Maybe the cuddly werewolves from Monday’s New Moon clip weren’t your cup of tea? Then feast your eyes on the new trailer (embedded below) for The Wolfman remake starring Benicio Del Toro. The aspect that actually excites me the most in this trailer is not Del Toro’s beastly transformation, but the film’s atmosphere. I miss the elaborately designed, Gothic-influenced horror films of the 1990s, such as Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Interview with the Vampire, and Sleepy Hollow, in which the architecture was just as much of a character as the monsters.
As for The Wolfman, its 1880s setting looks splendid, which shouldn’t be a surprise given that the film’s sets were designed by the Oscar-winning Rick Heinrichs (Sleepy Hollow). That should be enough to get my behind in a seat. What about you, PopWatchers?

I’m looking forward to this but its been pushed back a couple times so my expectations are kinda low. I’ll still go see it though.
I’m excited for this one, hopefully it’s as good as the previews make it look.
& I agree on loving the setting of all the movies you listed; I especially like watching those movies in the fall, when it’s chilly & damp outside.
I saw them filming scenes for this at the Old Royal Navy College in London this summer. I’m sooo excited to see it!
I’m excited that Gothic is coming back.
I’m also excited about Anthony Hopkins. He hasn’t been too present these days. Together, I’m optimistic. Everyone seems to have written this off already, but with this pedigree, I’m not willing to let release dates deter me yet.
I thought I heard some rumblings that, if this movie does well, Universal may feel empowered to go forward and give the same kind of remake treatment to its other classic monsters. If so, how awesome would that be (major Uni classic monsters geek here).
In the meantime, yes this does look good and I hope it is (the February release date concerns me a litte bit, though).
Yes, it’s fantastic that the gothic theme is back but, c’mon, Benicio del Toro is a brilliant actor. I am truly looking forward to this movie, and I’m a scaredy cat!
That trailer is truly amazing. Hopefully this movie can do good in the box office, I have a feeling that Hollywood expects it to bomb.
i love benicio and werewolves, so count me in. although i admit i wasn’t too psyched, until i saw the full trailer IN theaters and got sufficiently spooked.
No wonder Wolfman harkens back to Sleepy Hollow, considering the fact that Rick Heinrichs is production designer on both projects.
