'30 Rock' season 4 teaser clips: Is this the best sitcom on TV?

Our long national nightmare is nearly over. That’s right, 30 Rock is finally returning on Thursday, Oct. 15th. What’s in store for the new season? Will Jack Donaghy still be smitten with the loco Salma Hayek? Will Liz Lemon find true love, or at least the perfect comfort food? Will Jenna fight off newer, blonder, younger castmates on The Girlie Show? Will Kenneth the page be shanghaied into more of Tracy Jordan’s surreal hair-brained schemes with Grizz and Dot Com? And what’s Brian Williams got to do with all of this? Damned if we know. But a new teaser from NBC tantalizingly hints at the answers to at least a couple of these questions. Take a peek at these snippets from the fourth season and let us know what you think. Are you looking forward to the new season? Is it the best sitcom on TV? And if not, then what is?

It’s a solid but ridiculously overrated show. The Office is way better…and even “Old Christine” gives it a run for its money too.

I believe 30 Rock in overrated. It’s very uneven and often disjointed. Some shows are good, some just plain stupid. I LOL at EVERY episode of The Office. Can’t believe it hasn’t won an EMMY.

        It has. In 2006.

      • Rachel

But it did! In 2006 for best comedy. I used to feel exactly like you but lately my love for The Office has been waning. I think 30 Rock is the best sitcom in terms of pure comedy, but The Office has more emotional connection for viewers.

No, it’s not the best sitcom on TV. It’s extremely overrated, as is Tina Fey. The best sitcom on TV is How I Met Your Mother, followed by The Office, and Modern Family so far has had a strong showing.

How I met your mother?! I don’t think so… it has the actors but the story line is so desperate it’s annoying.

I agree — How I Met Your Mother is the best sitcom on TV.

I agree that 30 Rock is very disjointed, which makes sense given Fey’s background in sketch material. I feel like it’s the kind of show that “throw everything at the wall and see what sticks”. It’s not a show that develops characters or even makes sense.

Community and The Office are both much better. 30 Rock stopped trying hard after season 1.

    • John

Season 1 of the show wasn’t even that good. Season TWO, however, was brilliant, especially the five absolutely spectacular post-strike episodes. Season three, very solid, especially the Harry and the Hendersons episode.

30 Rock isn’t my favorite sitcom on TV, but it’s the best. I know that sentence doesn’t make any sense, but as much as I love HIMYM and The Office, I watch 30 Rock and just think, “It’s not even fair how good this show is.”

    • M

I agree. As far as general brilliance, it is the best sitcom.

Looks like another great season is on its way!

      agree they don’t

  • Josh

What are you people talking about?? 30 Rock is hysterical. I love The Office too and could not pick one over the other but 30 Rock is every but as good and vice versa. Laughed my as* off watching that clip, can’t wait!!

    • Heather

completely agree, I love both!!! Maybe the Office a little more. :)

  • dave

30 Rock is a very good show but I agree The Office is FAR superior…

  • The Office is soooo much better.

I do not understand where this 30 Rock backlash is coming from. I know that Season 3 was not as strong as Season 2, but it’s still one of the best shows on TV. I love HIMYM and The Office too, but 30 Rock for me is the one can’t miss comedy, and I think it deserves all the accolades it gets.

    • John

The backlash is simple: as the show gets more attention, more and more people who aren’t fans become exposed to it and start to feel passionately AGAINST it for getting that attention.

  • 30 Rock is sooooo overrated….

    …as is Tina Fey!
EW must own stock in this along with Twilight and Jon & Kate.

  • Michele

VERY over rated, I think it’s far from being the best sitcom on TV. Give me a break. Seems like if Tina Fey is attached to anything people automatically gush all about her. How I Met Your Mother is way better, funnier, better written. As well as the The Office. I Know it’s not really a sitcom, but It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia also completely trumps 30 Rock in my opinion. Seinfeld on crack!

  • Tina Fey is sooooo overrated?

I might have to agree with that.
Season one was decent and the last couple have just been average. I never understood the hype behind it.

I think it has been the best comedy on television for a few years now. But I also think it’s great for the sake of networks that so many new shows have premiered this year that I hope will be able to give 30 Rock some competition. I’m massively enjoying Modern Family and I think Community is finding its place. Considering how slim the pickings have been from prior seasons, I’m just glad that we have so many shows to choose from in this discussion. And that can’t be a bad thing.
