Roger Daltrey let it slip in an interview this week that The Who might be the next band to get Rock Band-ized. He told a Massachusetts newspaper, “The game, yeah, yeah, they’re going to be doing a Who one next year. There is one planned. [The idea] is fabulous. Anything that gets non-musical people interested in music is wonderful. In my opinion, music is our last true great freedom. They can burn our books, they can burn our paintings, but they can’t stop us singing and making music.”
A rep for Rock Band was a bit more vague: “We’re working closely with The Who on what’s next, but don’t have anything new to announce at this time,” he told EW.
Watch out, PW nation: Should this game come to pass, I will positively crush you with my mighty “Pinball Wizard” skills.
I would be all about a The Who: Rock Band game. How about you, PopWatchers?

First off, Rock Band has only had one band-centric game (The AC/DC track pack does not count), and that’s the recently released “Beatles Rock Band” game. The Who is not the Beatles. Also, a good majority of their songs are all ready in Rock Band available to download. The song list is missing maybe two or three of their bigger hits, but you can buy those songs for like $20 and not need to buy ONE GAME just to have their music & possibly play as them.
Unnecessary. I hope this is not true unless it means that we’ll be getting even more obscure Who tracks for the Rock Band store, which I’m down for.
I just don’t see them getting their own game, especially since most of their classics have already been released on Rock Band. But it would be nice to get Bargain, finally.
I prefer purchasing my songs a la carte. Bulk licensing may be a good deal for bands and video game publishers, but it’s not a deal for me.
I’m holding out for the Queen edition of one of those music games.
Ten Queen songs were released for Rock Band last week. Although I could use some more!
They were my “Beatles”!
What about Prince?
Prince was approached, but declined citing that he would prefer kids pick up a “real” instrument or guitar and learn how to play. I would have loved to see Prince too. How about some rock chicks…like Joan Jet, Stevie Nicks, or Hart..that would be cool!
Will The Who version come with an amplifier and disposable guitars?
..if you can smash your guitar and put it back together again.
I’m glad I got it free.
There was no effort put into it.
There’s making the songs available which is one thing, and then there’s being able to create a complete game experience around a band and its image. Most bands don’t have enough story to make a sufficiently different or interesting game. The Who might have enough for a unique story, but I’m not entirely sold. Thinking of the band story in addition to the music, I’d think Rock Band: Spinal Tap could be all kinds of awesome.
Rush Rockband.
well, they are coming out with a live Pearl Jam rock band next year. A Who one would definitely be believable and awesome. Especially to be able to play the songs from Quadrophenia
