I loved Eliza as Faith, so for me, it isn’t her acting that bugs me. The premise of the show never really captured my attention, although I thought it was getting a lot better towards the end of season 1. And the episode they never aired was the best of all! The premise of that episode is something I would have liked to see throughout the rest of the series. I just find it really boring. The season premiere took me a whole Saturday to watch because I just kept on getting bored and distracted and kept turning off the DVR. And this is from someone who absolutely oved BSG, particularly Helo and Lee.
Fox kills good sci-fi. Period.
Remember Space: Above and Beyond? Firefly anyone? Dollhouse at least got to season two.
Fox can screw itself for not supporting awesome sci-fi.
They treat it more like “sci-if” If it does well, we’ll keep it. Oh never mind, it’s on a Friday…
I agree with the guy that said Topher isn’t as funny as the writers think he is. I don’t like him, Eliza, Harry Lennix, and Tahmoh. I DO like Dichen, Enver and (love) Amy Acker. I’m still DVRing it (never watch TV on Fridays because it’s party time) but compared to shows like Dexter, True Blood, Lost and, to a lesser degree, Fringe, Flash Forward, and the upcoming ‘V’, I’m just not that interested. A Buffy or Angel spinoff involving Spike, Willow (impossible due to HIMYM) or someone and I’d be so all over it.
“…the blame can’t be put on Whedon’s shoulders alone.” — oh yes, it can and should be put on Whedon’s shoulders (okay, and the lead actors Dushku and Penikett who are AWFUL but Fox doesn’t deserve blame in this case). Simply put, it’s a crappy show. Has been since episode 1. It won’t get better and the faster this dies the better. Even those Whedon fanboys are giving up on this.
Amy Acker has another show starting early in 2010. It’s unfortunate that that commitment won’t allow her back on Dollhouse, and by the time she’d be available Dollhouse will be dead. I’m a huge Whedon fan (although I didn’t watch Firefly at all), and I enjoy most eps of Dollhouse. I just wish that they could factor in the people who DVR/Hulu a show into ratings.
Love Eliza’s acting. Why are the writers expanding Ballard’s role, send him back and bring in other villians. Boyd would have talked Echo down.More Sierra, Adelle, Claire, Topher, Victor and Boyd.
Rumors are going around that the Dollhouse is going to cancelled, I hope this is not true. How about the return of the villians that threaten the house. How about retiring Ballard. It would be nice to see the whole cast participate in these episodes.
I basically started following this because I was fascinated by the Paul/Mellie relationship. Unfortunately, that seems to have been removed now. Sorry to hear that it’s having problems — I wish that at least one Whedon work could make it on Fox — but I agree with other comments about its weaknesses, especially with regard to the lead character and the more interesting supporting characters.
It will be a great shame if it is canceled.
I disagree with all the comments about Eliza Dushku’s acting. I think she’s good and there are many scenes where she really shines. For example, though the plot of ep2 fell a little short ED’s acting was great.
I also agree the the other cast members are under used, especially Enver Gjokaj (Victor) who was fantastic in Ep3, and has shone in all his roles.
I think the key problem is that we haven’t been able to connect with the characters – Echo is a blank so you can’t get to know her. The characters who stay the same each episode – Boyd, Topher, Adelle, Paul – are all morally suspect so it is hard to connect with them. What they’re doing in s2 is giving Echo more of a personality in an attempt to fix this problem.
The themes of the Dollhouse are fantastic. I just hope I get to see some of these explored further and even resolved.
I LOVE Eliza as an actor. I don’t think she’s given a chance to develop her character since in essence, she’s a doll. Recently, the fact that she’s been catching on to the whole game makes it intriguing, bec. now we finally have something to hold onto, and we can kinda get attached to her REAL character. I think the idea of the show is brilliant and different I loved the last episode! I hope dollhouse stays on – I’m curious how this whole thing will end.
I dunno, maybe a romance between someone and echo will make us care for her more.
Dollhouse is failing because it is BuffyLite. Bionic supergirl? Check. Semi-creepy older paternal figure with a dark past? Check. Unappealing sidekicks who awkwardly try to make out when nobody is looking? Check. Evil Empire-ish bad guys who control everything and see you when you’re sleeping? Check. It’s Buffy without the built-in goth/geek support network. And the later seasons of Buffy were awful as well.
Dollhouse was one of the most clever and conceptualized shows ive seen in a long time. Its a shame that the world is dumbing down television so much, people cant recognize a masterpiece! The cancellation of this show was the biggest upset to me in a long time….and people have serious issues with eliza dushku for some reason…maybe its jealous girls or severely messed up guys, but she is very nice to look at and has the acting chops to match. I guess if you cant recognize good intellectual television you wouldnt be able to notice a good actress either! So Sad.
