'Glee' sneak peek: The boys do Bon Jovi and Usher

This week’s episode of Glee (Wednesday, 9 p.m. ET, Fox) features a “girl vs. boy glee-off.” I’m hoping the fact that Columbia, the label that will release the first official soundtrack from the show, Glee: The Music, Volume 1, on Nov. 3, has sent around this sneak peek clip of the boys’ Bon Jovi-Usher mash-up does not mean they win. Don’t get me wrong: I think “It’s My Life” is an underrated song and will now be singing it for the rest of the day. And I love to see Artie (Kevin McHale) singing lead on “Confessions Pt. II.” But it hurts me to watch Finn (the otherwise adorable Cory Monteith) try to dance.

Without seeing the ladies’ performance, who do you think will win the battle of the sexes?

I really liked that; and I agree that watching Cory Monteith dance is a bit painful… I still feel like the girls are going to win.

Their song choices are definitely inspired. I’d say more but I don’t want to spoil anyone who doesn’t want to know!

More than the dancing is those awful facial expressions! Monteith (Finn) was too over the top here, in a bad way.

      • Anonynmous

they were over the top because they took the weird pills that made them hyper

I think it’s more painful to hear Cory Monteith sing. Dude’s got a horrible voice. Wish they had cast someone with at least a half decent voice to play Finn.

      • shane

Would also like to see Kevin Mchale sing more. He’s easily got the best voice out of the guys.

    • Melissa

I think the whole awful dancing and faces of Quinn were because of the decongestants they all took.

      • Aurora

yes, it was because of the decongestants but the comments were made BEFORE the show aired, so they didn’t know that =]

  • Nikkido

    Finn goofy smile irks me.

  • Dennis

Columbia released this clip? That’s interesting, considering that this mash-up isn’t even on the track listing for the CD. Either way, I hope they release these mash-ups digitally in full versions, unlike “Poison” and “I Wanna Sex You Up” (which I’m still crossing my fingers for).

I have to believe that Cory Monteith is dancing like that intentionally. But that arrangement is awesome.

    • Molly

I really do hope that Cory Monteith’s dancing is intentional, but either way it makes me cringe.

      • Jackie

I haven’t watched the clip because I’m at work and I can’t, but sadly, I think the bad dancing is real. I believe I read in an interview or article somewhere where he’s even admitted he’s a terrible dancer. Oh well, there’s one in every high school and one in every performing group.

Oh my goodness that was awesome. I also love to see Artie taking lead! Kevin McHale has a great voice (and some awesome wheelchair moves too; LOVED the kicks). I look forward to seeing what the girls will do. :D

    • Gretchen

      agreed! LOVED IT!

The audio of the ladies doing Halo/Walking on Sunshine is on YouTube. It sounds just as awesome, but without seeing the choreography, it’s hard to say who’ll win. I am a fan of Finn’s awkward dancing though.

    • Callia

I’ve heard both now, and I think it’ll be a toss-up. I agree re: Finn’s bad dancing, and it’s great to see Artie get a lead!

  • lam

I’m still holding out hope that Cory really can dance, but it has to be developed over the season… you know, so they can win regionals…

  • Briana

    I can’t wait until Wednesday!

I’ve always thought that his dancing was intentionally like this – he can sing, he’s a good football player, he’s tall, he’s good looking – but he can’t really dance. it’s a flaw, like his being premature, and therefore i think, intentional. even if not, it works for me.

  • Cheryl Wilson

I really enjoyed that, but I am going to say the girls will win. How could they not with Rachael’s great voice?

  • Mike

I can’t figure out if it is on purpose or not. He’s kind of goofy cute on the show but together cute in interviews. But the dancing is so – naturally bad and awkward, I don’t think its pretend. He just doesn’t seem to have any natural grace – even when he ‘walks’ in the dance numbers, its more like lumbering along.

    • moonbeam

Yes! And that is what makes his character so believable and likeable. If he got out there and danced like Justin Timberlake it just wouldn’t make sense. Finn is a goofy, airheaded and sincere football jock. I love the way he lumbers unselfconciously about on stage – he doesn’t care what he looks like, he’s enjoying himself.

i feel u on that. i also feel that if more people thought like him atleast once in their lives the world would be a better place. The reason we do the things that we do are more times than not geared by what others think whether its concsiously or subconcsiously. ITS MY LIFE….. nuff said

      • THICKEMADAME

BTW…. i absolutely LOVE Mike. He’s got some great moves, i think he is handsome and i love his smile.

  • LauraT

I’m hoping that Artie’s solo time means the girls won’t fall victim to Rachel the spoiled diva. I want to hear Mercedes and Tina sing more! Also, is it just me or is Artie a better singer than Finn?

    • Ash Bash

It’s not just you! I think Artie is a better singer, too! And you’re right. I want to hear more Tina and Mercedes!

  • FabK

Intentional or not, I love his bad dancing.

  • Tarc

I always hear the beginning of the guys songs on Glee and cringe… and then immediately get won over over the next two minutes. It’s eerie, but I love it!

  • DC

The bad dancing by Finn is painful and Finn was easily the worst dancer in the football dancing segment for “Single Ladies” too. (Unfortunately he was in the middle).

I just don’t think he is coordinated. Doesn’t make me like the show less, just reminds me of the Sean Penn character in Footloose. He couldn’t dance either!
