'Project Runway Talk': Epperson dishes on dubious judging ... and Lindsay Lohan!

Glug, glug, glug. Yep, I’m still trying to drink my pain away over last night’s stupid evil moronic maddening ouster of Epperson on Project Runway. Luckily, Dalton Ross was game for a little imbibing as well. So this morning, we threw our very own Oktoberfest in his office. And just as we were filling our beer steins to the brim, who should pop by but the classy, gentlemanly, and (who knew?) funny Epperson. Check out what the terrifically talented designer had to say about his elimination, this season’s ridonkulous judging, and how he might have brought more of the catty, had he known that’s how Runway rolls. Prost!

I still can’t believe Epperson got eliminated. He totally did not deserve it; & the judges, in past seasons when they weren’t crazy, always HATE ill-fitting pants! & they let 2 pairs of horrid pants go through! It makes no sense.

    • amj

Even though I wanted to see Epperson go, I did agree it wasn’t the worst fit. Those pants of Christopher’s were crazy bad and illfit.

      • Kris

I agree, I actualy preffered Epperson’s dress to those crazy pants.

  • me

I couldn’t believe Epperson was eliminated! Nicholas should have definitely been the one sent home.

  • Fmuse

3 evils show their true self

poor Epperson has nothing to lose anymore

to be honest of all the guest jugde so far Lohan is my favorite.I’m sick of critis love it but unwearable in real life.
    so long epper

    • amj

I was glad to see Epperson go to be honest.

  • Barbara

I liked Epperson and I don’t think his dress was that bad, they allowed designers with worse outfits to continue on in the show.

  • Chappel

When you consume crap like fashion shows that celebrate the shallowness and superficiality of modern society, don’t be surprised when they sometimes leave a bad taste in your mouth.

    • Tarc

What’s shallow about art? Sorry, but if you were speaking of a modeling show, or a backstabbing game show like Survivor or The Bachelor, I;d be right with you. But there is a huge difference between those shows and ones that give ARTISTS a platform for their work (So You Think You Can Dance, Project Runway). Ignornace leave a worse taste in my mouth than any PR episode.

      • Barbara

I agree, I don’t watch Survivor, Big Brother, etc. The few reality shows that I do watch, the people actually have to create something to continue on in the show and win at the end. I may not always agree with the final decision, but at least the winner did something to win.

      • nooo…

i love project runway and agree that its art in a way, but I don’t think you should put Survivor on the level of Big Brother since Survivor is vastly superior. A lot of people forget that Survivor basically jump started the genre of reality tv (which I admit has gone to the dogs) and although its not as popular as once before it still has a dedicated fan following, more than 10 million viewers a week and still gets critical acclaim. big brother is trash i admit, i have watched it and dislike it. im guessing you havent watched either show since this comparison is quite ridiculous in my opinion. if you would have said the amazing race and survivor that would have made more sense since they are both quality reality tv competitions. im sorry if i come off as defensive but i think you should actually try to better support statements like that.

    • casimir22

Actually, I watch BB, Survivor, etc., which have different focus. However, there is something not fair about PR judging. The other guy on the ‘plank’ with Epperson was a clearly less talented designer and this was another of his designs that was disaster. But PR does that all the time. Even in the Project Runway All Star Challenge, Korto, should have won. The judges appear to pick winners who will give them the most ‘after the show’ celebrity, like the “Fierce” one. Skill is secondary. So I have finally decided to stop watching. For this genre, I will stick with America’s Next Top Model, who’s judging, I think, has been fair.

    • Em

      Pretentious much?

    • amj

Why is someone who isn’t interested in Project Runway commenting on Project Runway? I wish people would get that this blog is for Entertainment discussion not judgements. If you don’t like the show at all and see no reason for any of us to either, then please, leave the blog and let us discuss without you. No disrespect meant but some taken.

      • amj

The previous comment is meant for Chappel.

  • nooo…

Nicholas or Logan should have been out!! Gah! D:

Althea, Shirin, Gordana and Carol Hannah ftw!

  • mourningrunway

Brilliant. If only the show were this entertaining again.

  • Trish

Sorry but the last design that got you booted off was really not good at all. Not sure what you were thinking Epperson. Did enjoy you on the show and sorry you did not win.

    • Marie

And you’re saying Nicholas or Logan’s outfits are actually better than Epperson’s?

    • Mad

Can you do better Trish lol

      • Wino

Putting words into Trish’s mouth, are you? LOL She didnt like the design and neither did the judges. So what? That dress was very simplistic and did resemble a halloween costume. You dont need to be a designer to recognzie a good design. DUH

  • jords

Epperson, you are immensely talented and you will be DEEPLY missed. Best of luck in the future.

  • topazbean

ARGH! No Epperson and no Ra’mon. My favourites. So annoying. We all know that the judges consult with the producers before kicking someone out, and they were clearly advised to keep in the hottie. I would have been very sorry to see Logan go, but it’s what he deserved. He’s never shone or won a challenge, just been adequate, and he failed miserably on this one. Epperson has had some absolutely rocking, brilliantly made designs. He shouldn’t have gone.

    • Mad

Yeah I didn’t want Logan to go cause he was hot lol but he definitely deserved it. Epperson is my favorite. I’m sorry but the designs come before the designers personally.

  • Amy

In the interview, Epperson came off extremely personable and down to Earth. I’m glad he was able to laugh at the Oktoberfest jokes that were made.

