Anything that includes The Neverending Story’s Falcor the Luck Dragon is a-okay in my book (it’s a good book, too, FYI), and this comic strip about “Hogwarts High,” a cheesey ’80s version of Harry Potter, combines even more of my favorite things. Artist Lucy Knisley covers the ’80s bases — Anthony Michael Hall, Back to the Future — with eerie accuracy. Her full masterpiece after the jump…

Wow, why hasn’t Warner put a kaibosh on this comic yet like they did that british womans dinner party in the ‘Deathly Lawyers’ article? How convenient that the comment section for the ‘Deathly Lawyers’ article is shut down considering Entertainment Weekly is like Warner, a division of Time Warner. So taking my 5th into consideration all i can say is go pound sand. TW and JK are really full of themselves and can’t take the criticism that’s pending them. This is very Whitehouse not wanting Fox involded in news. Control the media much?
You’re pathetic.
You’re not on the stand nor are you being asked to incriminate yourself so you don’t have any 5th amendment rights. Also, there is nothing wrong with the creator of copyrightable material protecting his or her copyright. You’ve also used the word “pending” incorrectly. And Fox is by nature only mildly involved with news. Take your screed elsewhere.
It’s very simple. This is considered parody, which is protected under law. The British woman’s party was something she was doing to make money (she was charging for tickets online), and was therefore in violation of copyright law, as she had not gotten prior permission to profit from someone else’s intellectual property.
Uh, Jamie–Whuh? You make no sense. Put down your drink and go sober up before you post again, please.
Considering that the woman hosting the dinner was charging admission, whereas this comic is free of charge, I think you’re comparing apples to oranges (I couldn’t think of a good Harry Potter/wizarding metaphor.)
I wouldn’t stand there, they sky might fall on you.
I think you mean “involved” in your little tantrum.
I really wish I could read it better. Maybe I need new glasses. Mine have been broken for awhile. Anywho, it looks cute and funny, and I’m a total kid of the 80’s, so this is hilarious. I especially love Jon Cusack as Harry and Mark Paul Gosselaar as Drako. Haha.
There’s a picture on the internet of Bowie I saw that looked TOTALLY like Voldemort. Also, in Labrynth, Connely actually says Hogwart!
whoa, I’ve been following Lucy on livejournal for years! she once drew me a picture of a person with a banana in place of a unicorn horn- trust me, it was awesome. so excited to see her featured here.
Ally Sheedy would make a better Hermione – anyone else think Emma Watson looks exactly like Ally Sheedy?
That was great! Made me smile
If JK had created HP 20 years ago, the reality would be more likely a BBC Children’s series with wobbly sets, dodgy effects and probably most of the same (adult) cast that ended up in the movies…
