Ladies and Gents, the 'Toy Story 3' trailer...

Categories: Movie Trailers, Movies

As Disney primes a new generation of consumers….sorry, I mean ‘kids’…with their theatrical re-rereleases of Toy Story and Toy Story 2 in 3-D, let’s not lose sight of what it’s all really about — creating anticipation and early buzz for next summer’s Toy Story 3. This week, a new trailer for the film hit the internet and with it the hopes and dreams of a new generation of Buzz and Woody ankle-biters itching to gobble up every action figure, flannel bed sheet set, and Mr. Potato Head Extra Value Meal tie-in were born. The good news is, the film looks just as undeniably cool as the first two (you have to hand it to Pixar) right down to the inevitably treacly Randy Newman soundtrack. Plus, Tim Allen’s back (speaking Spanish, no less!). Tom Hanks is back. Cliff from Cheers is back. Even Rickles appears to be onboard.  Check out the trailer and while you’re at it, tell us what you think of this slightly NSFW…nah, just kidding. This couldn’t possibly be safer for work. In fact, call your boss over and watch it together.

Well, Pixar can do no wrong, so I’m sure this will be fantastic. The trailer looks great.

  • Fatima

I cried nearly immediately. No shame.

    • Ceballos

Me too. Now I don’t feel so bad.

Seriously though, I feel like I grew up with these movies and I absolutely can’t wait to see this. “Toy Story” is one of my favorites and I still pop it into the DVD player when I need a good laugh or want to get misty “I will go sailing no more.”

      • shan

Ditto…I am watching the trailer with my 5 year old and I couldn’t be more excited. It is definately our favorite Pixar movie.

    • irvin

Its going to be awesome Im so gonna love this, I mean my kids will love it, not me but them.
      (wipes tear away)
this is simply brings back some good ole’ memories.

    • Chris Parris

I cried as well. I was 4 when I watched these movies for the first time and I still love them. The movie comes out 6 days after my high school graduation and I’m going to see this 110%. The movie critics will be surprised to find that the majority of the audience isn’t little kids but people in their late teens and early 20’s who grew up with the movies.

    • Elle

I’m there with you with a tissue box already.

  • graeme

    awesome.

  • LibbyP

    Will a 2D version be available? I just don’t like 3D….

    • rockfan

Yep, every 3D movie releases 2D versions. They would lose millions of dollars if they didn’t. I agree with you too, I don’t like 3D either. It’s distracting.

    • irvin

i know i rather see it in 2d, not a fan of the 3d, tends to lose some of the magic.
Movies always seem to be blurry to me when in 3d

    • dave

I agree. The only movie I’ve seen in 3D was Up, and I was not really a fan of the added dimension. The colors aren’t as vibrant with the glasses on and the 3D effects aren’t that amazing anyway. 2D is much better.

  • Stacy

    where’s bo peep?

    • Urvy

1 Word- Ghostbusters 3, her voice actress is going to work on Ghostbusters 3

  • Anna

Inner giddiness breaking through the surface….holding back teeny bopper squealing…

  • Michael Martinello

I will remind you all – SHREK 3. This is going to be the biggest flop ever.

    • Jason

i will remind you – you are an idiot.
What could Shrek 3 have to do with Toy Story 3? Because they both have a 3 and are animated? That’s about where the similarities end moron. Pixar has always treated their films with care and not done things they did not think were worth while. Just look at the fact that once Disney bought Pixar, they totally scraped the work Disney had put into Toy Story 3 and started from scratch. Pixar is the most bankable name in movies and that will not change with yet another masterpiece.

      • Matt

Whoa there man… everybody is entitled to their opinion.

I love Pixar films — I really do — but I’ll be the first to say that nobody gets a free pass for having a brilliant film that I’ve never seen.

I, for one, am skeptical about this installment.

TS 1 — Toys escape from evil neighbors house to get back to their kid.

TS 2 — Toys escape from evil toy collector to get back to their kid.

TS 3 — toys escape from evil day care to get back to their… ???

      • Jason

i am not saying that they get a free pass, but your point needs to swing both ways. There is no reason to compare Toy Story 3 to a terrible movie without seeing it either. Plus, while there is room for skepticism, if anyone deserves the benefit of the doubt, it is Pixar. They have shown they can make great animation, they have shown they can do a sequel, and they have yet to produce a flop. so yeah, i am going to stick with my original post.

      • caliban821

The Toy Story films deal with the emotional relationship of child and toy. It is too soon to judge especially given Pixar’s standards and care. If the 3rd film is given the same care thematically, then it should be good

        TS1 = Is a beloved toy replacable in a child’s heart?

TS2 = The issue of the toy as plaything vs collectable

TS3 = What happens when the child grows up ie like the Velvelteen Rabbit

      • Matt

Jason — note that I didn’t compare TS3 to S3. I was simply calling you out for being a bit harsh to someone for having an opinion different from your own.

And calling this film “yet another masterpiece” without having seen it proves my point.

And Pixar isn’t flawless… While I’ll say that TS 1 & 2, The Incredibles and Up were all amazing masterpieces, A Bug’s Life, Cars, Ratatouille and Wall-E (despite and amazing first 20 minutes) were FAR from it, and in my opinion, rode on the “reviewer love” coattails of the true great works.

