Want to see Eliza Dushku virtually shoot you through your computer screen? If the answer is “yes,” then you might be a hardcore enough Dollhouse fan to download the new desktop app Fox released last night. Called “Virtual Echo”, the app activates nine different Echo personae—like “assassin” or “dream date”—that traipse across your desktop. (Presumably the “assassin” is the one that pulls the gun, but who’s to say?) Also included is the Augmented Reality Echo—a card icon you print out and hold in front of your webcam for hours of hologramy fun.
Who out there has downloaded the app already? What did you think? And on a related matter—what’s up with Dollhouse‘s faltering ratings?

As to Dollhouse’s falling ratings… *raises hand* Guilty. Since I stopped watching this season, apparently that was a net loss of 33% viewership. Sorry about that.
I did dl the Echo app. Mostly cause it’s nice having Eliza saunter across my screen at random intervals. As for the ratings, it doesn’t help that the only tv promo I saw for the premiere was during the god-awful Brothers. Ya know-a whole 45 minutes before Dollhouse was to air! Way to go, FOX.
Yes. That’s what I want in my life. More Echo. Ignoring the fact that she is THE WORST PART OF THAT SHOW. Her and Agent Helo. WTH, Joss? Play to your supporting cast, they’re the only reason anyone watches this thing.
Haha, snap, Lauren! As much as I love Elisa Dushku, I don’t think she is suited to this role, nor Penikett to Ballard. Everyone else is perfectly cast though! I find myself thinking that perhaps Amy Acker would have made an interesting Echo…
I agree with Jessica. I did not even know it was back on. I saw it in the program guide last night when it was almost over. Set Tivo to get the rest of them.
I actually did download the app (*guilty geek-grin*). As to the ratings, both Whedon and Dushku as well as FOX weren’t expecting it to get good ratings on Friday nights. As long as it has what it had last season — large audiences through iTunes, Hulu, and DVR/other forms of next-day viewing, FOX has decided to view “Dollhouse” as a Friday night thing, since nothing on Friday nights really does that well. It also doesn’t hurt that “Dollhouse” DVD sales were actually fairly good, so FOX is seeing “Dollhouse” as something of a sellable franchise investment.
And yes, “Brothers” was absolutely awful, but then, who was expecting different?
I like the show because it’s different. Different from other shows, which Joss Whedon has made and a lot more darker. The show deals with questions, which are up to date and very important. How far should technology go? Are one allowed doing illegal things, if one want a better world (what does “better” mean?)? Do have human beings a soul? The relationship between consument and supplier and their arguments: Yeah, we only do what the crowd wants… okay my english is very bad. But again: The themes are lot more interesting than another soft-love-hate-crime sitcom/comedy/crime serie whatever. And I believe that Joss Whedon will develop a storyline which brings all the characters a lot more together. The show need a chance
I downloaded the app. And then deleted it. Cuz I’m not a dude and I’m not into gun-toting, tight leather-clad chicks. Now, were they to add more of the characters, say, Victor, or Ballard busting my monitor open with a roundhouse? I say, “All in.”
Brothers is a horrible lead-in. Sarah Connor Chronicles might have been a flop, but there’s a good chance a high percentage of its viewers stuck around for Dollhouse? Pair Dollhouse with Fringe, and you’d have something, though it may be too late for that.
Wow, look! Lauren is an idiot! What a shock, to see a mentally challenged person trying to make themselves look clever by dissing a show on the comment page! I sure wish people would stop letting kids post comments online. The show ONLY works because of Dushku and her evolving character, but I guess you’re too stupid to comprehend that. Go back to Twilight loser.
I’ve seen no promos for Dollhouse, luckily I already had my Tivo Season Pass set up otherwise I would have missed out on the new episodes this season!
