeting to her death. I can forgive seeing my beloved die in early career works like I Know What You… and Scream 2, but after the success of a starring vehicle, SMG should no better.
One name, one title: Jason Bateman. Extract.
cmon it wasn’t that bad. Boring, yes, but betrayal?
Id have to go with Neve Campbell. I just dont understand the strategy of her career after Scream? It was pretty much a career of bombs and horrific dvd films. Fire her agent after Wild Things.
Is her show still on???
Well…Neve Campbell was always a bad actress, imho. I loved Party of 5, but not because of her.
Lucy Liu and Antonio Banderas in Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever
I see your point, but I actually love this movie! shhhhhh
Yeah I do too! I can’t believe this movie has a 0% on RT. I’ve seen worse at 40%.
I have not felt betrayed, but I certainly have thought that original works were betrayed by their movie adaptations. In particular, two movies:
1)The Scarlett Letter…what a joke (ironically, Demi Moore was in that too)
2) The Prince of Tides…a wonderful book but a travesty of a movie.
I was sooo upset by the Scarlett Letter. COME ON Gary Oldman! That was a betrayal.
I don’t know if betrayed is the word, but when Robert Downey Jr. got himself fired from “Ally McBeal” it made me sad and angry at him.
Not only was he brilliant in that role, but it pretty much screwed up the show going into its fifth and final year.
It’s fantastic that he seems like he’s clean now, but I remember thinking that he’d gotten himself somewhat straightened out during that time period too, so I guess I WAS betrayed.
I loved Robert Downey, Jr in Ally McBeal. I stopped watching when he left the show. Sigh…
I’m glad he “ruined” that show; Ally McBeal was a flaming turd and deserved to be ashcanned sooner!
I felt betrayed by Tom Cruise after he began acting like a complete lunatic. He was my first Hollywood crush and I’d seen almost everything in which he’d appeared. He became everything that you hope your favorite celebrity ISN’T. I haven’t seen a new Tom Cruise movie since he jumped on Oprah’s couch and his old stuff just isn’t the same.
I am the same way!!! I used to love Cruise! Now I can’t stand him (after his crazed rant about psychology). I watched all his old films and his new films would be like an event for me. But, I haven’t seen a TC film since MI:3, which I begrudgingly saw on DVD. I didn’t watch War of the Worlds and I only watched Tropic Thunder b/c of RDJ and Ben Stiller. I can’t even fully enjoy Jerry Maguire on TV the way I used to. damn scientology…
I can’t jump onboard with the Cruise hate.
Yes, the psychology rant was obnoxious, but I don’t care about the Scientology nonsense or that he’s kind of weird. Personally, I think a great majority of these stars are secretly weirdos. I’m not going to begrudge them that.
Cruise was probably weird all along…he was just dumb enough that he finally let it show on Oprah.
Me too! I used to be a big Tom Cruise fan, saw all his movies, etc., but I really felt betrayed when he went to town on Brooke Shields for taking antidepressants for post-partum depression. I didn’t and still don’t care about his affiliation with Scientology, that’s his business, but he should never have attacked a woman for dealing with a health problem he’ll never experience. I’m still ticked at him over that.
When straight actors play gay for a role then go on about how uncomfortable it made them feel to kiss or touch another person of the same sex. Whatever. Now replace the same sex with a person of a different race and see if you still think it’s ok.
I see your point and agree with the absurdity of it (it comes off as immature and mildly homophobic – you’re an actor, it’s a role, get on with it). But I think the leap to kissing a different gender is greater for most people than that of a different ethnicity. The two do not equivocate.
Not the same thing dude. Sorry if it bothers you but people are allowed to be uncomfortable about stuff like that without it being all about you. Race and sexual relations are two different animals, no offense.
I was definitely betrayed by Orlando Bloom when he made the god-awful Elizabethtown after the fantastically wonderful Pirates of the Carribean. And then I was even more betrayed when I realized that he was an extremely hot guy who couldn’t act
Aww, so true! Orlando Bloom totally can’t act : (
Gotta go with Dame Judi Dench for “Chronicles of Riddick.” I have not seen the movie, and I will not see the movie. I heard her voice doing narration in the trailer when I went to see another movie, and I said to myself, “That sounds like Judi Dench,” then when they showed Vin Diesel on the screen I said to myself, “Nah, couldn’t be.” And then they showed Judi Dench. She’s an Oscar-winning actress and a Dame of the British empire – what the heck was she thinking doing a Vin Diesel movie?
The 3 new Star Wars movies — I like to pretend they don’t even exist, but my kids love them. The whole Anakin/Padme storyline was ridiculous! Those movies ruined Hayden Christensen and Natalie Portman for me! But Ewan McGregor is still one of my faves. His Obi-wan was perfect.
Not everybody got out of that franchise without a scratch. What’s Hayden Christensen done since? Take solace in that.
I don’t know, he was pretty good in “Shattered Glass,” although I can’t remember if that was pre or post “Star Wars.”
Hayden’s in Life as a House and it’s excellent! Try and not cry — I dare you!
“Shattered Glass” was post “Star Wars” and Christensen was amazing in it. He was also in “Jumper”, which I kind of enjoyed, and was recently in the all-star cast indie, “New York, I Love You”. So, he actually has done well. He is better known in the indie world now, rather than mainstream, which I think is quite an accomplishment after staring in bug-budget films.
Not just the 3 new ones, but his “retooling” of the original 3 movies. I was so exited to see them–”Wow! Director cuts!” Then so very disappointed in how he changed them around.
The first three Star Wars films had to be made, ok they weren’t great but they still told the story, not great acting but the Anakin/Padme story had to be told cos they are Luke and Leah’s parents, it also had to be shown how Anakin became Darth Vader and was put into the suit
Not an actor but by Michael Crichton (yes, I know he is dead.) His books are phenomenal and then the movie version sucks big time. I know he didn’t do the screenplay but surely when he sells the rights he sees the screenplay – how could he let them do that to his books? Why? WHY?
Jurassic Park the movie was better than the book
But all the subsequent Jurassic Park movies were terrible! I love Michael Crichton’s fiction, but have you guys ever read his nonfiction? He’s another one riding the crazy train.
Agreed. “Timeline” was the worst offender.
I guess the closest one would be Kate Hudson. I loved her so much in Almost Famous and even 200 Cigarettes, so now that she takes the easy schlock, it is kind of disappointing. I don’t know that I would say BETRAYED though.
Even “How to Lose a Guy In 10 Days” wasn’t bad. But yeah, she’s been in a LOT of crappy stuff lately.
The problem with Kate Hudson now is that she seems like a really annoying person, and she is definitely more looked at as a tabloid fixture than an actual movie actor/star. Perhaps ‘Nine” will change that perception.
No it won’t; Kate Choadson still sucks!
Anthony Hopkins in Hannibal. The whole movie was a mess but he was the one carry over (major character) from Silence of the Lambs, arguably one of the greatest films of all time. He should not have allowed Hannibal Lecter to go from diabolical, methodical, psychotic to a typical slasher film character in the likeness of Jason or Freddy.
