Ironic headline alert for a blog item effectively publicizing a product! Is anyone else sort of bewildered by the commercial for upcoming iPhone competitor Droid? The abrupt tempo change and graphics at the end screamed “Star Wars-themed gaming system!” to me when I saw it last night, and sidenote: the two dots under the “R” in the “DROID” logo vaguely remind me of “a gun.”
Verizon hasn’t bothered to provide its rapt viewing audience with an image of the thing (though tech blogger Boy Genius has a bunch. He loves it!) Maybe I just can’t handle the idea of there being something cooler than the iPhone. My denial will last for days and days. What about you, P-droids — does the TV spot have you intrigued or annoyed?

Confused and Annoyed….I didn’t have a clue what the commercial was advertising.
Agree
Having ditched an Iphone 3GS due to slow coverage and poor connection. Tried a GSM Hero… and yes… ALL TRUE. Once you try it.. you see why its best to DROID, cause it DOES
I will say. Having worked in marketing. This is one of the worst advertisements I have ever seen. I sat watching it with 6 others with marketing experience. Not one of us had a clue what they were trying to sell.
I thought this was a video game.
I hate this commercial! It took me a few viewings before I realized it’s an ad for an iphone competitor… and they’re mocking things the iphone supposedly doesn’t do. But here’s the thing… who wants to take pictures in the dark? Or change battery? Stupid.
i think “taking pictures in the dark” refers to the fact that it’s supposed to actually have a decent flash. if that’s true, it will be huge improvement for a camera phone.
If you have multiple Apps running…you will run out of battery. Therefore you may want to be able to change batteries.
Also, have you heard about Digital Cameras that have flash capabilities…is that stupid? Why? I do not get it…. having that feature in a 5Mpixel cammera is a must.
Haha, When you call him stupid…You really mean your stupid. For one, taking pictures at night or even in the dark is handy for a collision or anything disaster. And second, an interchangable battery means you dont have to send your phone to apple to get it fixed, all you have to do is flip the back open and put in another. Gosh, some people like yourself are tools.
who wants to take a picture in the dark? are you serious? you never used a flash on a camera before?
and who wants to replace their own battery? probably someone that doesn’t want to spend about $80 plus shipping plus waiting at least three days for apple to change their batteries for them.
you’re kidding with these questions, aren’t you?
I concur, it was confusing. My husband even commented “was that still the same commercial?”
Ok….on one end you have the bubble gum iPhone like type of music, that reminds you of the save the planet cult driven type of iPhone user…then you have th DROID music, graphich and more…that shows a new type of OS technology and mobile.
It was clearly mocking iPhones and saying a competitor that does everything iPhone does not is coming.
You have to be pretty dense to not get that.
I agree…you have to be pretty dense not to get that or just be an iPhone user that does not care about features as long as they feel sooooo coooool.
This looks like something from a Transformers commercial…not sure what it’s selling.
it’s called a teaser. obviously it worked since everyone is talking about it. relax people!
LOVE.
Of course, I’m running a phone with Android now.
great commercial
The commercial is a play on the happy-upbeat tone of most Apple commercials, and then the tone and graphics change to show how super coo, futuristic and whatever the droid is supposed to be. Whatever.
Loved this spot and also Verizon’s “There’s a map for that” campaign, but no surprise there since I’m an iHater.
yay. i thought i was the only one who can’t stand the cult of apple. i could care less about the iphone and this new phone, quite honestly.
Count me in on being an iPhone hater also. I’m so sick of listening to or hearing about it. Get over yourselves people it’s a phone big deal. IMHO people need to get a life and not worry about apps, blog, facebook,my space 24/7. there are much more important things in life these days. Like keeping your job and or finding one if you don’t have one.
completely thought it said DFOID the first time i saw it (or until the droiddoes.com pops up). the dots made me think that it was supposed to be part of the lettering.
Yeah man!!! I completely thought it was DFoid too! It really sounded it like that. That’s what I searched until I found this ahahaha!
Yes I want my phone to be name after a bumbling robot*
unless the whole world is a star wars fan and get it blah
I think the commercial does exactly what it’s supposed (I’m assuming its purpose) to do. It makes you wonder more. The change in styles makes it more memorable because it gets you thinking about the commercial. But yes, the R looks like a gun.
No, the “r” looks like the android logo. Check it out somewhere.
To easy for Apple to respond with “It’s not a Droid your looking for…”
LOL. We don’t serve their kind in here!
That’s no moon! …But there is an app for that.
There is an easy response to that considering the WERE the droids the empire was looking for. It was the jedi mind trick (Apple brainwashing) that persuaded them otherwise.
