ABC’s Ugly Betty may have moved to a new night, but you know what has stayed the same? The abundance of wonderful, quippy lines from the sweet dramedy. Last night, Ugly Betty premiered in its new Friday night home—and Betty premiered her new look as an associate features editor. Since the episode was two hours, there was an insane amount of great bites, which I just couldn’t help but share with you. (Just you wait—there are tons!) Here are some of my faves:
“Figure we got to break out the labels for your first day of high school. Can’t afford college now, but at least you’ll be styling!” —Hilda, about the Gucci shirt her son Justin is wearing to his first day of high school
“Morning! I come bearing dry cleaning—extra plastic for the landfills. Just like you like it.” —Marc, dropping dry cleaning off at his boss Willy’s apartment
“No, Marc, you can’t use my bathroom. No one uses my bathroom, not even me!” —Willy, during Marc’s visit to her apartment
“We will blow up that bridge when we get to it.” —Willy, after Marc asks what they’ll do if she gets fired from Mode
“I am an attractive, intelligent, confident associate features editor.” —Betty, on her first day as an editor at Mode, echoing the statement she made on her first day at the magazine three years before
“That’s adorable. You thought an associate editor would get her own office? I just wanna eat you up.” —Betty’s coworker and office mate, Megan
“Get away from me, you bloated troll.” —Amanda, after Marc caught her talking to Betty
“Wake up and smell the aromatherapy, Betty! Being an assistant is boot camp. Being an editor is war. You have your allies, you have your enemies. Oftentimes, you can’t tell which is which.” —Willy, giving advice to Betty in the steam room
“Oh, and malaria—really?! Like I would ever put disease-ridden poor people in the pages of this magazine.” —Willy, about Betty’s feature idea on malaria
“Well, I supposed I shouldn’t have tried to blackmail Claire. But in my defense, it’s hardly the worst thing I’ve done to the woman. Though she really is less of a woman, at this point, than something you use to scare crows or children.” —Willy, bad-mouthing her boss Claire while thinking that she’s going to get fired from Mode
“I’m sorry. All those facelifts must have affected your speech. What do you say?” —Willy, after Claire tells her that she wants her to stay on at Mode
“Betty’s waddling around here somewhere. Last I saw she was tossing carbs around the office with wild abandon!” —Marc, to Justin when he stops by Mode
“That’s a muffin! You can’t call a tape dispenser with a muffin!” —Marc, to Betty, who acts like she’s picking up Marc’s fake, avoiding phone call
“You take that back! I am beautiful!” —Amanda, after Marc calls her “brilliant”
“Oh Marc! You think this is my first extortion-slash-secret-takeover? Please!” —Willy, as she and Marc plot to get her back on top at Mode
“Well, first of all, I had fries last night, so they’ll be no lunch today.” —Marc, after Justin asks if he wants to get lunch
“Sorry, Betty, I’ll just aim for a cankle!” —Amanda, during the dream sequence when all of the Mode staff was hunting after Betty
“So I was at The Gates last night and that dad from Jon & Kate Plus 8 was there—I think his name is Ben. Anyway, he was totally hitting on me, of course. And P.S. Plus 8? More like Plus 4.” —Helen, talking to new BFF Amanda
“Um, Bloandre the Giant is over there. I think she wants to talk to you.” —Marc, to Amanda, about new Mode temp Helen
“Old people usually scare me because they remind me of death and all. But I like you. You’re like a giant, knobby shade tree.” —Amanda, to older new Mode temp Helen

“I’m not worried. Someone will marry me. Or make me a part of their entourage. Oh, oh, or make a reality show about me! It’s all good.” —Helen, telling Amanda what she’s going to do with her life
“Mandi, we’ve discussed this. When your looks start to go, we are buying you new ones.” —Marc, to Amanda
“Punching out your employees? Even I know not to do that in public, Daniel!” —Willy, after Daniel clocks Matt
“You got a delivery while you were out. I signed for it, so I hope it’s nothing illegal.” —Betty’s office mate Megan

Oh, God! Betty can do so much better than Matt. Matt has too many daddy issues and whenever Betty needed a favor, whather it concerned her job or a friend, Matt was all “No because I hate Mom/Dad.” Screw Matt!!! Bring back Gio!!!

