'Leave It To Lamas': Lorenzo, Shayne, and Co. ain't no Cleavers

Lorenzo-Lamas_Family_lE! is looking to mine some Lamas drama with its new reality show Leave It To Lamas. The show follows the high-strung lifestyle of Shayne Lamas, who won The Bachelor: London Calling in 2008, and with it, Brit-hunk Matt Grant‘s hand in marriage. That made-for-TV romance lasted about two months before the couple split. As she notes in the Oct. 11 (11p.m. ET) premiere: “That one didn’t last.”

Shayne shockingly doesn’t seem interested in a rebound boy toy — and on a more (potentially) wholesome note, the debut episode revolves around her efforts to reconnect her brother AJ with their father, who no longer speaks with him. That father, Lorenzo Lamas, is no stranger to TV himself: He was a soap opera heartthrob in the ’80s (Falcon Crest), a bad-ass Renegade cop in the ’90s, and has starred in scores of B-movies like Snake Eater II: The Drug Buster and Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus. Is Lorenzo Lamas excited about returning to television?

“The only reason I decided to do the show was to help my daughter with her career,” he told us flatly. “That’s it. That’s why I agreed to do the show, that’s why I’m putting myself out there.” Yet much of the show focuses on Shayne’s less-than-subtle attempts to reconcile her brother and father, and Lorenzo doesn’t seem totally averse to that possibility. “I understood that [AJ] would also be on the show. So in the back of my mind I’m thinking this might be a good deal: help my daughter with her career and have a chance at least to talk to my son about our problem,” he says.

Further complicating matters is Shayne and AJ’s mother Michelle (Lorenzo’s ex-wife), who at times comes off as a bit flustered. In one scene, the siblings walk in on her topless with her chest in the refrigerator, and she simply explains: “I’m hot! It’s the menopause thing.” Such moments seem to indicate Shayne is not only “the nucleus of the show,” as her father opines, but also the  sane guiding force for the entire family. But more importantly, do we get to see the rest of the Lamas family baring all to the world? Lorenzo said there were a few instances when he asked for the cameras to be turned off, and it wasn’t when he was arguing with his son — it was his ex-wife.

“There was a tirade,” he admits. “For the most part I’ve gotten along with [Michelle] very well over the years, but as any couple that has had their difficulties understands, there are triggers that can be pulled that release old behaviors. A couple of them got pulled. And my behavior was less than chivalrous.”

With his daughter using an entire reality show to bring him and his son back together, is the reconciliation a foregone conclusion? “Nothing is inevitable with relationships,” Lorenzo told us. “I’ve come to learn that. But there’s a possibility. And with possibility there’s hope. And I do hope honestly that we can re-establish a relationship.”

:::eyeroll::: Something like this is exactly WHY she did The Bachelor…to further (?) her career. And the Shane fans were all “NOOO! That’s not why!!”. Whatev.

  • Callia

What career is she trying to further? I mean, what does she DO? Is she an actress? A model? I’m not making fun of her here (not that it would be unjustified), I just honestly want to know.

    • Glory

Hence my (?). Because I have no idea either. I THINK when she was on The Bachelor it used to say “actress” under her name. But I have absolutely no idea where she’s “acted”. (and the ” marks DO suggest sarcasm, btw)

I’d rather watch “Leave It To Llamas” than this pointless butt sludge. Reality TV continues its downward descent to Hell…

  • Dawson

Shayne was on more than a dozen episodes of General Hospital.

  • Kris

wow its really weird seeing someone you went to school with since elementary to high school be all famous and crap. i mean, i saw it coming cuz of her dad and all but come on…BORING.

    • Dyanna

      Boring, how about just LAMEASS

  • nancy

This show seems so rediculous like who does she think she is… she’s a nobody.

  • dinsdale

Lorenzo Lamas seems relatively sane and together. And he was the lightweight son of a more famous father…now his daugher is yet a generation removed, which leads to a sort of logarithmic lightweight trajectory. You can trace the decline of the american celebrity through this family.

I love Lorenzo Lamas. He is one of the best actors of all time. That show Renegade was a classic. Reno and Bobby Sixkiller were a great fighting team. He does not get the respect he deserves. What happened to Dutch Dixon anyway? I used to tape the show every week. God Bless Lorenzo Lamas!

    • Morgan

Hey Vince (from 10/08/09) what if I told you Renegade is coming back – with the same cast … and more? Would you watch?

  • Amy

    THIS SHOW IS STUPID!

  • Dyanna

I am so embarrassed and pissed off that we DVR’d this show. Shayne is just a friggen hot mess. Feel bad that Lorenzo has reached this level of reality tv. I enjoy My Antonio because he is at least real (In this sort of tv rating way). But Ryan Seacrest needs to pull this LAMEASS and the whole Kardashin’ programs, and ah… quickly.

  • Dyanna

And BTW I have only seem about 2.5 minutes of this sh@t. On the East Coast and it started at 11. I feel like I am going through hell!! Changed the channel to Discovery, but sort of feel dirty now watching the animals because Shayne is such a dirty dirty dirty, oh if you didn’t get it dirty ass pig!!!

    • Chris

I thought this show was horribly staged and very very lame!!!! hm, lameass should be the name. If Shayne becomes famous from this I am giving up on Hollywood, and the E channel!!! I mean who would invest in this show????? Poor Has been father and ex-wife that is a complete mess. The only one I have hope for is Dakoda.

  • Dyanna

No Cleavers? How about NO Clever!!!

  • Maggie

I don’t watch reality TV, but curousity got the best of me when the ads showed how much the son looks like the father. I watch the whole show, did they say why Lorenzo hates his son?
