Who else wants a micro pig immediately?

article-0-06B810C3000005DC-595_634x337Celebrity pet trend of the week — no, it’s not Jessica Simpson’s missing dog – it’s teacup-sized micro pigs! Mr. Ron Weasley, Rupert Grint, has one. These little piggies cost about $1,100 and weigh only 9 oz. at the time of birth. I already have visions of toting one around in a purse. But it seems they grow up to be 65 lbs. and can live 18 years. Not sure I have a purse that big. Still, it’s a lot smaller than George Clooney’s dearly departed Vietnamese potbellied pig Max, who weighed 300 lbs.

Still, after seeing out this photo at the Daily Mail’s website, I think these are the cutest pets I’ve seen since that cat drinking from the kitchen tap  Who else wants one?

Uh, me. I saw it and immediately posted the link on Facebook saying “I WANT!”

  • Sara

Also, you have an extra “> in the link to the DailyMail website, so it’s not working. :)

I think it’s terrible what we’re doing to nature. There’s a fine line between doing research for the well being of our species and altering nature for profit.

    • Sharon

You say that like they’re altering their DNA in a lab or something. They’re just crossbreeds. Crossbreeding within a species happens all the time.

I’d like to see what the full grown ones look like. They say pigs are very smart and can be litterbox trained.

    • bully-lass

yes, but we engineer animals all the time only to mistreat and ultimately slaughter them for food. At least these little guys will give people insight into how smart and loveable pigs are…maybe bacon will be a little less appealing!!

  • silvershyne

@Sara – I did the same thing! My friends and I have already named our imaginary ones :)

  • Em

I agree with you, Jake. And yet, I want one.

  • Liz

I would like on! I’ve always wanted a pet pig!

  • lawyergirl77

    Piiigggiiiiieeeeesssss!!

    *cough*

I mean, uh, yeah, they’re really cute. And I haven’t always wanted a piggie for a pet, no sirree, not me…

  • Amanda B.

I wonder if they’re hard to take care of. But man, they’re sure cute!

  • a person

I WANT ONE!! they are adorable!!! i would probably even name it Pigwidegeon (or however u spell Ron’s owls name in Harry Potter) because Rupert Grint has one than u could have a pig named Pig! :)

  • Jelana

Um, they’re cute, but, I eat bacon. I could never have a pet pig.

    • ktwolf

If I had a pet pig, I could never eat bacon again. :-(

      • paige

I want a pig and even if i had one i will still eat bacon… i own fish, that dont mean i stopped eating fish

  • Nathan

Those little bas*ards cause swine flu!

  • ktwolf

I want TWO! They are the cutest little creatures I’ve ever seen. The video is deceptive, though — it concentrates on the babies, but doesn’t really show much about what they’re like when they’re adults. People who adopt pets should have a good idea of what they’re getting themselves into.

    • Sara

If you go to the DailyMail site linked in the article, it says the adults get to around 65lbs and 14 inches high. 65lbs sounds a bit big, but 14 inches high makes them sort of small-dog-size.

  • Callia

    But can they be housetrained?

    • Stacie

Yes, they can be litter trained or pad trained. I saw these little things on Tyra and they said that the little piggies will go to the bathroom usually always in the same spot and they are very easily trained! They’re smarter than dolphins =]

  • paige

    I WANT!

  • JerseyGirl

Come on! Whatever happened to going down to your local animal shelter to adopt a pet? Sure these piggies are cute, but what’s going to happen when they reach their full size and weight? Or when the next “pet trend” comes around? These pigs will just become the next victims in our celebrity-obsessed culture.
