Ricky Gervais hosting the Golden Globes: Are you having a laugh?

Hugh Jackman did the Oscars. NPH did the Tonys and the Emmys. And now Ricky Gervais is set to host the Golden Globes! Holy moly, this could be awesome. Here he is hilariously presenting at this year’s Emmy’s:

The Golden Globes aren’t as uptight or formal (or definite) as other awards shows, which can probably be linked to the fact that the celebrities appear to be drinking the entire time. Funsies!

The Globes haven’t had a host since 1995, but I think Gervais will absolutely kill. Place your bets, PopWatchers: How will Gervais do come Jan. 17?

Ricky’s natural/conversational style will make him a perfect host… especially if his writing partner, Stephen Merchant, is involved too.

Yes! I love Ricky Gervais, and the Golden Globes is a perfect fit for his brand of comedy.

The Golden Globes actually have a host?

As they said in the article, the Globes haven’t had a host since 1995.

    So excited.

YESSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!! Thank the Gods! I love RICKY!!!

I can’t stand that idiot! Very disappointed that they added a host to the show period, but now with this fool it should be a disaster!

Ricky is so overrated! I think he is so arrogant, it completely spoils his humor. I normally love watching the Globes, but I’ll have to mute Ricky.

Ricky’s entire schtick is his arrogance! The whole “I know I’m unnattractive yet somehow wittier, wealthier, AND British therefore smarter” thing, just cracks me up.

I love Ricky Gervais and am all for him hosting an award show…but yeah, the Globes work just fine without a host. It helps contribute to the laidback, fun nature of the awards as it’s more relaxed and less structured.

Eh, Ricky KILLS me every time he presents on awards shows, but hosting may be too much of a good thing. He can’t be as biting as he is when he just breezes in and breezes out. Not sure about this. Plus the whole Golden Globes don’t have a host noted above.

Perfect fit. Anything can and will happen at the Golden Globes and he is just the man to bring the chaos. So funny.

It’s about time he’s hosting an Awards show. I’ve laughed til I cried with him at the Emmy’s the last 2 years. Should be fantastic

    Funsies! Funsievilles!

  • Annie

Fine by me. I’m more concerned with the inevitable injustice of the nominations! :)

  • Quirky

Wow this is the first time I’ve ever had respect for the Golden Globes.

I don ´t want to sound as a troll but the joke about “Five thousand people watching at home” was originally made by Hugh Jackman at the Tonys in 2004…:-)
But otherwise, he is a great choice for Golden Globes. It´s not watched world-wide and I think the atmosphere there is more relaxed and ready for his “weird” humor than the Oscars.
