I personally went into Greek’s midseason finale Monday not even caring so much what happened — I just wanted to bask in the glory of Cappie and Casey finally having gotten together. We got to do that for a bit, complete with wonderfully Greekalicious lines. (Casey on continuing to keep their relationship secret: “Yesterday, Ash wanted to know why I have this smile, and I couldn’t think of an excuse, so I told her I was thinking about the rise and fall of Mischa Barton.”) But we also got, OMG, Songfest! How about Ashleigh’s amazing singing voice? And that final Gamma Psi-ass-kicking final dance number to “Good Girls Go Bad”? (Even if it didn’t win against those cheating Gamma Psis …)
Along with wallowing in all the guiltiest pleasures Greek reliably provides, I was also relieved Cappie and Casey were forced to reveal their rekindled relationship after some PDA in front of Cappie’s brothers…I didn’t want to spend next season — or even a few episodes — in keeping-this-from-Evan mode. The Rusty-Dale rivalry bogged things down a bit — I was so into the juicier stuff that I didn’t like it slowing my momentum, though it did gift us with that hilariously lame smack-talk at their project presentation. (Rusty: “If I’m the anchor, then you’re the canker…sore…in my mouth.”) Oh, and the BattleBot-off was pretty cool, complete with Karate Kid-homage song “You’re the Best” (exactly the kind of detail that endears us to this show).
Aside from that, this episode did what this show does best, weaving a bunch of fluffy plot strands together into some suddenly serious consequences: Suspicions of Songfest tampering led the ZBZ girls to break into Gamma Psi for evidence…and, oops, possibly start a fire that burned down their pretty house. Cappie and Evan’s below-the-surface rivalry ruined their attempt to bring their two houses together by pranking campus police — and resulted in the suspension of the Kappa Tau brothers left holding the officer’s golf cart aloft (suspended on a rope alongside the parking garage…boys really do love complicated pranks, don’t they?).
And so Greek scored another great cliffhanger: Will ZBZ fess up to the arson? Will Dale or Rusty emerge as the ultimate science geek when winners of the fellowship are announced next semester? Is there any hope for Cappie and Evan after this falling out? What do you think, PopWatchers?

Yay for Popwatch talking about Greek! Just got into this show and caught up on past seasons online. It is funny and has heart. Also, doesn’t take itself too seriously…
“Greek” is everything that “Glee” wants to be but isn’t. Campy and corny while still being genuinely funny and clever. Good recap Jennifer… how about weekly ones when the show comes back?
Agree, I would LOVE weekly recaps! So glad Casey and Cappie are back together – it was 4.5 “chapters” in the making! Greek is so under-appreciated – every episode is witty and funny and truthful and just FUN!
Great show I only discovered this year through YouTube, as in Canada and now fan!
Greek is the ultimate guilty pleasure!!! I have to say I am LOVING that Rebecca and Evan finally got together… However, I am hoping that both of them are mature enough to actually make a real go out of their relationship… I am slightly doubting it though, considering right after Evan declares he needs a friend they start making out!
But this season has been kind of long – especially for a guilty pleasure! So I am glad that it is over and we can look forward to the mid-season premiere in Jan!!!
That’s the only moment I felt wasn’t genuine. I would’ve loved if Rebecca had just taken his hand.
Any word on Greek: Season 3, part 2? Will it be some time in Feb-Mar 2010? This scheduling drives me nuts.
it is scheduled to premiere in Jan 2010
David – Ausiello said it’s coming back mid-January. Yay!
So So So excited to see Greek talked about on EW. This was a great episode and I was thrilled to see Casey and Cappie back together! Can’t wait for it to start up again!
YAY! I’m so happy someone at EW is reporting on Greek! This show is so great… it’s totally my guilty pleasure and I’m glad it’s getting the recognition it needs. And am I the only one who thinks Evan is the biggest d-bag EVER?! I’d rather him and Cappie remain enemies…
I loved the dance number. And btw, was that Paula Van Oppen in the background dancing? Is this why she couldn’t be in the top twenty of SYTYCD?
