That’s right, Joss Whedon’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer spin-off debuted 10 years ago tonight. And, really, I can’t think of a better way to pay tribute than this clip, which combines two of my favorite things: the Angel opening credits — which, for my money, are the best of the Whedonverse — and a certain vampire who loves to cut a rug.
So, happy birthday, Angel. Thanks for a bevy of memorable moments — some of which we detailed in our 25 Best Whedonverse Episodes gallery — and thanks for proving that it takes (a) soul to get down.

one of the greatest shows ever
Yes, a great, great show. Rest in Peace Andy Hallett and Glenn Quinn.
I miss Angel. He was much more interesting than any of these current Twilight vampires. I cannot get myself to watch Bones because I would just see Angel, not the character he plays on Bones.
Agreed. I know Boreanaz is a lot happier in his Bones role, but he’ll always be Angel to me.
And Angel could SO kick Bill’s ass from True Blood.
I would even dare to say he’d kick Eric’s ass too! I mean, he’s Angel!
Actually, from episode 1 of Bones, I don’t see David B. as Angel at all. It’s really a sign of his skill as an actor that each character is so separate from each other. He plays both of them very well.
I was worried whether or not I could see Boreanaz as anyone else as Angel, by the first 10 minutes of Bones, he was Seely Booth and I was hooked. Shows the talent he has, two successes on television, not everyone can do that.
I agree. I have never seen one as the other but I did secretly wish that he would have pulled out these dance moves when the “Dead Man’s Dance Party” promo for Bones was out last month.
At first I wondered the same thing … but (and I’ve watched Bones since it premiered), it didn’t happen. I don’t see Angel when I watch. I see Seeley Booth.
I found Buffy infinitely annoying (I really didn’t need to be reminded that high school was hell, and Buffy as a character is excessively whiny), but I ADORED Angel. There were some magnificent, defining moments during its five season run. I still laugh til I can’t breathe during the Smile Time episode. Happy Birthday, Angel!
Happy birthday! I actually just looked at my Angel Boxset the other day and said to myself that I need to rewatch it. This has definitely put me in the mood.
I……….miss……….ANGEL:(
By far, one of the best shows ever created.
Happy birthday, Angel! I was so devastated when it got canceled. It’s still one of my favorite shows EVER. Must go watch a few eps now…
Happy 10 year Anniversary Angel, you were, by far, the best show out there and you are terribly, terribly missed!!!!!
One of my favorites – infinite times better than Buffy ever was but sadly the show never really got to end on its own terms rather at the behst of crappy studio execs that would nt know a good TV show if it bit them in the ass….but I’m not bitter. Happy birthday Angel!!
Mmm. Best theme song ever.
The Angel opening credits finally made me realize what Dollhouse is missing- a shot of all the other characters walking purposefully behind Echo at the end of the credit sequence!
What a lovely show. Taken from us way too soon. I still get my David fix….but it isn’t the same. Angel forever.
David rocks as Angel and he rocks as Seeley Booth!
David simply rocks
David amazing actor, whatever role he is in he makes it is own. Love him as Angel and Booth
Love it! Also surprises me that Alexis Denisof hasn’t been picked up as a regular on another show. Loved him as Wesley.
He’s on Dollhouse this season.
