'South Park' Kanye West 'gay fish' episode to re-air

Normally, Kanye West’s puppy-stomping on the VMAs last night would be exactly the kind of celebrity misbehavior perfect for parody on South Park. Except South Park already delivered the perfect Kanye-skewering episode five months ago, which is why Comedy Central will re-air it tomorrow for two straight hours, starting at 9 p.m. ET. If you’re unfamiliar with the insta-brills episode (read our original take on it), entitled “Fishsticks,” this clip (with some NSFW language) should get you up to speed:

How good was this episode? Instead of an ALL CAPS rant, it got Kanye to apologize for his out-of-control ego — now that is some good TV. Will you re-watch the episode, PopWatchers? Or do you think this is exactly the kind of attention the rapper/genius/homosexual haddock lives on?

Jim Carrey's 'A Christmas Carol': Not quite as creepy as 'The Polar Express'

I’ve been watching the trailer for Disney’s A Christmas Carol throughout the day, trying to figure out how I feel about Jim Carrey as Scrooge. I find the sound of his voice puts me on edge these days (the stress of not finding him as funny as everyone else seems to?), but I’m thinking that might not be a bad thing when he’s playing an unlikable curmudgeon. Plus, I’m a sucker for when loud comedians go soft, which we know will happen at the end of the film. And at least Carrey looks less like Scrooge than Tom Hanks’ eerie resemblance to the Conductor in The Polar Express, also directed by Robert Zemeckis, so perhaps this movie won’t be so unintentionally creepy.

Am I just forcing myself to be nice, or is this film on your holiday to-do list?

NBC's 'Trauma': High octane, indeed!

Categories: Fall TV, Television

Check out our exclusive peek at the new promo for NBC’s Trauma, “the first high-octane medical drama series to live exclusively in the field where the real action is,” from executive producer Peter Berg (Friday Night Lights). It looks like a trailer for a Michael Bay film, complete with dramatic music and voiceover, multiple explosions, and the strategic use of both slo-mo and the phrase “adrenaline cowboy.”*

“But beyond the spectacle, the tense, go-for-broke acting makes this both hyper and exciting,” EW’s Ken Tucker writes in his 21 New Shows: Worth Your Time? gallery. “Could flame out fast, or become an adrenaline fave.” What’s your early prognosis for the series, which goes up against Dancing With the Stars, Two and a Half Men/The Big Bang Theory, Gossip Girl and Lie to Me starting Sept. 28?

* Or, a Sweeps episode of Grey’s Anatomy.

'Gossip Girl' premieres tonight: Scoop from the producers!

Categories: Gossip Girl, Television

It seems like every Monday this summer I’ve been saying the same thing: “I wish Gossip Girl was on.” Not helping were the countless paparazzi photos of the cast filming on location. It was like a big tease! Well, The CW has finally granted my wish. The bitch-tastic teen soap returns tonight at 9pm (new timeslot alert!) for its third season and the characters are movin’ on to college . “Blair is going to find herself a fish out of water on Dan and Vanessa’s turf,” says co-executive producer Stephanie Savage, alluding to the Upper East Side princess matriculating at hipster-friendly NYU. And Dan will become close with movie star and fellow classmate Olivia Burke (guest star Hilary Duff), the star of a major fantasy film franchise (think Emma Watson). “Dan Humphrey being a hysteric Brooklyn snob has never seen any of these movies,” says Savage. Adds co-executive producer Josh Schwartz, “He’s the only person at NYU who doesn’t know who she is.”

And what’s in store for everyone’s favorite GG dandy, Chuck Bass? Apparently not higher education. “When you’re Chuck Bass, you don’t need to go to college,” says Schwartz. “You learn from the streets of life.” Adds Savage, “Chuck’s journey this year, in addition to his relationship with Blair, will be trying to get out from underneath his father’s shadow. Chuck Takes Manhattan.”

I certainly CANNOT wait for GG tonight. What about you PopWatchers? Have you been craving a GG fix as much as I have?

