Jim Carrey's new personal website: A visually stunning treat

Categories: News, Water Cooler

jim-carrey-website2_lJust in time for today’s release of his big Disney holiday flick, remake A Christmas Carol, comedian Jim Carrey has relaunched his personal website, and let’s just say, it’s not uninteresting. In fact, echoing his sometimes-comedic sensibilities, it’s got an almost fantastical, psychedelic vibe to it. I totally dig it.

While it’s actually little more than just career-ish type site featuring his spots on television and films, as well as a news feed and one pretty cool link to his Twitter account (unless I’m missing something more?), the visual elements of the new site are the absolutely stunning part. And no wonder — it was put together by 65 Media, the Web designers behind some other cool Hollywood sites, like ones for Land of the Lost and Ratatouille.

What’s also fun is the little embellishes. You can clearly tell that Carrey—or someone on his team, or those interesting folks over at 65 Media — delighted in creating this site. As I already mentioned, I’m obsessed with the link to his Twitter account (although the Tweets themselves are nothing special), which is a little bird at the top of various landing pages on the site, which actually spits out some of Carrey’s latest thoughts. (“headed over to Burbank to face Conan O’brien!” the jaunty little bird, complete with Carrey’s head, says!)

Besides the fun montages (here, at left) that wink at tons of Carey’s vast body of work, the most visually interesting page is when you click on “Biography.” You’re transported to a page that stares right into quivering human eye (not sure if it’s actually Carrey’s, but wouldn’t that be cool if it was?). The eye, at the top of this page, contains a photo gallery of Carrey, along with girlfriend Jenny McCarthy and his family, which can be viewed in the pupil. Again, there’s nothing that we didn’t already know about the comedian on that page, but the visual keeps me interested.

Way to go, Jim, surprising me, yet again. You guys gotta check it out. And then let us know what you think in the comments below.

I’m pretty sure Jim and Jenny aren’t married. But you’re right, the website is amazing!

  • sammy

wife jenny? when did they get married… i love ew.com but there have been major editing and factual mistakes lately.

    • lk

Seriously…this article was clearly not checked for spelling, grammar or facts before it was posted. I expect to read incomplete sentences and inaccuracies in the comments section, but it would be awesome if someone at EW could proofread the actual article itself. Too much to ask? Sorry to rant.

No problem. EW is no longer a magazine but a silly little collection of uninteresting blogs largely banged out by people who don’t write professionally. I don’t think they’re too concerned with spelling, fact-checking, or grammar anymore.

      • SubZero

        How true you are, Ted.

      • Lorelei Mission

Online blogs and news are getting unreadable. Does Tanner have no one available to proofread your write-ups? If not, perhaps they need to learn how proofread for themselves. Or maybe they shouldn’t write anything before they’ve finished their coffee in the morning. I don’t know. This really annoyed me.

      • crazyinjun

true statements about blogs, but try not to miss out on the point.

  • crispy

Maybe he can post pics of all the children who die from preventable diseases because parents were dumb enough to listen to his anti-vaccine nonsense.

    • Joe

Re: Vaccines — People should not look to actors for medical advice. Period. That doesn’t make Jim Carrey responsible for deaths! By your logic, we should sue GM if someone gets hit by a car. Surely it wasn’t the driver’s fault!! :)

      • crispy

But people do listen to actors! That’s the problem. He and Jenny McCarthy are directly responsible for perpetuating the myth that vaccines are dangerous.

      • Jake

Why don’t you tell that to the families of the 500+ people (plus those who died unacounted for) that died due to severe vaccine reactions in 1976 to a vaccine for H1N1 (surprise, surprise, this whole mass vaccination has been attempted before)
President Ford halted vaccinations and the govt had to pay millions upon millions of dollars to the families of those affected by the vaccination, not only those that died but those that ended up with neurological disorders as a result. Please educate yourselves before you talk about stuff you know very little of.

      • crispy

What you need, Jake, is a good ol’ dose of polio.

