Could Jesse Eisenberg, the gawky kid from Adventureland and The Squid and the Whale, be on the verge of breakout star status? I’d say yes, after watching him on last night’s Conan (check out the clip after the jump). The 25-year-old did a great job of plugging his new movie Zombieland, earning big laughs from the crowd with a few of his nervous jokes. And through it all, he reminded me of some other famous people. Here’s the breakdown:
Woody Allen – 60%
The New York accent, the nebbishy stutter, the self-deprecating zingers: all classic Allen.
Michael Cera – 30%
Cera and Eisenberg have been compared for years, and it’s hard to deny their similar nerd vibe.
The Micro Machines Guy – 9%
Ifyoudon’tknowhothisisjustcheckouttheyoutubecliphere. Hear the resemblance?
Hallie Eisenberg – 1%
It’s true: Jesse’s lil sis is former Pepsi spokeskid Hallie Eisenberg (remember her?), whose brief career as a child star gave us schlockfests like Paulie (1998) and Bicentennial Man (1999). They definitely look alike, but let’s hope Jesse learned a few things from his sister’s time in the spotlight. (Rule No. 1: Don’t play second fiddle to a talking bird.)
How about you, PopWatchers: Did Eisenberg remind you of anybody else?

i have loved him ever since THE EMPEROR’S CLUB, and then i loved him in THE VILLAGE and CURSED. hes great, and his hair is definitely working in his favor.
Wow, what a charming kid!
That was a great clip. Thx. When he got to his separation anxiety–so, so Woody Allen. I’d take 1% away from Michael Cera and add Jimmy Fallon for the humor and antsy-can’t-sit-still-ness. From his speech/articulation, he’s definitely 25, but he still looks like a High Schooler. Did you see him standing next to Kate Walsh?
Oh–I saw that first-kiss movie–and it’s a very good movie–Roger Dodger. Stars Campbell Scott. Worth a rent.
I saw this last night and he’s awesome. He gave a really great interview because it was actually really funny, which wasn’t really expected from his nervous behavior.
Am I the only one who thought that he was completely awkward? I found his Conan interview SO difficult to watch last night. I like him on screen, but I was as uncomfortable watching him do press as he was doing it.
Hilarious!
I love this guy! Can’t wait to see the movie.