'CSI: Miami': Was the season 7 finale written by chimps with typewriters?

Categories: Misc.

csi-miami-comcast_lI know, I know…that’s a tough vicious question. And admittedly, I haven’t watched CSI: Miami since Horatio’s infamous “We’re going to Brazil!” line reading. But last night, scanning through my Comcast Monday-night guide to make sure I wasn’t failing to DVR any upcoming network premieres, I ran across this colorful-to-the-point-of-absurd programming description for tonight’s encore performance of the season 7 finale of The Horatio Caine Sunglasses Hour. Tell me this was some kind of practical joke. You know, like that extended period of time when Izzie was having sex with a ghost on Grey’s Anatomy.

'True Blood' poll: Team Eric, Team Bill, or Team Sam?

true-blood-sam-bill-eric_lSPOILER ALERT! If you haven’t watched last night’s True Blood season finale, stop reading now. We’re wondering if the episode tested any loyalties…Eric (Alexander Skarsgard) told the Queen he’d “take care of” Bill personally, presumably never phoned Sam’s cell with any advice on how to kill Maryann or returned to Bon Temps (even though he should have sensed Sookie’s desperation), and royally sucked at Yahtzee — not his finest hour, unless you’re over Bill. Bill (Stephen Moyer) stayed true to his promise to heal Sam after his attempted sacrifice (so Sam could destroy Maryann), which is commendable, but the timing of his proposal to Sookie was a bit suspect: Does he view her as a possession to be kept away from Eric? Sam (Sam Trammell) was willing to die for Sookie and Bon Temps, and even though Sookie’s feelings for him aren’t as passionate, at least there’s no question of how much they are based on his lust-inducing blood. So…

P.S. If you’re going to comment with book spoilers, please begin your post with the word BOOK so other readers can choose to join your discussion or skip it.

Lil' Kim vs. Pink: Battle of the Sparkly Pasties!

lil-kim-pink-mtv_lPart of getting the respect you deserve at the VMAs involves the careful planning of which type and shape of sequined sheath you’ll want to glue to a small section of your bare left boob. So: Who barely wore it better? As my mother used to say to me and my feuding sister: “Girls. It is not a competition.” But let’s vote anyway! Damn, this is a tough one….

Lil’ Kim Pros: Did it first; excellent purple wig; Diana Ross (!!!) followed through on nation’s basest desire and reached out to swat her boob at the podium. Cons: full-on patterned jumpsuit = blatant eff-you to fashion; subject’s recent association with Dancing With the Stars. (Ha!)

Pink Pros: Zesty diamond-patterned pant leg; mind-blowing mid-performance trapeze routine. Cons: Zen-like composure post-mind-blowing circus feats could foster self-loathing in less-fit voters; in other words: everyone.

Kanye West on 'The Jay Leno Show' tonight: Will you watch?

leno-kanye-west_lIt’s certainly a big day for Jay Leno. Not only will he attempt to launch the first-ever, five-nights-a-week talk show at 10 p.m., but he’ll have first crack at Kanye West, the dream killer who interrupted Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech during last night’s best-ever Video Music Awards.  Jerry Seinfeld is scheduled to be Leno’s first guest on the couch, but if the former Tonight Show host is smart, he’ll go mano-a-mano with West before he performs with Rihanna and Beyonce’s husband, Jay-Z, during the hour-long show’s music segment. Better yet, bag the Seinfeld chat and put the musical acts on the spot, Jay! Oh, what a lively roundtable that could be!

Ratings for tonight’s show were already expected to be respectable; the lookee-loo factor is a given, since the svelter Leno will attempt to provide a comedic alternative to the darker (and ratings-challenged) dramas that typically run in the time slot. But now they could potentially blow the roof off Nielsen, especially since public sentiment against West is colossally strong. Viewers may want more from West than an ALL CAPS APOLOGY on his blog.

So what do you think? Does the promise of a West appearance make you want to check out Leno?