      • bob

the vaccines are dangerous,.. and its great that some people are actually doing something about it.

    • InteractMD.com

Amen, crispy! It’s sad, Joe, but people do look to celebrities for health advice–Oprah? Get those kids vaccinated and keep making us laugh, Jim and Jenny!

      • dave

just because people look to celebs for health advice doesn’t mean they are directly responsible for deaths, and you are a moron if you believe this. you’re probably one of those who seek medicle help from magazines and tabloids instead of an educated dr. freedom of speach doesn’t mean listen to whatever people say, joe i’m with you!

      • Jake

I typed this in response to crispy but it applies to ou as well, tell that to the families of the 500+ people (plus those who died unacounted for) that died due to severe vaccine reactions in 1976 to a vaccine for H1N1 (surprise, surprise, this whole mass vaccination has been attempted before)
President Ford halted vaccinations and the govt had to pay millions upon millions of dollars to the families of those affected by the vaccination, not only those that died but those that ended up with neurological disorders as a result. • crispy

Well, aren’t you the master of copy/paste. I’m almost frightened to see the Geocities website you copied all that nonsense from.

      • Jake

What is frightening is that you get your “facts” from websites and follow like blind sheep. Please do yourself a favor and visit Pubmed.gov and research the following journal:
American Journal of Epidemiology (PubMed) 110 (2): 105–123

the pages above are for an abstract titled:
“Guillain-Barre syndrome following vaccination in the National Influenza Immunization Program, United States, 1976—1977.”

        abstract by:
Schonberger LB; Bregman DJ, Sullivan-Bolyai JZ, Keenlyside RA, Ziegler DW, Retailliau HF, Eddins DL, Bryan JA

of course, since you seem to be the lazy type who will probably not even research this, I will provide you with a link:
        http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/463869

      • Jake

and because I am in a giving mood and you like to get your facts from websites, here’s another abstract discussing GBS and H1N1 vaccines:

        http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19388722

      • Jake

Crispy, maybe you don’t like your facts from those pesky and nerdy science journals so here’s a link a discussion of the epidemic that never was in 76 from a newspaper:

        http://articles.latimes.com/2009/apr/27/science/sci-swine-history27?pg=1

    • factsonly

You might want to read up on the facts that aren’t given by those receiving huge paybacks from pharmaceutical companies pushing unnecessary/unsafe vaccinations. Just because you receive government-endorsed vaccinations doesn’t mean the rest of us have to.

      • Steve

Well said. Unfortunately with the Medias being bought out generally by the pharmaceutical companies, the watch dog that is the media is sitting in the corner eating steak instead of doing it’s job. At least the celebrity has a chance to have people listen. Learn for yourself….vaccinations DO cause much harm, and little good.

      • crispy

We got a live one! Everyone put on your tin foil party hats… the crazies are here. Woot woot!

      • dc

        jennymccarthybodycount.com/

      • dc

Those horrible mass vaccinations for polio by the government planted those horrible antibodies!!! How dare someone make money!

      • steve

crispy, your idiotic statements only nullify your opinions.

you dont like jims/jennys views on vaccinating – dont watch their movies.

“directly responsible for perpetuating the myth” – youd be surprised that people who have similar beliefs are extremely well read in studies, research, the ingredients of vaccines (do you know whats in them? likely not), how theyre made and so on.

in essence they dont need someone (celebrity or not) to tell them how/what to think.

i could go on, but it would likely fall on deaf ears nor is this the proper forum for such debate.

      • steve

        dc – you too.

sarcasm only works if your not a dumba$$.

    • Karen

As a parent who has 2 children who were perfectly healthy before their vaccinations – and now need around the clock care…I applaud those celebrities and non celebrities about telling the truth about vaccines…my twins are now turning 21…yet they still communicate at a age 5 level…and I am sure, if they could comprehend what I did to them…as it was my choice to get them the vaccine…they would be extremely disappointed in me…and how I altered their lives…

      • crispy

The earth is not flat. Adam and Eve did not ride around on dinosaurs. And vaccines do not cause autism.

