Sometimes it’s hard to be a celebrity. November 2009 is one of them. Chances are, stars will, at some point this month, be asked if they’re on Team Edward or Team Jacob. I myself asked The Vampire Diaries’ Ian Somerhalder to enter the debate recently during a Pop Culture Personality Test interview (so totally legit line of questioning!), and having never read the books or seen the first film, he was unable to choose a side. I can appreciate that someone wouldn’t want to judge what he or she has not seen, however fluffy that something is, but if I were a publicist, I’d be telling my clients to have an answer at the ready regardless. You’ll get ink even if you’re undecided: “Edward Cullen — I would write a love song to him,” Demi Lovato told MTV News, before adding, “Or Jacob Black!” (Ditto, if you’re arguably the least popular Backstreet Boy: AJ McLean is Team Edward. I like him more now for playing.)
It’s also important that you, PopWatch readers, answer the question in the poll below. We want to see if Team Jacob gains members after The Twilight Saga: New Moon hits theaters, and to do that, we need you to vote before the Nov. 20 release, and after (look for a second poll after opening weekend). Shameless absolutely shameless. I try so hard to stay away from this debate because it only breeds hatred in a book series which is just supposed to be fun. On my mark three…two…one the bashing will commence as Team Edward and Team Jacob fans alike hurl insults at each other. I’ve never understood why people can’t seem to just agree to love the books and leave the fighting alone.
I’m with you. I am more of the vamp side myself. But both characters are crucial to the overall storyline and both are important to Bella. In real life, both actors are very good looking, sweet, down to earth, and adore their fans. So, I will never truly get the fixation with having to choose. Because it started out as something fun and light hearded, and now it is all serious and vicious. Go Team Switzerland.

Most Team Jacob members are always pointing out that they feel sorry for him. Seriously, is this how you choose your men? Anyway, Jacob was really, really sweet in the movie but it was still clear even with an hour’s movie time to work with that he’s no Edward in terms of screen presence. He has a great bod though. I’m glad he worked for it.

AJ was nv the least popular one.. so dumb la.. he is almost as popular as nick carter the heartthrob.. though my fav is brian.. and recently maybe AJ too.. howie.. is one of the least popular one.. but i tink most not popular one is kevin.. but now he is no longer in the band.. he seemed to be more popular.. among bsb fans..

When I read NM, I was Team Jacob. Then I read Eclipse and was Team Edward. Then I read Breaking Dawn and I was (an still am) Team Bella Should Have Said Frak You, Moved Away and Lived a Normal Life.

You clearly don’t know the definition of pedophilia. Its someone sexually attracted to a person who hasn’t gone through puberty. You know, like Jacob who imprints on a baby? Not like two people who both physically are the same age in E/B.
In Jacob’s defense, imprinting does not mean sexually attracted. As he explained it, it means when their partner is young they will be their bestfriend until they are one day together.
In the U.S…with the exception of the state of Virgina, carnal knowledge of someone under the age of 17 is grounds of statutory rape. So…while Bella and edward were not exactly getting it on, they were certainly in Pedophile territory. Just because he’s stuck int he body of a gorgeous 17 year old doesn’t change the fact that he’s lived a few generations and for all intents and purposes is a man. Jacobs imprinting sugeests a devotion void of sexual intent. They’re two very different things. I’m not sure how much age matters in Stephanie Meyers world.

That’s great that you are able to do that. I wished that all Twilight fans were. Some take it way too far and get testy and touchy about it. We should love all the characters equally, as the cast members. Just my opinion.
No I am not saying that you can’t have a team. I am Team Edward however some people do just want to insult the other side. They call Jacob a pedophile, say that Edward is ugly, call Jacob a jerk or say that Edward is gay.
I’m not saying that you can be on a team and not love the books. As stated I have always been a Edward and BElla fan, however I do love Jacob. I think he is sweet and kind and it hurt my heart to see him so sad, even though I never really wanted Bella to be with him I still wanted him to be happy.

Do people still read this stuff? I tried reading the first book and after thirty pages or so I felt like my brain had been numbed with novacaine. The only decent *current* vampires in books or on television are the Stackhouse/Tru-Blood vampires.
Oh I love Charlaine Harris. I have read all the Sookie Stackhouse Novels & now I’m starting the short stories. Also, I can’t wait for her new Sookie Novel (May 2010), but I love the Twilight books. I don’t think ppl are still reading the books though. I finished them over a year ago. Now I’m just watching & waiting for the movies, to compare them to the book & my imagination (see if I pictured things the way the director (ECT…) does) I’m glad Sookie Novels r being notice by Meyer’s fans!!!!

