Emerging 'Mad Men' character of the Week: Allison the secretary

mad_men_allison_secretaryI don’t want to spoil anything before you watch the episode yourself and head over to Karen Valby’s TV Watch for your in-depth Mad Men analysis needs…but I don’t think it gives anything away to call your attention to my new obsession: Don Draper’s secretary, Allison. Look at the immaculate “Bitch, please” face she threw him after he all-importantly asked her to hold his calls while he met with Connie Hilton. YES. He needs a steno pool minion with some sass! More faces please.

Does Allison’s “Bitch, please” face rival ice queen Betty’s? Whoa.

Let us know your favorite moments from Mad Men and the rest of Sunday night shows in the comments or on Twitter, and they could be used in this Friday’s Sound Bites video.

I think he gave those instructions for the boys’ sake, rather than an instruction, but after his last secretary (and her mad driving skillz), he probably thinks he still needs to spell it all out.
Yes – I enjoyed it. Hope if they don’t bring Joan back, that Allison gets to stick around.

  • Mad Man

She’s a GREAT secretary/character. With minimal screen time, she does a fantastic job with minimal dialogue. She doesn’t seem afraid of Don, in fact, she seems confident and competent.

Love it. Usually not one gives good B*** face than Elizabeth on General Hospital but she is good.

I’m expecting something to happen with this character. It’s FANTASTIC that they’ve kept her professional and not another bed-mate for Draper.

    (That would’ve gotten old, quickly.)

So here’s hoping there’s some hidden character agenda in some way for her down the road.

A few weeks back the face she made when Joan was talking to Sterling’s new wife in the office was priceless!

I agree. Don can’t seem to get a secretary to stick. I’m hoping that she becomes more of an extension of him, like a mole providing him with information. Maybe the lower grunts are going to try and use her to get info on Don, but so far she seems like “Don’s Girl”. Here’s hoping she’s more like Donna Moss from West Wing.

    • Mitchell

That’s pretty funny since this actress was on the West Wing.

Can any one tell me why Don hates Roger? I forget. Is it because he used Don’s line to divorce Mona? Can someone remind me? THanks.

There are many reasons Don doesn’t Roger. 1) Roger is an entitled ‘arse’ who grew of with money. 2) Roger hit on Betty in season 1. 3) Roger went behind Don’s back to Betty to force him to sign the contract. 4) Roger left his wife for a much younger secretary and Don feels morally superior. 5) Roger is an ass and Don doesn’t have patience for him and his kind… and the list goes on.

  • Emily

I noticed her face too and was impressed. Finally a secretary who could stand up to Don. Yay!

MAD MEN gives us yet another breakout star!! That’s just another side effect of Weiner’s great writing and eye for casting. Allison is a cool addition to the coolest cast on TV!

The actress’ name is Alexa Alemanni, and she has actually been on the show since season 1. She was the girl that Ken tackled at the office party and lifted up her skirt to see what color her underwear was. Then the next morning she came creeping out of the office. I noticed that she was also sitting on Ken’s lap when the lawnmower incident happened.

Alison was apparently assigned to Don’s desk this year. The best secretary he’s had (with the possible exception of Joan) because she anticipates his questions such as when she told him he might want to take an umbrella. The “Hold my calls” was more for form than substance, Conrad Hilton within hearing distance, showing how important Don thought he was.

allison….elvis costello vibe…great name for a secretary(actress) who is a strong woman who will live or die with the role.
