Last night’s Curb Your Enthusiasm was even more cringe-y than usual, right? Office assistant Maureen’s misguided choice in cropped tees was uncomfortable enough (Top o’the muffin TO YOU!”); even I, a longtime fan, was surprised when the only somewhat-accomplished weight-loser ended up saving Larry’s life as he clutched her ample love handles from two stories up. Larry’s done the “bald people all look the same to you” lament before, but never in the context of a police lineup to prove that black-bald is as indistinguishable from white-bald as Wheelchair Wendy is from Denise Handicapped. And the pissing-on-a-Jesus-painting gag (literally, I am gagging) was pretty far-out, even for Curb. How exactly were Maureen and her hallucination-prone mom going to avoid drip-age or slide-age on that thing, not to mention evaporation (~shrinkage) on their Human Waste Miracle road show? And seriously? NAPKINS? Yes? Okay. I’ve been known to swipe stacks of paper towels from the EW kitchen. Gee, I hope no one is reading this!
Any scene with Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David just talking was the best, though, and as Jerry astutely pointed out during a discussion of the upcoming Seinfeld reunion, “What’s real got to do with what we do” anyway? My own favorite scene was when Larry and Jerry took so long deliberating who would have to scoot over in the diner booth and give up the “executive suite” so that poor Richard Lewis could join them that Lewis ended up just walking away. And whatever you thought of the Jesus-splashback fiasco, anything that prompts Larry’s line “I think every erection is a miracle” is fine with me. I thought the Jerry/Larry conversations were hilarious. They underscored that the two are very similar and both have the same hangups with minutae. The only difference is that Jerry is self-aware enough and charming enough that he can function in normal society while Larry, obviously, cannot.
I cringed the most when Larry neglected to wipe up his urine mess. Gross, Larry. Gross.
Richard Lewis, not Jerry Lewis.
two words: mormon beautician
Jerry is hysterical in this show– I forgot how funny he is…
I was thinking the same thing. It’s funny when you “miss” someone on TV.
I never knew Jerry was this funny. Watching them two seem like watching Seinfield with Jerry as Jerry and Larry as George. When Jerry asked did he have Seabuscuit in there I was rolling. Also calling Larry as bulvan and the diner scene. Jerry and Larry have great chemistry but I am missing Leon. I’m wating for that scene with Leon and Michael Richards.
The muffin top was gross! I hope all women who wear crop tops learn from this episode!
I haven’t watched the show in awhile since I quit subscribing to HBO- but what I always found ridiculous about Larry- was how he always managed to get a date with one pretty lady after another- and much younger than him to boot- which I found totally unbelieveable whether he has money or fame or both- because the man is simply not in the least bit physically attractive and has the most self-serving narcisstic anal retentive personality breathing.
Oh, and the funniest people on the show by far is Susie and Jeffrey- NOT Larry David. And when she is on, Wanda Sykes also blows past him.
Wanda is too funny. On the first episode this season when Wanda asked Larry has he met Lil Wayne and stuff I was rolling.
This was one of the best episodes of Curb. For me, it was when the blood splattered on the car…
Who else cringed when the Larry ‘look-alike’was murdered roadside and the blood went on the windshield? I thought, we are close to the line here.
Jerry & Larry were funny. The rest of the ep was pretty dumb, IMO. Curb can do much better.
I especially liked the “executive suite” concept. I’ve been calling the handicapped stall in a public bathroom the “executive stall” for years. All that room!
Cringe-iest moment was when the the blood splattered on the windshield through which the horrified newlywed was watching the angry driver beat her husband to death. For those who didn’t see the episode, yes, that’s really what happened. Funny? Yes!
I generally enjoy Curb’s rude humor but I thought the urine on Jesus was way more offensive than the burning of the Puerto Rican flag on Seinfeld. I’m surprised people aren’t complaining.
Seriously, more offensive than having a “painting” of Jesus in the bathroom in the first place? This episode missed the mark way too often, let’s hope better things are to come.
