News that a dog named Stephen Colbert el dos was winning a cutest dog contest isn’t that surprising: First, the dog is indeed adorable, but more importantly, what a terrific and high-larious name for a pooch. (And just one in a long, proud line of things named after the comedian.)
But is Stephen Colbert the best celebrity to name your dog after? Jennifer Garner has a dog named Martha Stewart; Eva Longoria has one named Oprah; Charlotte from Sex and the City named hers Elizabeth Taylor. In a slightly different vein, Pete Wentz has a dog named Hemingway, and this dog is named Rainer, which isn’t a celeb as far as I can tell, but I really wanted to link to the amazing picture because that dog has a beard.
PopWatchers, surely some of you have a pet named for a celebrity. Let ‘er rip: What’s the best homage pet name out there?

Robert Pattinson…Patty for short.
I have long thought Steve Carell would make a great dog’s name. “Come here, Steve Carell! You’re such a good boy, Steve Carell!”
So reading this article makes me feel less original.
I named my fawn Great Dane “Liza” after Liza Minnelli. Why? Because she’s bigger than life!
p.s. I adore Steve Carell, so this is not meant to be an insult towards him. I just think he’s really funny.
Almost all of my pets are named after celebrities, although probably a little obscure (google the names – they were huge stars when they were alive).
My dog is named Bixie after Bix Beiderbecke; my cat is Hanshaw after Annette Hanshaw; and previous cats have been named Mercer after Johnny Mercer and Boswell after the Boswell Sisters.
I also had a cat named Oola – the green head-tentacle dancer from Return of the Jedi.
Those are celebrities?
I have a cat named Boo Radley
I want to name my future puppy Boo Radley!
My cat’s name is Harper after Harper Lee!
I wanted to name my dog Atticus.
The misunderstood retard next door was named Boo Radley, what a co-winkie!
In 1995 I bought a red Dachshound and named her Hillary after obviously, Hillary Clinton. She passed away a year ago at the age of 14. Over those 14 years the majority of the comments on her name were possitive. Unfortunately my Hillary did not end up being named after the first woman preisdent.
I named my adopted dog after Charlie from “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia!” Not exactly a celebrity, but definitely worth it.
Rainer could be named after the two-time Oscar winning actress Luise Rainer
or close to Rainier Wolfcastle, aka The Simpson’s McBain.
My border collie mix is named Bono after the most amazing rock star ever!
My cat is named Ruth Bader Ginsburg. She was going to be named Burt Reynolds, but then we found out she was not a dude. We’ve already picked out the name for the next cat too: Serena Van Der Woodsen.
So I’m not as strange as I had always assumed I was. One of my cats is named Rehnquist, after William Rehnquist. (Liked his writing style even if I hated what he was saying).
I have a lawyer friend who adopted a cat named Thomas and then named his new cat Souter.
My cat came from the animal shelter with the name Humphrey and I liked it too much to change. I’d like to think he’s named after Humphrey Bogart. But for future pets I have names already picked out: Otis for Otis Redding, Vaughan for Stevie Ray Vaughan and Marty McFly, even though it’s a character’s name it’s just too good.
You should call him Bogie for short.
Ray Bolger. I don’t have a dog, but if i ever got a bulldog, that would be its name.
Yeah, but when it’s time to do the dishes, where’s Ray Bolger?! I’ll tell you where! RAY BOLGER IS LOOKING OUT FOR RAY BOLGER!
I had a dog named Chandler. When he was bad we called him Miss. Chanandler Bong.
Okay this had me rolling on the floor!
Too funny!
I named my car Miss Chanandler Bong!
Love you! and our next dog will be named the same as yours. Hope you don’t mind the copycat, but it’s just too funny to resist
haha the tv guide! too funny.
I have a dog named Kate Austen. LOST
just picked up a shelter puppy this weekend and toyed with naming him Sawyer but we went with Radar instead.
We’ve got a Sawyer also. Our other dog is named Shiloh – not really after Shiloh Jolie-Pitt but technically she’s the only Shiloh we know…so maybe it was subconscious
