Tobias Fünke name-checked in press release: 'I just blue myself'

tobias_funkeTonight’s Time Warp on Discovery Channel (10 p.m. ET) will feature the Blue Man Group! That sounds fun, but check this out: Arrested Development‘s Tobias Fünke got HIS OWN PARAGRAPH in the press release:

Discovery Channel’s TIME WARP team meets the otherworldly Blue Man Group and explores the science of propellers, fluid dynamics and violent chemical reactions – without verbal reaction from the Blue Men, of course. Then, TIME WARP shows us some of the clips most requested by our viewers — all in super slow-motion.

No one has been this excited to work with the Blue Men since Tobias Fünke.

Ha! No explanation! Boy, this Fünke is all anyone’s ever talking about! Discovery Channel deserves a pat on the back from Buster Bluth’s prosthetic hand for this. Just thought you should know.

Bethenny Frankel can tell the other Housewives to shove it

The best part of Bravo’s Real Housewives of New York has always been Bethenny Frankel, who took center stage in the show’s second season with her quips, bulldog attitude, and handling of the “Kell-amity” that is Kelly Bensimon. She was always the one fighting for her pride — whether it involved a salacious N.Y. Post article or the perpetual snark about her singlehood (ahem, Ramona).

Well, now that Frankel’s has her own series in the works, along with an engagement and baby on the way, the other Housewives are probably biting their tongues. Between the Countess’ failed marriage and Alex’s weirder-than-weird husband, Simon, it seems like Frankel has one of the more solid relationships of the bunch.

It’ll be a long while — sometime in 2010 — before we see her again on season 3 of the series, so in the meantime, let’s re-live some of those hilarious one-liners:

Improv Everywhere strikes again! In a thematic follow-up to the Food Court Musical, the merrymakers headed to a grocery store to stupefy and delight its patrons. In doing so, they also delight Internet users like us:

Pretty fantastic, PopWatchers.

'Bachelor' Jason Mesnick and Molly Malaney engaged. Yay?

bachelor-jason-molly_lRemember Jason Mesnick, that wishy-washy Bachelor who broke two women’s hearts on national television…and in the process revived an entire franchise? Yeah, him! Mesnick proposed last night to Molly Malaney, the very woman he dumped and then begged to take him back. Apparently, she said yes. And it all went down in New Zealand, the very scene of the original crime shomance.

So here’s to the happy couple, and to the “fairytale ending”  “every” “woman” “dreams of.” Or something. Pay no attention to your bullshizz meter lighting up at the fact that the engagement comes during a promotional jaunt sponsored by Tourism NZ.  Right, PopWatchers? …Right?

Hilary Swank's 'Amelia': Where's the love?

Categories: Movie Trailers, Oscars

Why don’t you want to see Amelia? It stars a two-time Oscar winner in a role that seems right in her wheelhouse. It’s helmed by a talented female director and features a recognizable supporting cast of handsome faces. But according to a poll at Box Office Mojo, only 6 percent of people intend to see the film this weekend and 43 percent have no intention of EVER seeing it! Really? Ever? READ FULL STORY »

'Glee' previews for tonight: Is there such a thing as too many teasers?

I look forward to new episodes of Glee with enthusiasm that borders the unhealthy range. The “Sweet Caroline” clip from tonight’s Glee was pretty rad, but now there are a slew more teasers. Um, is it 9 o’clock yet?

So it looks like getting slushie-ed is a major part of tonight’s ep…

'90210' recap: A new face and a new friendship

After last week’s breakup-heavy episode, last night’s 90210 was all about forming new bonds (so much so that there was very little Adrianna in the episode and no Navid). There were Liam’s new gal, Teddy and Silver’s new friendship, and Annie and creepy Jasper’s rejuvenated romance, and that’s nice and all, but without Liam’s blackmail, Jen’s bitchery, and Jasper’s knife-wielding ways, this episode was a major snoozefest for me (your regular recapper, Jennifer, had the night off). Since the episode was big on couples (low on this season’s wonderful drama), I’ll share with you where our couples, new and old, stand from last night. READ FULL STORY »

'Melrose Place' recap: Riley goes topless, Jonah lives 'the dream'

melrose-place_lA whole lot of conflict moved into Melrose Place this week. Riley and Jonah were finally fighting; Lauren and David were going at it (no, not in the way we hoped), and old-time Melroser Jo Reynolds came back with her own brand of nastiness. Someone even destroyed that sparrows nest, the only sweet sign of nature in this whole apartment complex! READ FULL STORY »

Jillian Michaels' 'Biggest Loser' spin-off will solve all life's problems...loudly

Categories: Television

Jillian-Michaels-Biggest_lJillian Michaels, the brusque Biggest Loser trainer known for using her profanity-laden intensity to whip contestants into shape, will soon have her own spin-off, Losing It with Jillian Michaels. I’m cautiously optimistic. Jillian is consistently the most interesting part of Loser besides the contestants, and if NBC wants so badly to expand the franchise, you have to admit that Jillian is the only person who makes spin-off sense (unless you’d prefer Happy Hugs with Bob Harper or Dr. Huizenga’s Medical Mystery Tour.)

But can Jillian carry a whole show by herself? On Loser, Jillian is entertaining because her personality sticks out from all the inspirational kindness. She’s like a rabid fox in a henhouse, except the fox is making the hens do push-ups. But she can definitely be controversial, particularly when she’s generously throwing around some censored F-bombs. I know that some people on the comment boards feel like she’s been playing up her badass persona this year – will you be able to stomach her when she has a show all to herself? Moving in with families and taking over their lives? READ FULL STORY »

Kate Gosselin probably can't answer these questions

Kate-Gosselin_lTLC is billing next week’s Jon & Kate Plus 8 as “You Ask, Kate Answers,” in which Kate Gosselin will answer viewers’ lingering questions. Okay, I’ll bite: Is there actually anything left that we don’t know about Kate Gosselin?

We know the details of her marriage, we’ve watched her parenting skills, we’ve seen her get surgery, we’re in the process of watching her get divorced. We’ve seen her at some high highs and strange lows. We’ve watched her substantively change, and in the process we’ve sort of changed, too; First we loathed her, then we sympathized, then we sort of just winced as she and her soon-to-be-ex-husband aired all their dirty laundry on any news outlet that would have them. It wasn’t that their personal business was particularly tawdry. If anything, it was disappointingly banal, its own self-perpetuating cliche about fame and ambition.

My question, I guess, is less for Kate and maybe more for you and for me then: What is it that makes Kate Gosselin a person of interest? Why do we watch her shows, why are we following — and in doing so, creating — her story? What part of ourselves do we see and are we afraid to see through the lens of a Jon & Kate fame cycle?

I’m guessing you have some questions of your own, though, PopWatchers. Right?