Loved when Amanda said: “I’m putting the phones to voicemail and going out to drink my face off.” Classic.
I loved it when Betty came to work with her new look and Amanda said something like “Oh something’s different. You had your braces removed? Oh, I know, you shaved!” lol
The only one missing is “I can tell by your expression that your surprised. Not that your eyebrows moved.” Claire to Willy after telling her that her job is safe.
Loved the troll remark! And yeah, never liked Matt and this episode just cemented it
Loved all the witty remarks in the premiere – it was nice to see the show back, but think an hour (vs. two) would have been more keen.
The show was supposed to premiere last week. Don’t know why it didn’t, but they decided to show 2 episodes this week. Maybe the 1st hr by itself wouldn’t have been a good enough episode.
It wasnt 2 seperate episodes to begin with..it was one whole episode. ABC wanted a 2 hours premiere. Production took one month to film this episode. The whole episode was called The Butterfly affect, again, it wasnt 2 episodes.
BTW, I think that “Jon & Kate” remark was actually Amanda’s to Marc.
I liked Matt before they showed that he’s on an emotional level with a petty 12-year-old girl.
Yeah, that was definetely Amanda to Mark. Helen came up just a minute later and said “so I saw Ben from Jon and Kate Plus 8 last night…”. The first line about not being plus 8 was to Mark.
Loved the whole show beginning to end…I loved the whole finger pointing part when Hilda was all up in Marc’s face…that had me cracking up! And seeing Justin at school, dealing with all his drama…loved it! I can’t wait until next Friday!
Makeover is right, just about everyone has been hitting the dinner table it seems, they looked pretty big. Marc, Amanda, Willy,and Betty were all big. That pant suit did not fit on Betty at all.
This is making me wish I’d picked Betty over Smallville. I hate that they’ve moved so many shows to Friday night. Bleh.

Why is Matt still here?? Seriously, he has got to be the WORST character in the show’s history. He has absolutely no redeeming qualities. Ever since he showed up, he’s been nothing but a whiny petulant child. I’d rather Betty go back to WALTER than spend another moment dealing with Matt. That said, it’s nice to see the show back, and changing things up a bit. And America Ferrara is still adorable as Betty.
I completely disagree. Betty is a sweetheart and deserves a sweetheart – Matt fits the bill. If you think he’s a whiny, petulant child, go back and watch Daniel again in the first two seasons. But he’s changed because of knowing Betty – she helped him grow as a person. Matt has some growing to do, that’s all. Give him a chance. He’s HURTING.
i agree with Melo. Matt is hurting and that’s how men act when they don’t want to deal. I think Matt is great looking! Matt and Betty are a good match!
I agree that Matt is just a whiny baby. Maybe if he stopped chasing another 15-minute job. get over the crappy childhood, and grow some balls, Betty wouldn’t have had to turn to Henry in the first place. Matt’s loss, not Betty’s.

What are you talking about?! Season 3 was when Betty “fit in” no one was really mean to her. This season, she moves up and has to prove herself again.

It’s the BROWS! I couldn’t figure out why Betty looked so much prettier even before her mini-makoever. She no longer has bushman brows! Glad the braces will be going soon too. It’s not that I want Betty to suddenly become a supermodel, but the braces have been driving me nuts. Straight teeth don’t need braces for four years.
Her hair was less frizzy too. And as for the braces, well I had mine for 8 years (4th grade through my senior year of hs) so I can relate to her pain!
At 9, you haven’t completed your growth and may not have lost all your baby teeth and you hadn’t stopped growing, yet. 4 yrs is a long time if you started wearing them in high school or later.
Pleaseee can this be the season where Betty and Daniel get together? With the Friday night death-slot time-slot, I don’t know if we’ll get another season of “Betty”. Please bring on the Baniel!
This is the only network show I watch. Loved the snarky dialog. I was bullied in school so I could identify with Justin’s plight. I like the fact Justin confided in Marc. Betty’s new look is updated but with some of the old Betty touches. The butterfly pin Betty is wearing at the end just said it all. Betty is changing and growing. What a great analogy. Betty was a caterpillar that became a butterfly. Good job ABC!

Loved yesterday’s episode! I’ve never been a Betty/Daniel shipper, but after last night, I hope the show heads that direction. I loved all their scenes together, and I cheered when Daniel punched Matt after he was being a jerk to her!

I definitely got a vibe from them that I don’t remember getting before now…don’t know if I was reading into it too much but I’m curious to see how that develops.
I did too, especially in that last scene. He totally looked at Betty in a different way than before; even the tone of his voice was smoother.
Betty’s eyebrows! I thought something was different on her face. The Matt character is a jerk for sure & deserved that punch. I watched that movie “The Other Boleyn Girl” and Anne Boleyn had on the same necklace as Betty. I wonder if they knew it was a replica of Anne’s necklace?
I’d say they intentionally made a replica of the Bolyen necklace. It’s pretty well known, especially to someone in the costume industry.

Loved the premiere, it reminded me how much i love watching it! All those quips mentioned were so funny…I love that Ugly Betty can be fun and serious in the same episode! I reallyyy hope that it does ok on Fridays and last long enough to have a proper ending…i would be pissed to have it just end!
They were really trying to make us remember season 1, don’t you think? I thought the premiere was okay, considering the corner they’ve written themselves into. Matt needs to go – they should’ve never given her so many romantic interests. And what’s with Willie’s family all being murderers?!