  • AnnaL

Hey, EW. I think you should do an article for EW Magazine hard copy on the judging atrocities this year to get Lifetime’s and Heidi’s attention.

  • Dolly

Clearly, Nicolas and Logan should have been in the bottom two. Their designs were Ugly versus the Ugliest. If the judges were too stupid to choose Nicolas, they could have flipped a coin to see which of the worst should have been seent home.

  • Just saying

I have to weigh in and agree that Epp should never have been eliminated. Nicholas had by far the worst outfit and how he got by, I will never know. Show seems somehoe off this season…especially how AWFUL Heidi looks. She is so orange and wears the worst clothes ever. I do enjoy the guest judges though.

  • Just saying

and, yes, Epperson should have certainly won with the movie genre dress too (western). Nicholas’ ice queen was hideous and cheesy- just the fabric gave me the creeps.

  • Sarah

I agree that the judging has been jacked up this season (e.g., Lindsey Lohan, Nicolas’ ice queen). Logan should have gone home, but I guess that he is eye candy or something. Epperson’s dress was certainly not the worst of that challenge. Please PR, bring Michael and Nina back, and give us back the Heidi we know and love!

    • Sarah

The Octoberfest thing was TOO funny – so glad Epperson was a good sport about it!

    • Kimmy

I agree. Nicolas or Logan should have gone though I would have at least missed Logan. I miss Nina and Michael when they are gone. I don’t like having all these new judges.

  • Lori

I am tired of these people getting so whiny and claiming that the judging was unfair. You got kicked off… deal with it. Quit being bitter because that will hurt your career more than anything!

    • Mad

Epperson actually has a prestigious career if you looked at his past designs so losing didn’t really hurt him. Being on the show alone has given him more exporsure.

  • dinsdale

I’m glad you weren’t catty Epperson! You proved that you could be classy and kind AND enjoyable to watch.

  • Joey

Dalton Ross is excruciating to watch.

  • Patty

I cant believe they voted Epperson off. Nicolas and Logan had the ugliest outfit. I cant watch this show anymore.

  • Efren

Epperson proved that being the nice guy does not equal boring.

  • waya

I was figuring Epperson would be one of the final guys but alas, he isn’t. That ouster was totally unfair!

  • Anne

What a classy guy! I am still completely shocked he is gone. This was the most egregious reality show example yet of keeping people purely for their personality and/or looks. Congratulations Heidi; you lost me as a viewer as well as countless others, I’m sure!

  • wnt2kno

It was weird that he was knocked off. He was such an agreeable personality – dont know who to root for now.

  • MzKiKi

Unbelievable. As someone said above, “first Ra’mon, now Epperson”. It’s almost as though some contestants are able to send hot-mess outfits out on that runway week after week (hello, Nicholas), and some are able to bomb horribly two weeks in a row without being penalized, but if other designers who are more talented make one mistake, they are out with the swiftness. I agree the multiple judges mess is indeed that; a mess. There is no set standard in the judging the way it is now. Was never a big Nina fan, but i sure do miss her now. At least she was consistent in her judging, even if i didn’t like the way she said some things. Never thought i’d be saying this, but i’m done with “PR” this season, and maybe for good. Good luck to the designers, and the models too.

  • MYA K

    -Two quick thoughts

I totally agree on the comments about Survivor, Big Brother, etc. Winning a grand prize because you were the biggest cutthroat, most conniving S. O. B., or some other piece of garbage is not impressive and really shameful that people would resort to that level of indignity for money and even more shameful that people think that is a quality program and award it an Emmy. As for Project Runway, now that the cat is out of the bag, I’m finished with watching it this season. Whoever wins should know they didn’t deserve it. When the judges reward crap and marvel over it, it’s as if they don’t expect the tv audience to recognize when someone trying to pull the wool over their eyes. I know garbage when I see it and PR is full of it. I do love Epperson and will seek out his fashions when shopping online and when in the city. To Project Runway, you failed miserably in delivering a quality finale by not having your most talented designer advance to the end.

    • Mad

I agree wholeheartedly MYA with everything you’ve said

  • Sarah

I still have hope that they can pull out this season and have a final 3 (?) who are talented and innovative. I have to say that I personally dislike Irina A LOT but like her designs, so it is a bit of a Catch 22. Ultimately winning should be based on who makes the best designs, and not who is the fan favorite personality-wise. I don’t think Epperson was/is the most talented of this bunch, but he certainly is more talented than Logan and Nicholas.

  • sonya

    ok so what if epperson’s

ok, so what if epperson’s dress was a lil octoberfest/////
////so what? let’s look at the construction, the quality of his work and detail was so much better than christopher’s and logan’s///come on guys(judges), really wtf?, logan pants, i could have done a better job, and i am not even a seamstress///and christophers dress omg!, so cheap looking, i was speechless, when epperson got the boot//yes he should have been in the bottom three, but to be booted off, I SMELL A DIRTY RAT//////

  • Aries

Michael Kors is the last person who should be complaining about the work of others. Has he paid attention to some of the absolutely horrid stuff his own design line puts out? I mean really — some of the stuff put out under his name is pure crap and ugly as sin. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black. Jeez.

  • LJ

As a fan of PR I was disappointed in the judging for that night’s project. Puhleeze….lots of weak designs that night if an Oktoberfest design had to be picked why isn’t it the one that was poorly sewn and ill fitting.
