Jessica Alba 'Meets the Fockers': Le sigh

As we reported earlier today, Jessica Alba is set to join the third installment of the Meet the Parents series. What’s that I hear? A collective groan? I couldn’t agree more.

Considering Alba’s career choices as of late (i.e. The Love Guru and Good Luck Chuck), I can’t imagine she’ll be bringing in the laughs. It’s a risky move for a film that has already has high chances of becoming an epic fail, though not in the box office sense. No, it’ll probably fare well in that department. But, judging by the slapstick route the sequel, Meet the Fockers, took, I doubt this three-quel will be as sharp and so-awkward-it’s-funny as the original.

Need a refresher? Here’s a 30-second version of Fockers (the way it should’ve been made, if at all):

So PopWatchers, what do you think of Alba’s casting? And how do you think this sequel of a sequel will fare?

But Jessica Alba was so funny in Fantastic Four.. (whaddya mean that wasn’t a comedy?)

    • Sarah D

      Buahahahahahahahahahahahaaaaaaaaaa! Indeed!

  • ll

I thought she was fine in Good Luck Chuck and Love Guru – the failure of the latter is hardly her fault. I think she can definitely do comedy. I don’t imagine you’ve seen it, but her Jessica Simpson on MAD tv years ago still cracks me up. But, hey, don’t let me stop your train of negativity with actual positive opinions of someone you’d rather bash.

    • Emma

I agree. Good Luck Chuck was not a bad romantic comedy. Alba and Dane Cook had a lot of chemistry.

    • marie

I agree. Your only as funny too as the roles written and the person thats directing and the editing of the movie. I also loved Meet the Fockers too. They always want to blame the actress or actor though.

  • Tom Strong

Archana Ram, if indeed that is your REAL name, are you just jealous of Jessica’s beauty? You sound fat to me.

    • Shamrock

Why do people always say that, because you don’t like something or someone, it’s because you are jealous. Such an unoriginal comment.

      • Nerwen Aldarion

Amen, I’ll never understand that argument. “I hate so and so” “you’re just jealous” The lamest argument in the book

      • Maiv

It’s because he has nothing else to come back with. At least the other people defending her have actual reasons as to why Alba may not be a complete fail for the movie.

    • Katja

I agree with Shamrock and Nerwen; this IS the lamest argument in the book. I thought “Archana Ram” was a beautiful name. Now, “Tom Strong” on the other hand – if indeed that is your real name – are you just bored and needing to vent some pent-up aggression? You sound d-baggy to me.

    oh god…

  • Ceballos

I’m all for actresses showing they have a sense of humor, but why in the world does Jessica Alba keep doing comedies?

Unfortunately, I can’t agree with II. She was not really fine (she wasn’t horrible, but she wasn’t “fine”) in “Love Guru” and “Good Luck Chuck” and neither were those movies.

I think she should just embrace was she is (a sex symbol) and do a movie that takes advantage of those strengths. Say what you will, but I personally know more people that enjoy “Into the Blue” more than her so-called comedies.

Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t believe her strengths necessarily lie in “comedy” or “dramatic acting.” I’m not saying she needs to do soft-core porn, but can we at least get “Dark Angel” Alba back?

  • Shamrock

    Just a horrible, horrible actress.

  • kate

wow II and tom strong. there’s no need for that kind of meanness (yes i know that’s not a word). the fact that jessica alba picked such bad movies is not a reflection on the actress’ abilities or obvious beauty, but rather on her taste. i think that’s the point the writer was making. stop the meanness!

    • whatevs

I don’t think it’s her taste. She can’t get better movies than that because she’s such a bad actress. Unless you want to stick with the opinion that she intentionally signs up for movies that are clearly horrible, she should fire her agent.

  • Nerwen Aldarion

I have no intention of see the Little Fockers but I will defend the sequal Meet the Fockers, it gets better the second time you watch it. I hated it the first time I saw it, some friends rented it who hadn’t seen it and the second time around you catch more of the jokes, (of course little Jack stole the show)

  • KEVIN

I don’t know anyone who didn’t like Meet The Fockers!

    • DW

You need to get out more.

    • thebigE

Hi Kevin! I’m theBigE. Nice to meet you. Hated Meet the Fockers. Forced, cloying, ridiculous.

  • Stephanie T.

Dark Angel was the only normal thing Jessie did. She can’t act, period.

  • Lissa

I usually hear people praise Meet the Fockers, so I’m relieved to hear that I’m not the only one who disliked that movie. It had its moments, but still…the idea of a third is disturbing, and casting Jessica Alba is downright horrifying. I want to like her, I really do, but I have yet to see her in anything that can actually make it so. I agree with Ceballos, if she just embraced her natural gifts, she could probably make some entertaining movies.

  • aa

meet the fockers was a terrible movie so i hardly see how adding alba will make any difference.

  • DW

The only thing Jessica Alba should be cast in is Noxzema commercials.

  • Enrique

How about not shooting down an idea 30 seconds after it comes up? So maybe Alba has alot of lame movies, but Ben Stiller has always been pretty shrewd in how he uses people cast in his movies and I’ll bet he had a hand in this so how about at least giving her a shot here she might surprise us all.

  • olivia

JESSICA ALBA CAN DO COMEDY AND THE FANTASTIC FOUR MOVIES ARE GREAT! AND HER IN MEET THE FOCKERS 2 IS GONA BE GREAT! YOU HATERS ARE JUST JEALOUS!

    • Maiv

      ok Kanye II calm down

    • bea
