Am really liking the show and think Kevin Williamson is doing a great job, but can’t help but wonder how awesome it would have been if Joss Whedon had done this instead of Dollhouse…

At the rate this show is eating through characters LOL they’re going to have to keep introducing more quickly. I’m guessing we saw two new ones last night – Mean Girl and Creepy Boy With Old Car Who the Camera Stayed On Too Long.

It might have been just me, but I didn’t think that guy was particularly homely, nor was his car that bad. Must be because I don’t live in the CW world.

Loved this episode! Best so far and I’m hoping it means more good growth to come. I’ve not read the books but I am loving the show and I hope it only keeps getting better.

Great episode yes Jasmine Guy is not old enough to be a GRANDMOTHER of a teenager. Caroline going through the house was creepy and why is she being such a bitch to her mother(whats the backstory there). Glad Vicki’s gone…Jeremy can do much better. Her low self esteem was gettin on my nerves. Can’t wait till next week!

I’m really not looking to argue or anything here, but the people read the books years ago need to shut up about the freaking changes already. Yes, I get that’s it disappointing. Trust me, it’s happened to me more than once, and I was pissed, but I got over it. I’ve read the books. In my personal opinion, they sound like a bad soap opera. Elena’s a total b*tch, and it’s so biased toward Stefan that I don’t even see the point of stringing along Damon into the romance. And even if they could stretch the materials in the books, how long could that last? They can’t just spend a chunk of episodes centering around Elena and Stefan and their ooey, gooey relationship. Damon didn’t even come in until waaay later in The Awakening. The changes they’ve made are good (aside from maybe the Renaissance thing. I thought the Civil War background was too True Blood rip-off). We have to remember that the show is BASED on the novels. There’s no promise in that word for complete and utter adherance to every single detail of the books. I really think you guys should try to seperate the two, as silly as that sounds.

I love the changes. The books would not make a good television series if they stuck to strictly to them. It would have ended up like a soap opera, with the plot lines dragging on and on over years because there just wasn’t enough there. I like how each episode shows a lot of action and character development. And I think the characters are definitely more likeable in the show than the book, except that they left out Meredith and she was dope. I think this show gets better and better every week. But I still love the books and what they mean to me. You CAN love both equally if you want to, changes and all.

@Dianne Thank you so much for saying that. I read the first book and was completely turned off. Elena in the book is selfish, snobbish, and hunts down any boy that someone else may want. She treats people like slaves. Ugh..if they put that on tv the ratings would be close to TBL. I can’t wait until next epi!

I bet they turn Vicki into a vampire. That’s why Damon talked about how it was done last week. Then Jeremy, being the dopey in love stoner, will want to become one as well.

observations: 1. jasmine guy, looks like a hag; 2. uncle zach, stupid is as stupid does: “i’m sorry, I thought that was his favorite scotch”; 3. stefan still hasn’t learned to pick up his head when he talks?; 4. Caroline’s dad, still in memphis with stephen? and 5. is bonnie’s underbite a bother anyone else? does she get that from grandmom J.?

    best show on tv!

I actually loved the episode–the only thing that irked me was that awful “1950s” news report. Umm I know it’s not completely realistic, but is that meant to be a news reel? in the 50s? Or a totally modern looking tv news report? from the 50s? it doesn’t work or seem real, either way.

I don’t mind Vicki but it seems like she has to become a vamp at this point. Love the witch, I agree Jasmine Guy is too young but I love her and was so thrilled to see her as the Grandma I didn’t care (I saw hername in the credits but forgot to keep an eye out for her till she appeared).

Besides she’s a witch. Maybe she ages weirdly :P

Anyway a lot of stuff came together tonigth, glad they’re not dragging things out too much and I love the atmosphere and mood of this.

When Caroline slept the light of the moon through the medallion made a pretty pattern on her bedsheetsl. Does that mean anything?

    • chattypatra

I noticed that pattern too. Looks like a witch’s symbol to me. So, maybe the witches can combat the vampires? I can’t wait to find out!

  • rosebud

Ya know what I just like the show, but really glad Vicki is gone, way too much of her. Glad Jeremy is off her, I hope for good.

  • wen

Damon is the the hottest- most exciting vampire -keeps me and the crowd watching every week -rock on Ian S!

  • Rubi

I totally vote for Stefan shirtless. My friend and I had a fit. I mean seriously I think even Matt had his shirt off! So unfair. I admit the episode was no fun without Damon, but we still got to see bits of him. Even if he killed Uncle Zach and Vicki (which I am still wondering if he did kill her). I really can’t wait for the next episode! Just a few more days to go.

  • Anita

My dvr didn’t record this episode. I was soooo mad. I’ve been trying to catch up to what happened. I’m glad to know I didn’t miss too much of Damon. He is the sexiest vampire ever! I want his shirt off not Stefan’s!
