Ever had dinner with Neil Patrick Harris? Well, maybe not at the same table but at least in the same vicinity? Even spotting B-listers at D-list restaurants is tremendously exciting — a friend loved seeing Dianne Wiest eating a chicken sandwich at Ranch 1 a few years ago. Now OpenTable is revealing the 10 best celebrity-spotting restaurants, from New York’s ‘21’ Club to Washington, D.C.’s Blue Duck Tavern. My best personal sighting was Elvis Costello in New York’s dearly departed Florent. But I had a friend in L.A. who was too distracted to even feed himself when he saw Chris Martin, Gwyneth Paltrow, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes at a nearby table. What about you, PopWatchers, any good celeb spottings to dine out on? And yes, a gas station serving Cheetos to Britney counts.

i saw julianna marguiles at sullivan street diner in NYC. it’s a small place, and they had closed off one entire side for her (and she only had one table). i saw her when she got up to go the bathroom; she was pregnant at the time.
I sat one table over from Leo DiCaprio last month at Craft Steak in NYC
About four years ago, Chris O’Donnell and his family were seated at the table next to my ex-husband and me as we celebrated an anniversary. This was at a restaurant in Douglas, Michigan (where said family apparently resides).
Chris was quite wee.
One night, I served a guy two Crown Royals then ended up chasing him down the street because I thought he’d ducked out on his tab. Turns out he’d left about $100 on the table. And oh yeah, he was Jakob Dylan. Oops.
That rocks! I love to hear about celebs who are generous tippers. Way better than the ones who stiff servers.
While spending a semester in Barcelona, Spain in 2005, my friends and I sat at a table next to Bam Margera at the Hard Rock Cafe on St. Patrick’s Day. He and his skateboarding entourage were doing a tour of Europe that lasted a few weeks, and we struck up a conversation with them based on the fact that both of our groups came to the Hard Rock based on a craving for greasy American food.
I saw Jane Lynch and Aaron Sorkin – not sitting together – at Shutters Resturant/Hotel in Santa Monica in May and had a hard time not totally geeking out and talking to them.
i saw david hyde pierce and his partner at whole foods in columbus circle last year. that was fun.
A few years ago I was carrying a large box into an office buidling in NYC. I was having trouble opening the door, and I heard a male voice say, “I’ve got that for you”. It was Chuck Norris, holding the door open for me.
Nothing short of AWESOME
A dream come true!!!
I would have punched him in the taint.
I saw Stanley Tucci at Cheateu Marmot shortly after his wife died.
In May, my family came to visit me in DC, as I skipped my grad school graduation in order to break my brother’s Washington Monument virginity. Anyway, we stopped in J.Paul’s, a seafood restaurant in Georgetown, for some beers and appetizers, when it came to our attention that we were enjoying the early evening treats with Steven Speilberg, Kate Capshaw, George Lucas and his girlfriend. They were sitting in a booth about 5 feet away from us enjoying in an early dinner. It was the ultimate A-list celebrity sighting. Apparently they were all in town for the Correspondent’s Dinner, which we watched later that night.
This is the prize winner so far!
why do people skip their grad school graduations? i can never understand that. if you worked hard for an advanced degree, wouldn’t you want to attend the ceremony? cool sighting, btw.
My sister, friend, and I saw Katie Holmes at the Ivy the day before the first pictures of Suri were released.
No dinner stories, but…
Saw Chris Noth going into a movie theatre
John Irving coming out of a movie theatre
Judy Davis at Starbucks
Rene Zellweger walking on Bloor St
Catherine Zeta-Jones shopping in Yorkville
Robin Williams at Holt’s
Wow lots of sightings in Toronto! (I’m also a Canadian but don’t live in Toronto
)
When I was a kid, we saw Stephen King in a Pizza Hut in Bangor. That’s my brush with fame! (I’m from a small town in east coast Canada)
Haha, lucky, this is completely awesome. Especially at a Pizza Hut.
Woody and Soon-Yi Allen at an NYC Sushi place; Alec Baldwin & Kim Basinger at Popover Cafe; Judge Judy & Judge Jerry at a diner; Wynton marsalis at Aquavit; SJP and Matthew Broderick at Cafe Carlyle….in general, I’ve seen everyone everyone….life in NYC
saw robin williams, goldie hawn AND FERGIE (former Duchess of York, not Black Eyed Peas girl) in restaurant on upper east side one night. that was pretty cool.
and i saw Chita Rivera lost in a parking garage.