I’m happy that Cappy/Casey are together…but sad about Cappy/Evan…I’m also going to miss Wade and Jeremy
that was totally Paula Van Oppen in the background! and no this wasnt the reason she couldnt be in the Top 20 of SYTYCD. she got offered a role in the Christina Aguilera & Cher movie “Burlesque”
As a fully grown woman, on the wrong side of 25 no less, I constantly feel like I should be embarrassed for loving this show so much. But it’s got so much heart that I can’t help it.
Case in point: Evan’s arc this season has been nothing short of spectacular. For the last couple of chapters, we’ve seen him do little more than some heavy mustache twirling as his character was reduced to a one-dimensional villain. But this season, his character development (dealing with the aftermath of refusing his trust fund, working to rekindle friendships with Cappie and Casey, even attempting to grow a sense of humor) has been top-notch. At first, I loathed the writers’ decision to take him back down that villainous path by betraying Cappie and the KTs, but now that I’ve had more time to reflect, I think it’s a nice reminder that Evan’s still trying to navigate the waters of this new identity he’s carved for himself (not to mention struggling to overcome Casey’s rejection last week with dignity). No one’s perfect–not even the new and improved Evan Chambers.
Fantastic finale. The wait until January is going to feel like forever.
finally!! a Greek recap! i LOVE this show! Are they really not bringing back Jeremy, Wade and the other guy? Wade is so awesome!
That dance number at the end of was great. The way they staged like those improv people in the food court and in the store. Very cool.
I loved that during the Songfest performance, Ashleigh was wearing the outfit that Helen Hunt wears for the DTV tryouts on Girls Just Want to Have Fun!!! The only thing that could’ve made it better is a grasshopper hat!
oh my lord! I knew it looked familliar and I couldn’t place it. Thanks Melanie! That was awesome!
Thanks for reporting on Greek, EW! I too am over 25 (Sarah, you’re not alone) and I LOVE this show. It’s my guilty pleasure, and I went into it not expecting much. Now, I’m re-watching from the pilot now with my son who will be going to college in a few years. At first, I was a little hesitant to let him watch because of the drinking and sex.. .but then I thought about it and realized that he’s seeing this stuff in real life anyway – at least Greek portrays drinking and sex within the context of a great story that usually teaches a lesson. AND… the main characters – for the most part – drink responsibly most of the time.
I’m also a fan of Grey’s, Lost, Mad Men, Smallville and 24 – but believe it or NOT – Greek tops all of them (for me)and makes them all seem rather slow in comparison. I think it’s because this show reminds me of my college years, and in some ways I’m reliving them whenever I watch an epi of Greek. It’s an escape to my past and to a time when all I worried about was where the next party would be and which boy I was going to date or kiss next. I was also in a “top” sorority in college, and I see so many parallels between what I experienced, and what goes on at ZBZ. One good thing about Greek life is that you are “forced” to get along with your brothers/sisters – even if you would not normally be friends with them otherwise (Casey and Bex for example). I definitely experienced this feeling in my sorority at times, and it’s helped me cope in real life (at the office, for example… where I don’t necessarily “like” everyone, but we’re on the same team and must get along.)
Also, much of the writing (especially Cappie’s lines) are SO funny and quotable. I love the pop culture and ’80s movies references….I’m always listening for them now.
Scott Michael Foster is just AWESOME in this show as Cappie. Not only is he a total hottie, but his delivery is always timed perfectly. He’s a great friend, brother, teacher (for Rusty), leader, and boyfriend – he’s almost TOO good to be true – but I just love him anyway. Scott has a very bright future ahead of him – as does Cappie… once he figures out what he wants.
Lastly, I really enjoy how the writers parallel the various story lines in most episodes. The “Friend of Foe” Finale yesterday was a perfect example. Almost every friendship is tested in this episode, and we are left wondering which friendships will survive and which will not — From Cappie/Evan to Dale/Rusty to Calvin/Grant and Casey/Bex – what drama will unfold next? I can’t wait t find out!
I’m really glad Casey and Cappie are together, even though it still doesn’t feel real. I actually was a little sad that Evan and Cappie are at odds again. Evan’s been such a jerk for most of the show’s run, it’s been nice seeing a different side of him.
