This weekend, Gossip Girl star Penn Badgley has his first big-screen leading role, in the remake of The Stepfather. Plus, his co-star (and real-life girlfriend) Blake Lively has a small role in New York, I Love You, which is now in limited release. So, which of the GG kids is choosing the best film projects? Badgley seems to be following the GG-cast trend of booking scary flicks (Chace Crawford was in 2008’s The Haunting of Molly Hartley; and Leighton Meester and Jessica Szhor are in 2010’s The Roommate and Piranha 3D, respectively). Horror flicks can end up doing very well, and Stepfather commercials have been all over the place, although reviews have been lukewarm. Still, I think I’m going to have to give my votes to Lively and Crawford for embracing alternate strategies. Lively has been taking supporting roles in smaller but star-studded flicks—such as New York, I Love You, the upcoming The Private Lives of Pippa Lee, and The Town, costarring Ben Affleck (who also directs), Jon Hamm, Jeremy Renner, and Rebecca Hall. It’s a great cast , and the film could prove her range as an actress. Meanwhile, Crawford is tackling the lead in the Footloose remake which, good or bad, will be highly-anticipated and nab a ton of attention. Plus, it’s the movie that shot Kevin Bacon into super-stardom. Maybe it can do the same for Chace?

Chace Crawford is going to be in Twelve which seems to be good. We’ll see when all these movies come out and then compare who’s doing the best.
i was just thinking that. chace, while he doesn’t do much on gg, will have the most success in film. him and meester are my big bets.

And, for serious, why no mention of Ed doing Wuthering Heights? That’s at least got to be better than Piranha or The Roommate, right?
We don’t know if he’s not talented, or if Nate is just an incredibly boring character. He seems to have a lot more charisma when he’s not on GG, but then again, its not like I’ve met him in person
I don’t agree, leighton meester will do pretty good. Yes she will be in a horror film but her acting is the best compared to the rest of the class. She is also gonna be in date night which has a pretty big cast.

I saw New York I love you, and Blake Lively’s cameo (she’s onscreen exactly a minute) is basically a joke. She plays Serena and wobbles unconvincingly. That’s it. You’re making it sound more impressive than it is.

Don’t forget that Blake was in the Secret Life of Bees before GG (I think). I haven’t seen it, but it seems to have gotten generally good reviews.

Leighton – she had a small role in Date Night starring Tina Fey and Steve Carell. She’s starring in The Roommate, and she just signed on to star in a movie with Amber Heard.

All of these guys are going to have careers about as good as the cast of 90210. This show has more people writing about it than actually watching it. Twenty years from now they’ll be in the 2020’s equivalent of reality TV.

IMO, Penn Badgley is the one who will be able to make it. He was in three or 4 cancelled teen shows before Gossip Girl. It looks like he can easily get off his “lonely boy” costume to land any role.
My second would be Blake Lively because she has that “gorgeous girl next door look”. But soon she will have to decide whether she wants to follow Cameron Diaz steps or Jennifer Aniston ones.

With Pippa Lee and The Town, plus those Sisterhood movies, it looks like Blake is taking the early lead. I think Leighton or Ed will have the most success in the long run though.

i think that the roommate is going to be amazing, and btw the director is an oscar nominated one and leighton is probably the best actress on the show. Im guessing on Leighton and Ed and maybe Chace but th efam eremake didnt go very well but he is hot as hell so we better hope! Blake is allready pretty famous and leighton is actually to beacuse of her music
Lively has the right idea. That’s how you get career longevity: use your role on a TV show to get small parts in good movies, not big parts in bad movies. It’s hard to pull off, because what is your agent going to recommend: the lead role in a mainstream horror flick with a good salary, or the fifth lead in a Sundance indie with no salary? Easy to see why so many teen TV stars get stuck in horror purgatory.
To be fair, Lively also has insane family connections in the industry.
I am hoping that Westwick and Meester dont fade into oblivion once the show is over like so many of the actors who are on teen shows like gossip girl. Realistically speaking only 2 or 3 will make it on the big screen, a couple will get tv roles again, and the rest we will never hear from lol. I think while Ed was in S. Darko, a horrible movie, he made a good choice in Wuthering Heights just because it is so different than what young actors usually pick when they are on a tv show. I cant believe he didnt get a mention but Jessica S got one for freaking Piranha 3D in which she will probably be killed in the first 30 minutes, not cool. Out of everyones roles Ed has the best one of the bunch, if he does a good job, Wuthering Heights will bring a ton of stuff his way. Meester to me actually made the best choice as far as small role in a big film with Date Night. yeah Blake did it with The Town, but from what I can see she is playing a poorer version of the Serena character in that movie.

Any of them but Chace in “Footlose” That is a classic that can never be remade in the first place but trying to remake it with Chace???? It’s going to be heinous.