      • Jake

Crispy, I find it rather pathetic of you to lash out at someone they way you do, I also think it is cowardly of you to sit there and berate me over a statement I made, accusing me of relying on questionable sources for my comments, yet when I provide you with factual information regarding the H1N1 non-pandemic pandemic in 1976, you simply ignore my comments as if they’re not worth a rebuttal.
This shows what a low class, know-nothing, coward you are.

      • crispy

You’re not worth a rebuttal… other than contempt. You’re just spreading myths and lies cooked up by paranoid idiots. Why would I waste time refuting that? In fact, I hope you and your kids catch measles, swine flu, or any number of preventable ailments, and die from them. It’ll just improve the gene pool for the rest of us.

    • Jaz

You must work in the vaccine industry.

How dare you berate that woman with the twins. Who are you to where you are 100% certain there are no risks in any vaccines ever?

Who is the blind fool? You are!

  • apoehler

Slow news day, eh? “Celebrity website has nonterrible design, film at 11.”

    • Brent

It’s called the “Entertainment” section for a reason…

  • brent

For me – it is nothing but one big black screen – nothing shows.

    • Yesenia

Same for me but I am not surprised since I’m at work. Some video/photo content sites are blocked for me

  • julie

This site is CRAAAAZY awesome!!! yeah, it’s bit “internet hungry” but it’s soooo worth the wait. i’ve never seen an actor website this incredible before. better than your standard issue bio sites…looks like they had quite a bit of fun designing it. (Note to Brent: you need to have Adobe Flash 9 installed to see it)

  • Christina

Yeah. Great site. It doesn’t load. (And yes, I know how to get a site to load.)

  • Bill Melater

The website must be getting slammed. It still hasn’t loaded after 3 minutes of trying.

  • babzc

as soon as one of you can tell me the difference between ethyl mercury and methyl mercury and it’s half life in the human body , the difference between a killed and live vaccine, then i’ll listen to you poser posters who don’t know a damn thing but what you’ve read on the internet. vaccine additives are very dangerous and cause many side effects. why don’t you research a bit of why they’re added. did you know our government has a fund (and a web site) dedicated to people who are harmed by vaccines and support them medically and physically for the rest of their lives.got any idea how many people are enrolled?i do. if you don’t really really know, hush, you do more harm than the vaccines spouting your nonsense.

    • crispy

I prefer to get all my medical advice from Pamela Anderson. Much better bedside manner than Jenny McCarthy.

  • jc2436

I never got past the worm crawling out of the hole. Obviously this site was not intended for mere mortals with their crappy DSL connections (such as exist in most of Canada).

  • babzc

oh and before you start the there are no studies that show any danger in thiomerosol additions to vaccines, note that there havent been but three studies, while the studies on the ethyl mercury which is 51% of thiomersal are quite abundant.

  • Etna

LoL, the website doesn’t load, pretty awesome

  • Jan

Love the site. Live Jim Carrey. Keep my medical advice separate from the non-science types. Oh, and yes… defintely love Jim Carrey. Cannot stress that last part enough. Also, if the conversation on Conan O’Brien is to be believed, that’s his eye. Man, I adore Jim Carrey.

  • Jason

A black screen is a treat…actually whatever server they have this on, probably couldn’t handle the news about his site, so it is overloaded I’m sure.

    • Josh

I didn’t get any HTTP errors like 408 or 500.

  • cp

Ummm… the site is slow to load. There is no timer letting you know how long its going to take to load. And – ultimately the site doesn’t work. I duno…I’d get new flash developers. And yes… I do have the latest flash player loaded…

    • Josh

This is true. Having worked in Flash and ActionScript, this is a no-no. it’s okay for small content but more content needs a preloader and timer. I couldn’t get the page to work correctly either even after I changed the quality settings.
