'Sex and the City 2': Will Anthony and Stanford tie the knot?

Categories: Film, Sex and the City

sex-and-the-city-wedding_lPhotos of Kim Cattrall in a wedding dress may have been just a way to throw nosy fans off the scent of the Sex and the City sequel. The latest rumor to emerge from the lock-tight SATC 2 shooting vault is that Anthony and Stanford will get married. (Unnamed insiders are credited with the scoop. EW’s request for comment from New Line went unanswered.)

But let’s indulge for a moment: If this story is, in fact, true, what a long way these two have come. To refresh your memory, Anthony and Stanford first met at Carrie’s fashion show debut, where the two were pretty much appalled by each other — Anthony, because Stanford wasn’t the Ed Harris lookalike Charlotte had promised, and Stanford, because Anthony skipped out before the end of the date. I know they reconciled over the seasons, but there needs to be some major romance before I’m buying that Charlotte and Carrie’s respective besties are so in love that they tie the knot.

To add some glitter to the mix, whispers indicate that Liza Minelli has signed on to be a part of the wedding and that the SATC team is now trying to get Barbra Streisand on board.

Can you say faaabulous? Do you like the idea of an Anthony-Stanford wedding? Sound off in the poll and in the comments!

Actually, I believe they met at Margaret Cho’s fashion show in which Carrie fell on the ground, many seasons before what you’re describing. Nice try though!

    • bea

That WAS Carrie’s fashion show debut as a model, Margaret Cho’s character had asked her to appear in the show that featured real models and New York celebs. Season 4, Episode 2, “The Real Me”. Nice try though!

    • Little Lady

Calm down! That is what the writer was referring to. It state’s “Carrie’s fashion show debut”. That is the same episode.

  • paige

wow I dont even remember Stanford having a line of dialogue on the first movie… I dont buy their relationship at all… Cant they get Madonna to cameo?????????????

  • Galaxygrrl

They did met at the fashion show. You got the Ed Harris part right though. Anthony was also upset that Stanford did not get the difference between an Italian and a Sicilian

  • Galaxygrrl

Also, I’m not sure about this story line because I just don’t really buy it. I would believe Samantha as a mother more actually

    • Nick T

      Don’t say such horrible things!

  • Megan

Exactly! Smith’s play was when Carrie sets up Charlotte with the guy who works at Prada :)

  • Recentlyme

Hmm, I don’t think they met at Smith’s play…Wasn’t it at Carrie’s fashion show?

  • Kelsey

I’m pretty sure it was the earlier fashion show where Carrie fell, but whatever.
I’m not terribly inclined to believe it, just because they have such a snarky/antagonistic history. I guess stranger things have happened, but I hope they don’t shoehorn it in as a demographic nod without trying to make it believable.
I’m actually believing Samantha in a wedding dress more!

  • Una

Well, they *did* kiss in the New Year’s Eve scene in the first movie, so it’s not completely far-fetched.

  • CK

The two of them seem so mis-matched. There would have to be some scenes showing that they are a compatable couple for a marriage to be believable. Now Samantha getting married….hmmmmm

  • Mavis

I still don’t buy them as a couple at all! The blog says that they reconciled over the course of the show. I don’t even think that is accurate. They always seemed to hate each other anytime they were in the same scenes. The whole Stanford/Anthony storyline (along with Samantha’s) was just plain bad and I don’t think honored the longtime viewers.

  • crispy

I heard this rumor about a month ago. And it was dumb then and it’s still dumb to think that just because they’re gay, they’re going to couple up.

  • RubenS

No, no, no! I didn’t like it in the first movie. That was total BS. What happened to Marcus? I thought he and Stanford were already married. I’d rather see Marcus then Smith. The years have not been good Jason Lewis.

  • OvenMitt

I’m still kind of wondering what happened to Stanford’s boyfriend, Marcus. Last I saw of him, they had reconciled at the gay prom during season 6, part 1. Then he was gone in the movie. I always rooted for that relationship, because Stanford was so insecure and felt sub-standard in the gay community, looks-wise. Marcus was like his dream guy. I know, I know, REALLY old news…..

  • Steve Abramson

    No. No. No.
C’mon – how many people were absolutely upset over the “unexplained absence” of Standford’s boyfriend in the first movie. Last we saw Stanford and his boyfriend (that former pay-for-play guy) made up. He disappeared and Stanford became single in the first movie (best we saw in the first film). To jump them into holy$hit matrimony – I yell “FAKE!”

  • Nick

The other rumor floating around is that Liza Minnelli is covering Beyoncé’s “Single Ladies” for the Sex and the City movie too. How funny. That would be awesome.

  • Maddi

Oh ew, I hope not. It reeks of “we have two gay characters, lets marry them!” despite the fact that they hated each other in-show.

  • Sina

NO NO NO!! I loved Stanford and Marcus. They were so cute. Stanford was so insecure and he was so happy to have such a sexy boyfriend, he would show him off all the time. I was so pissed he wasn’t in the first movie. Don’t these idiots know that the viewers of the movie watched the series! I remember Marcus was at that dinner when everyone gathered together before Carrie went to Paris. They were together then. The first movie sucked balls, now this.

  • matt

ugh, i hope not. stanford is my least favorite gay character in the history of television.

  • Victoria Bradley

If they do go there, they better provide the romantic build-up to make it believable. SATC always made a point that Stanford and Anthony were both gay were NOT attracted to one another. In fact, they made a point during Charlotte’s misguided attempt to set them up that, just because she knew two gay men, those guys weren’t automatically going to become a couple. The kiss during the first movie just seemed to be more of “Its New Year’s and we’re standing here, what the hell.” SATC would be totally selling out just to set them up because they are the only two regular gay characters from the show. HOWEVER, given the right set-up, I might be able to buy them as a couple (I always kind of felt that Stanford’s extreme dislike of Anthony hid a secret attraction, though I never envisioned Anthony as the marrying type).

As a HUGE Sex and the City fan (see my blog: http://www.nealbinnyc.wordpress.com) I have to say I agree, if there is a wedding, which according to my sources -there is!, us fans need a story to go along with it.

SATC is known for the evolution of relationships between characters. Don’t let us down by putting this in a movie just for a twist!