While I respect all opinions, I don’t understand by Book 3 why anyone would think Jacob had a chance. If you’re movie-only, I could you being on the fence. However, even with only the first book/movie setup, I don’t think poor Jacob had a prayer.
I agree. I think people make more of the supposed love triangle than there really was. Bella and Jacob were never a couple. The series has ended and we already know who Bella ended up with, so what’s the point of these teams?

There are some entertainment writers who are legitimate journalists (a few even work for EW). Most of them, I’ve found, are little better than TMZ/tabloid hounds.
And I say this as a professional, working journalist.
It’s a bit of silliness during an entertainment interview during the month of what is sure to be a big movie. I’d think it’s almost part of the job to atleast ask. I don’t think even the interviewer would see this as seriously debatable.
I’m a die hard Twilight Fan!!! While reading the books I went from Edward to Jacob back to Edward. Bella & Edward just go together. As for Jacob, he’ll always be a part of Bella’s life; even if it’s not what (just the Movie buff’s) want. For those of us who have read the books, we know how the story ends & I just for one, hope that New Moon meets the books potential. I was slightly disappinted in Twilight, but I’m looking forward to each moment of the movies. Go TEAM EDWARD!!! :}

I didn’t like the way Jacob acted in “Eclipse”. That’s what totally turned me off about the character…As for celebrities being asked to choose a side, I don’t think it’s necessary. No one’s going to burn someone at the stake if they haven’t watched “Twilight” or read the books. They should just reply honestly.
Obviously Edward has an insane number of fans, compared to Jacob.
I’m not saying that Jacob doesn’t have fans (he does), but there’s no question as to who the VAST majority of this fanbase loves.

I hate how people give edward so much crap for leaving (which he did cause he LOVES her and wanted her to have a NORMAL LIFE), but never mention that JACOB HAS left too.
He doesn’t talk to Bella when he first turns to a wolf, He leaves bella at the end of NM, and he leaves at the end of eclipse.

The only difference is, when Jacob leaves, he leaves cause HE can’t take being around her, whereas Edward leaves so that Bella can be safe and happy.

Meyer had to abruptly turn Jacob into a jerk in Eclipse, lest people continue to realize that he’s actually a better character than Edward. It was like a light bulb went off in her head, and she thought, “Wait, people are rooting for Jacob, I can’t have that! I’ll just turn him into a giant d-bag.”
Honestly though, seeing as the books are over and it’s a FACT that Bella ends up with Edward, I don’t know why the debate keeps getting dragged up. It’s as annoying as hearing people say that Harry and Hermione “were meant to be.”

I saw Jacob’s forced kiss as more of an act of desperation than something intentionally horrible. I always felt bad for him, because Bella really did treat him like crap and he was so young. He really didn’t get it.

Read her interviews, when asked about each character’s mistakes and flaws in Eclipse, she says Edward’s flaw is this, Bella’s flaw is this, Jacob… HAS NO FLAWS. If you thought he turned into a jerk in Eclipse, it was not clearly unintentional on her part. She can see nothing wrong with her golden child. And wow, I guess you learn something new every day! LOL!

I agree with you that Meyer loves Jacob — it’s clear in her interviews — but for this many people to see Jacob as acting like a jerk in Eclipse suggests to me that Meyer wasn’t focused or clear enough in her writing.
Smeyer is so in love with her characters that she goes crazy if someone disses ALL THREE of them, not only Jacob, but bella and edward.
Personally, I thought Edward was the only SANE one in Eclipse when he owned up to his mistake and let bella see jacob.
Bella and Jacob were poisonous to each other and treating each other like shi* and used each other so much. I don’t see how that is “love.”

I’ll also add that while I can see “journalists” (I use the term loosely) asking Twilight actors whose side they’re on, to ask the question of other actors, musicians, etc. who AREN’T involved in the series is beyond asinine.
Imagine if you’ve just written a book, recorded an album, directed a movie, etc. You go to an interview expecting to talk about your work, and get asked what side you come down on in the Twilight series.

No, really. No offence. I had a chat with my bosom friend who is well fond of Mr Darcy. And she worded this. I argued at first. But then she said: “Look, in every fairy tale, or a romance book, they all die, even if together but they die in the end. And here you get a fairy tale for eternity.” Fair enough.
To which I’d argue that Pride and Prejudice will be read and admired for probably centuries after the Twilight obsession fades.
Unless you’re thinking literally within the story, Mr. Darcy will outlive Edward Cullen. Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennett ARE immortal, and in a far more meaningful way than Edward and Bella.
