You cannot deny the American Apparel ad-awesomeness that is Kelly Kapoor (Mindy Kaling) and Erin Hannon (Ellie Kemper) dressed in shiny gold spandex for their first music video. Yes, The Office ladies form a girl group called — what else? — Subtle Sexuality and shoot the clip for their first single, “Male Primadonna,” in three upcoming webisodes (posting to NBC.com on Oct. 29). The online series chronicles the backstage drama, mostly involving diva behavior from guest rapper/Kelly’s muse Ryan (B.J. Novak), and his subsequent replacement, Andy (Ed Helms). But the piece de resistance is the final episode, the video itself — memorable for both the ridiculously catchy tune and the wardrobe.
“This is them not being able to decide who’s more amazing, Beyonce or Lady Gaga, so they decide to copy both,” says Kaling, who also directed. “Our clothes on the show are usually from, like, JC Penney, so I wanted it to be just a tiny bit better than what they would come up with themselves. They’re not great, but they’re kind of wonderful, if that makes any sense.” Oh, it does.

I love that it’s called “American Apparel” when the designer id clearly Canadian. Sell out.
Canada is part of North America, Soupy.
american doesn’t mean north american …
American Apparel’s clothes are all created in LA…so regardless of if Canada is a part of North America it still doesn’t mean that something made there is from American Apparel. Obviously.
LOVE. IT.
Are all three going to be posted on October 29 or are they going to be split up and be posted every Thursday after the 29?
Alright people, the founder is Canadian, and his line was created out of fascination with American culture during his time at Tufts University. REGARDLESS, Mindy Kaling is my hero.