And btw, Pixar chose to completely rework TS3, because the origional version was being produced as bait to get the merger to go through. A Pixar production of TS3 was a contract obligation as part of the deal:

Matt-Your point is not proven at all. If you had bothered to read my second point you would see that you only seem to want to apply your point to me.
        1. if someone is going to compare Toy Story 3 to Shrek 3 which happened in the original post i responded to, they deserve to be treated harshly. You can have an opinion and usually i would let things be, but if you are going to call TS3 terrible (as Shrek 3 was) with no real basis, i repeat you are a moron.
        2. You say “And calling this film “yet another masterpiece” without having seen it proves my point.” No it really doesn’t prove your point because if you let your point work both ways you would criticize someone just as much for calling TS3 bad without seeing it, yet you don’t do that.
        3. I never said Pixar was flawless. I said they treat their films with care and “They have shown they can make great animation, they have shown they can do a sequel, and they have yet to produce a flop.” This does not mean that some films are not better than others, but all have been successful and worth watching ahead of more than 90% of the movies produced today.
        4. Finally, i know that redoing TS3 was part of their contract and originally done as a bargaining chip. The point was that they cared enough about their work to want to do it the right way. Why would they go through all the trouble only to make a less than stellar film.

All this goes back to my main point that Pixar is much more likely to produce a great Toy Story 3 than a flop and betting against anything else from Pixar is a very bad bet.

    • Dustin

no.no.no.no. Toy Story trumps Shrek every day of the week.

    • maiv

Even if it sucks, it’s still going to make bank b/c little kids don’t care what critics say. They’ll eat up anything. But I have good faith in this film.

  • Fatima

The even sadder scenario, which probably would have been the most likely in real life, is that Andy would have kept Woody and Buzz for sentimentality’s sake and split him up from the rest. Considering I practically grew up with this movie (college senior), I was nearly tortured when we sold our house and a lot of stuff had to go. The guilt!

  • BeckyB

I started crying about 10 seconds in. Gotta love Pixar!

  • Cody

While it is almost mandatory for the third film in a trilogy/series to be bad, I can see Toy Story 3 breaking that mold and blasting into new territory. Pixar doesn’t make bad films (excluding Cars).

    • Catherine

And even Cars wasn’t a “bad” film, it was just more average!
I will see this for sure!!

  • Coco

Forget the Middle East; my biggest concern is what will happen to those poor toys when Andy goes to college?

  • Mork Orton

I won’t bring my kids to see this, they are deathly afraid of these movies. They won’t even play with their toys thinking they are alive. This is the same link as Harry Potter and Devil worshiping/witchcraft. I won’t let them see or read that nonsense either.

    • Kristin

Then I feel very sad for your children. What a horrible thing to let your own fears take away from the magic of childhood. Shame on you.

    • RCB

Bring your kids to a psychiatrist. There may be something wrong with them.

    • steph

      oh my…

    • Mark

are you serious? toy story = harry potter = devil worship? wow. come out of the 19th century or backwoods Canada. if your kids are deathly afraid of a Pixar movie, then you may want to question your parenting skills or lack thereof.

      • Liz

Hey! I live in backwoods Canada! Insult! Insult! I love HP and Toy Story! I can’t wait for this movie!

      • orville

Hey, leave Canada out of it, eh? It has nothing to do with the ignorance and close-mindedness of this hopeless case.

      • Matt

Wow. Where do the insults about Canada come from? I’m pretty sure it would have been more accurate to say the “Southern States” or “Midland America” (and even THAT is presumptuous) than to say the “backwoods of Canada”. Keep in mind that our country as a whole is WAY more liberal and progressive than the majority of your states.

    • Liz

Well, you are really robbing your kids of great life lessons from Harry Potter. I have never read a better story of friendship and love through even the darkest hours of life.

      • Jane

        amen! :D

    • mikeman

congratulations. your children are idiots. parent of the year?

    • Mork Orton

Ok, so you’re telling me that the dolls in Toy Story aren’t possessed demons from Hell? Talking dolls? Satan himself has possessed each one and I won’t have my kids watch this filth. Pixar is the devil!

      • Julia

Yes, you’re right. The dolls in Toy Story are possessed by demons. I suggest you tell the authorities immediately. We’ll wait here…

      • strickens_girl

Really? REALLY?!?! You’re going to go with the fake dolls in the animated movie are all possessed by demons? You are either a troll or a moron.

    • John

This post is obviously fake. No winger would ever call themself “Mork Orton”. Nor would anyone with a God-loved soul think Pixar could be evil.

      • JMB

yes–let’s not feed the trolls, people.

      • anonymous

There is an astonishingly high number of people with internet naivete on this site.

  • RCB

    Will definitely watch TS3.

  • catlin

I cant wait for TS3! This is my favorite Disney/Pixar movie ever! Yea, I’m 21 now but I’m still a kid.

  • Turquoise

I can’t wait. The Toy Story movies are genius. I’m happy to see Jessie The Cowgirl. She’s my favorite. Too bad we have to wait until June. BTW why are people always putting Cars on blast? True it isn’t the best Pixar film. It is enjoyable. My god kids have made me watch it a million times and I still laugh and get misty eyed at parts.
